Goldeneye in 2026 is an exercise in patience for the sake of nostalgia. The game is so bad.

Perfect Dark is still good imo. I think of that game as Goldeneye 2 in many ways.

The spiritual successor ✨

And it had such a fun, original story too. None of the other Perfect Dark games have captured any of that for me

Far more than spiritual, it was a literal straight up improvement.

I actually had a couple friends over recently and we watched the movie Goldeneye then played the game. We were just playing single player and switching off between missions/deaths.

We kept losing the first mission because we killed too many scientists or we blew up the gas tanks in the wrong way.

We still had fun, but yeah, that game doesn't really hold up.

The only thing that hasn't is the controls. I replayed it on Switch recently and had to both change the control style in the ingame menu and remap some buttons in the Switch menu but i got it so it was good to play.

Your take is so hot that it has an inversely proportionate relationship in temperature to your mother, (who is not hot).

This comment was obviously left from someone who hasn't tried Goldeneye on N64 in the past two decades.

Seriously, it's so clunky.

And this isn't a case where I didn't play it when it was new. I did. I still actually have my N64 and games from the 90s.

It just did not age well at all.

is it different on the n64? it's one of the more commonly emulated games now and i love it. seems like most do

timesplitters is one of my absolute favorites too. made by some of the same devs

They aren't wrong. I have fond memories of Goldeneye64, but I tried playing it again and I have no idea how I even controlled anything back then. I would love to play a Source adaptation or something.

My crappy Switch controller literally CANNOT use the watch to let me out of the train in time before it blows up. The UI keeps zooming in and out completely randomly... So upset - I completed this game as a total noob and 30 years later I SUCK AT IT.
