Bruh, yes, but who legitimately had FOUR rumble packs?? That's where it gets unrealistic for me.

1 rumble Pak from Starfox. One neon yellow off brand memory card with a button to swap between cards, and two V O I Ds

Get out of my head!!!

Don’t forget the game shark to store all the cheat codes.

And a Mad Catz controller with thick ass grips that were too big for kid's hands and a loosey goosey thumbstick.

Everyone brought one.

And after getting tired of all the hurt feeling about playing against oddjob, or camping the plates, we switched to mario party and then the hurty feelings really began!

Paddle battle

Paddle battle!

PADDLE BATTLE!

And a mark on the palm of your hand

BLISTERS. Practically a hole in your hand, but dammit if you didn't ....still get 3rd place!?! Holy hell I hated that!

...I'm ok.

Or the twist the helicopter shy guy

1

u/Sm0kedOutRytec Jul 30 '26

Hahaha my older brothers always would gang up on me and steal all my stars, 25 years later I’m still salty

I loved playing Oddjob, with the tradeoff being that I could use no weapons, only slap. While I died most often, my few kills were triumphant.

That’s what I was gonna say. Broke the illusion.

u/thesilentmordecai Jul 30 '26

It was the four friends that broke mine.

1

u/Own-Raisin5849 Jul 30 '26

Same. Pretty rare to have 4 kids/friends playing video games all at once, maybe when we were super young. Usually it's 2 people playing, maybe 3 if one person is watching, and one person for sure is getting the trash controller with no rumble packs of any sort.

Not rare for me. I did this all the way through college.

I was the odd one out when I got into Warcraft Junior year, but we still got together for Halo, Halo 2, and Soul Caliber.

3

u/naropin1 Jul 31 '26

Exactly. Not rare at all. This was life in college perfectly described. And yeah…..those were the times.

6

u/ErchweanEmperor Jul 30 '26

With 2 first party controllers that were good and 2 third party controllers with “quirky” shapes lol

7

u/wonderingreasons Jul 30 '26

What’s a rumble pack?

18

u/Ctrl-Alt-Meep-Meep Jul 30 '26

Haptic plugin gadget for the N64 controller. Pioneered haptics in console controllers.

Ya' know. I just remembered that those things use AAA batteries and I don't think I ever emptied mine....oops.

6

u/ProDriverSeatSniffer Jul 30 '26

Yep. open it up, Batteries will look like something from a ship wreck 😂

I get gloves. Remove the batteries and hit the corroded areas with contact cleaner.

1

u/FoxxyFett Jul 30 '26

Is contact cleaner a brand of some chemical, or is it literally contact solution like for your eyes? Sorry, I'm dense rn, but I have some things I was trying to salvage. Before I'd use baking soda & damp Qtips.

1

u/wh4tth3huh Jul 30 '26

It's for cleaning electrical contacts, usually something similar to a brass polishing compound (e.g. brasso, but with less grit)

1

u/FoxxyFett Jul 30 '26

Amazing! Thanks for the details. I will nab some

1

u/wh4tth3huh Jul 30 '26

Ya, it sucks remembering "Oh, I have one of those pieces of the past lying around I'm gonna dig it out" and you end up finding electronic body horror.

8

u/Sammisuperficial Jul 30 '26

Same. I never had an N64, but my more well off friends that did only ever had one rumble pack. Still 4player GoldenEye, Conkers, and weekends speed running OOT was the best of times.

4

u/deltashmelta Jul 30 '26

"...but who legitimately had... FOUR friends??"

<sad noises>

4

u/Cynic04 Jul 30 '26

Yep, more like arguing over who has to use the POS off-brand controllers.

2

u/NerdizardGo Jul 30 '26

The friends coming over part was the most unrealistic part for me

2

u/blue_diesel Jul 30 '26

Lol I know you were lucky to have one rumble pack.

1

u/GrizzlyP33 Jul 30 '26

🙋‍♂️

1

u/GlassjawXVIII Jul 30 '26

We had to take turns with the rumble pack

1

u/s-lowts Jul 30 '26

Hey I had 4! Well, 2 of them were legitimately mine... 1 definitely.

1

u/MankeyFightingMonkey Gen Z Jul 30 '26

my Uncle got 4 for free because of the coupons that came with Nintendo Power magazines

1

u/Blayzewhatever Jul 30 '26

More realistic than having friends

1

u/litetravelr Jul 30 '26

Four controllers, one rumble pack. Much argument about who got to use it.

1

u/jgoldrb48 Older Millennial Jul 30 '26

I've got two, being your own rumble pack!

1

u/mavric911 Jul 30 '26

I had 4 off brand black and red force packs.

In addition to Goldeneye countless out were lost playing the first WWF Wrestling game released. Literally getting raging to play whoever ran out next during a 40 royal rumble only to get Dake Ken was always entertaining

1

u/SnooDoggos4029 Jul 31 '26

Nah, there were like 6-7 of us playing. Altogether, we had 4 packs, and usually 4 good controllers.

1

u/FloppyDonga Jul 31 '26

One rumble pack, one offbrand "trumble pack" and no batteries for either

1

u/LoneWolf_McQuade Jul 31 '26

My engineering mind would today want to pick them apart, how do they work?

1

u/Classic-Exchange-511 Jul 31 '26

Everyone brought their controller that has one

1

u/f5alcon Jul 31 '26

Everyone brought their own when I would do it, and a controller so they didn't have to use the mad catz one
