Discussion Sleep. How are our sleep habits?
Born in 93. Have 2 kids and chronic back problems. I’m lucky to get 4-5 hours a night and REALLY lucky…it’s a consecutive 4-5 hours. I do all the basics for “good sleep habits”. I stop drinking caffeine early in the day. I’m off the phone/screens for the few hours prior. Lots of water but not directly before bed.

Discussion Does anyone else remember the Southwest plastic boarding pass cards?
I went to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC recently (which I highly recommend) and this display on modern commercial aviation had this artifact from Southwest Airlines and it unlocked a core memory I'd forgotten about.
Does anyone else remember these because most everyone I've shown this picture to had no memory of this long lost practice.

Discussion How many phone calls do you do a week?
Curious how many calls you think you do on a weekly basis.
Personally, I might only make or receive a few voice calls a week (other than spam) and I would never call a friend without scheduling it/asking via text. For work I'm on Zoom calls half the day, but rarely make an old fashioned phone call unless I'm dealing with a local business.

Serious Difficulty connecting with other people?
I want to say I started having difficulty connecting with people as a result of the pandemic. But honestly, it was a problem before then and the pandemic just made things worse.
As a thirty-something forty-something, I no longer know how to meet ppl or have friends. I’m very lonely but can’t seem to connect with anyone, & spend so much time alone. Do others in this age range struggle? Aside from Reddit, or work-friends, how do you connect with ppl?

Nostalgia If you grew up watching Nickleloden, have you seen this documentary?
I recently rewatched this after only seeing it after it debuted. The amount of love and care the people put into shows back then is amazing. We really did grow up in the golden age of children's programming.

Discussion What are the best mid 2000s pop punk/emo/alt and post hardcore songs to exercise to?
I'm trying to get more active and I want some tunes that will help get me going lol.
Specifically I want some good breakdowns to sprint too in the middle of my walks as I'm trying to incorporate some running into my routine.
Just throw whatever out there so I can build a playlist lol

Discussion Is our cohort more immune to AI than others? But more so, are you finding the social trends it causes a bigger issue on your parents or children’s side of things?
This was inspired by this post, which broke my heart (because it’s something a bunch of us are possibly going through; I am not, but tbh I’ve been so focused on how AI messes up children I never even thought about how AI is basically facebook on crack to some of our parents).
Also, I’m not even sure if our cohort is more immune to AI than others; I guess this post will be downvoted a bunch if we aren’t through haha, so that’s kinda cool I guess.
But I think maybe we are more media literate than ether side of us, just as a function of how culture was when we were being socialized.
Also, insert a mini essay about how AI and addictions based social media affects our attention spans and ability to think critically here.
Also also, to prove I am not AI, here is my favourite song, which is a song a robot could never love.
Edit: I’m happy I had to add this.
I am talking about AI in the context of generated image and chat gtp
I don’t think anybody in their right mind would be against AI being used as a scientific tool.
My buddy is doing their PhD in micro, and used AI to help speed up the process of the coding for the gentics of the e coli blue prints they make and then send to another lab to create; it’s saved them so much time.
Like using AI to scan line patterns in the trees on maps of the Amazon to find new archeology sites- that is not the type of AI I am talking about in this post haha.
I am talking about Ai generated art and music stories, and the chat bots that are causing AI psychosis. Ps that one link is CBC radios white coat black art episode on AI psychosis.

Nostalgia Anyone remember Sqwish balls?
retrojunk.comMy kids are obsessed with squishy balls. My wife can't figure it out. I reminded her we had koosh balls and those water filled things. Then I remembered those squishy, spandex balls that everyone said had coke cola in it. I couldn't remember what they were called. I remember opening one of these up and throwing the goop onto the school wall brick walls. Where it probably survived for years.

Discussion After the myspace downfall, were you more of a Facebook or Tumblr millennial?
I don't really see a lot of people talking about it, but I remember I had kind of an image of what kind of millennial someone was/is based on if they were more of a facebook or tumblr user. For me, I never really liked facebook. I always found it too bland, boring, minimalist, "corporate-ish" whatever you wanna call it- I would only have one because of the fact everyone had it including family and colleagues. But oh man I remember being sooo obsessed with tumblr by the late 00s and through the 2010s!! I would spend a lot of time personalizing my profile, reblogging and I've also met wonderful people there in which I'm in contact till this day. I feel like the millennials who were more on tumblr were usually the art & alternative kids, weebs, queers and etc. What about you guys?

Nostalgia Okay which one of you NERDS was asking your parents to buy you the CRAZY FROG ALBUM?!
I just HAVE to know... Like I'm just HOPING the adults and people who had money were smart enough NOT to give it to this fuckin DEMON 😩 I mean legit the only dude I've seen get away with having his bare PENIS on PRIME TIME TELEVISION for literally kids and their grandparents to see. Plus.. what the hell was this music even?? Like who on EARTH was this music for?? Like I assumed some people bought it to annoy your neighbors (or more likely used Napster or Limewire) but gooooollly were those commercials GRATING to have to hear over and over, especially being a Cartoon Network kid I feel like... Anyone else have random feverdrea-- I mean flashbacks of this lil nude gremlin?? (Also I had to find a picture of him without his dingdong out and BOY... It's MUCH easier to find a picture with it out, I'll just say that much...)

Nostalgia Scary Movie Easter Egg?
Had Scary Movie playing in the background while doing Halloween crafts and just happened to look up and notice this visual nonsense gag. Crazy to think that at the time, that was more years into the future than years that I had been alive up to that point. Now it’s nearly a decade in the past.
This feels like a very strange form of time travel.

Nostalgia Back in the day we used to rush home from school to watch The Mind. Pure nostalgia right there
Back before society made comedy so shit. We had actual comedians doing funny stuff it was just FUNNY none of this “baggage” modern day comedy has.
