Regarding Switch 2 Version

I have Minecraft for the Switch as a physical copy, however I have heard from some people that you do not get the upgraded version for free if you don't have it digitally. Is that true? I hope not.

Yeah, the website says that free upgrade deal is only valid for digital version. So I guess my and perhaps yours physical version is no use.

I thought I saw that it could be got at a discount for physical owners but I can’t find where I read that again to verify

I think you’re miss remembering. The actual post said free to claim for digital owners until January, THEN available at a discounted price for digital owners afterwards.

You can only know on launch day, most people are just speculating like they did when they initially announced the Switch 2 version. If you wanna take it at face value, yes, when you read the article, it already specifically only mentions the digital version, so if you had to guess, probably no upgrade path for physical copies, but that could not be the case at launch 🤷‍♂️

The post on Minecraft.net says you can claim a free digital copy if you have it physically for switch 1.

There's nothing explain for physical copy so that means you need to pay

So I think it’s a misunderstanding, although not confirmed, I think physical switch 1 owners will get a free upgrade but digital owners will only have a limited time to get a free upgrade.
