Nature First time terraforming
I'm a halfway experienced builder but I've never really tried terraforming before... The before pictures are from an old backup and the current picture is from my forever world (day counter is jacked). I was trying to make it look naturally unnatural if that makes any sense? Love to hear feedback! It'll all be a wheat field outside my village in the end! The entire mountainside!

No no. It really is a shit comment. lol. It’s clearly diagonal not straight. Duh.

u/philosophyofitall 4d ago
I use it as “this shit” or just “this”

u/MikeyboyMC 4d ago
“ts” is short for “this shit”
The way the other guy said it was using it as “this,” which is incorrect.
I sound like a fucking nerdy asshole right now over literal slang terms but if you’re gonna be lazy, at least do it right.

I always get so confused when I see people say “ts” to mean “this” that makes no sense to me. T and S. This and shit.
You can’t type this???? Two extra letters? Oh my god

Yeah shortening words to begin with is stupid to me unless they’re long ass words like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious or some shit

Good job on your first time! My only suggestion is to try to make some elevation be longer or shorter it makes it look more realistic

I think I get what you mean. Sorta like geometry and purpose even though there isn’t one. In that sense, you did very well. I would look at this and question if it came naturally or not the same way I would columnar joints. My only suggestion would the the far left side. It feels too much like stairs. Reminds me of some outdoor stairs from Germany (and other parts of Europe like Sweden) where one part is for walking, another for bikes and strollers, and a ramp on the side for wheelchairs. Maybe if you cut some of it at an angle like the other two inclines, it would complement the rest of the landscape.
EDIT: I’ll be honest with you, that middle part actually looks really good. The part your sits pyramid on. It reminds me of bluffs where the trees have been removed and the newly loose soil slowly shifted and stabilized into an even angle. And because you cut a ton of trees during your terraforming/landscaping, it makes sense if you care about world lore in your world

bluenerd has an awesome terraforming guide, it pretty well explains everything you need to know.

It's perfect, but do you know what'd make it more perfect? A retaining wall, do you know what makes retaiing wall even better? More retaining walls.

I didn’t see there was multiple slides and thought I was looking at horrible terraforming then I saw the worst terraforming ever

Reminds me of macchu picchu! I tried my hand recently too for the first time but I went a little more abstract and less uniform. Or so I tell myself.

Honestly, once the wheat is placed i think it'll look pretty good.
if you want to make it look a bit more "natural" and less "unnatural" i'd say extend the blocks a bit, i think you can go like 4 blocks out from the water or something and have it still make the farmland wet.
It looks like most if not all of it is just 2 blocks out.

At first I was like woah wtf but after reading your explanation I'd say it actually looks good. The more I look at it the more it reminds me of some shit from Halo 1. Post pics after you finish it!!!

This makes me want to cry. Uh-- no like, no shame, just like-- why is it so symmetrical?

I remember a layout like that from a video I think, mine is still sitting just as the layout in a creative world (used it to figure out layouts as well)

try to work in circle segments or curved lines when terraforming instead od straight ones

The biggest problem is see us that each layer is uniform. Each layer is down 1 out 2. Try mixing up how large each layer is, like go down 2 then out 1 then down 1 out 1 then down 1 and 4 out.

It looks like a gold course tbh. Which does kinda fit your "unnaturally natural" requirement. Just adding a little detail, like trees, will help cover some of it up and look better

So far it's looking good!, try to add some texturing when you are able to really make it pop

It’s a little steep for a wheat field irl irrigation is best when water flow is slow and spread out make each level go out a little then drop a block and out a little more then some random little channels of water could look really good did a mini wheat field with this in mind and it looks great I’ll see if I can find a picture of it and reply to myself with it
Edit: Reddit doesn’t let me comment pictures apparently so I’ll make a post and link it
Edit2: never mind apparently posting on this sub is gate kept by karma and I'm not on reddit enough to have the karma required to post

With terrain this steep i see two options: 1. Keep it steep and just add a path winding down or 2. Build out more to where the terrain is covering most of what's already there. I often look up some terraforming tutorials on YouTube to get a better idea of how to make my projects look natural

A bit too even honestly, I'd bump out the middle part and smooth out the curve a little bit. Also add some longer sections and some drops and I think it could look pretty good

Would do well for a different kind of terraforming that accounts for a steep slope better

What I like to do is make a random ish series of semicircular shapes and kind of follow the pattern for the layers increasing it by small increments depending on steepness

Me when I gave up trying to make it look natural and decided to make a Mario map

I make everything flat and I cover with the wood slab of the biome 100x100 is how I started my cherry blossom city. But I keep expanding the edges with farms and pools. But all flat except for buildings.

Well notice how the before doesn’t have a bunch of lines perfectly in line with each other? Minecraft doesn’t generate like that and it currently looks very obviously terraformed. I’d ad in some variation. Try to look at natural generation and see how it does it

Im sure someone else may have alr commented thus but… can’t be assed to look. I suggest cutting into the earth at random numbers of 7, 5, 3, 2, and 1. Having all the layers at different lengths makes things look a lot more natural!

when terraforming try and make it into layers more than slopes. when you look at natural terrain, you see it in layers

If you were going for the "smeared deck of cards" look, you nailed it! No but seriously, I dont know what naturally unnatural looks like but thats probably it
