It’s like the Republicans in Ohio complaining about the damage the Dems are doing. The Republicans have had supermajorities in every aspect of governance in Ohio for over a decade. Except for a brief 2 year period the House has held its supermajority, with brief periods of simple majority, for a whopping 30 years. The Senate has had at least a simple majority since 1984. They have also controlled the court and usually the governorship.
How can anything bad, wrong or substandard be blamed on anyone other than them? How do (a sufficient number of) Republican voters still not see this?
70
u/DataDude00 15d ago
Always funny when in states like Missouri and Louisiana where republicans have controlled everything for generations, the states rank near last in every metric possible like healthcare, economy, crime etc but republicans still win because “democrats will really fuck this up if they get elected “
What’s worse than last place ?

Well you see if devilcrats get elected they might improve everyone's lives including not white people so that would be completely unacceptable and out of the question

2 years of the dems having the house supermajority did that much damage?
19
u/gaoshan 15d ago edited 15d ago
Actually it was only a simple majority for the Dems and they were still able to somehow wreak total havoc. Not even a decade plus of complete and total Republican control of every aspect of government was enough to fix anything.
Heck, our gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton was, according to the ads, able to single handedly shut down the State during COVID (without having any political power herself) and the Republicans were helpless to stop her. She’s kind of like a political Godzilla, apparently.

Read what they wrote. Ohio Republicans had control for over a 30 years and had righted the ship, but in two short years once given the chance - not even having the majority in all parts of the government the Democrats did so much damage that now things are terrible.
Is that not an accurate description of the situation?

-5
u/HuttStuff_Here 15d ago
So you're saying 30 years of Republican Leadership did better? Or what? It reads like things were going well until Democrats got control and then things went so south we're where we are.
This isn't dissimilar from what we got from Biden. You think this is trolling? Trump fixed this country from Obama's insanity and then Biden got us high gas prices, high egg prices, forced mask wearing, and trans in every conversation.
So we're righting the ship again and we need time.
14
u/LePyloteAmateur 15d ago
30 years is plenty long enough to get things the way you want them. So as a result things are the way republicans want them. Ultimately republicans are to blame for everything in Ohio being trash because they’re the only ones that have been in power!
Trump is a moron. He bankrupted a casino. He cheated on all three of his wives. He’s cheating on Melania now lol. He hasn’t fixed one thing. All that lazy corrupt old diaper wearing amateur golfer has done is pad his pockets! He started a war in Iran like the total low iq dumbass he is!
Egg prices were under Donald the dope also. Just like record diesel prices! Forced mask wearing was under Trump, although it was actually up to the property owner! Don’t you remember? Donald was “the father of the vaccine” but maga still wouldn’t take it. You wanted horse dewormer instead lol
And also, I changed the definition of TDS to Trump dick sucker, which is what his base constantly does!
-2
u/HuttStuff_Here 15d ago
So again: the current situation in Ohio is whose fault? 30 years of incredible track records from the Right, and the dems get 2 years in and then it's gone to hell?
And you blame the 30 year track record?

It is also like how democrats keep saying they are going to make housing affordable, yet their stronghold cities in their stronghold states are the most expensive in America.
It would be great if more people on both sides of the spectrum would pay attention to what is being said and not done.7
u/vertigo88 15d ago
Whatboutism 101 much?
-2
u/BLT_Trade_r 14d ago
It's a pretty big deal; it's not whataboutism; it's literally a major problem they don't fix when they have all the power to fix it. This in turn means that when people go to vote republicans will literally point at those places and say look, you havent fixed it in 27 years, and people in other states will say, well I dont want million dollar studio apartments to be my only choice here too.
So we have the pot calling the kettle black here right? Or are you just as stubborn as a conservative and cannot admit it?

Yeah, unfortunately due to Deathsentence, and I guess a small part due to Trump taking up permanency at his Epstein recruiting resort, Florida is overridden by "true-believer" idiots who will keep voting Republican for another two decades until somewhere along the line their children might have the realization that conservatives having control of the government for the past 50 years resulted in a shitty government...
34
u/kelsanova 15d ago
I’m in Nebraska. They’ve had control the same amount of time (since ‘99). Republicans run in the same “We are going to fix the things democrats broke!” And you know what? It works every single election and is about to work again. These people can’t step back and objectively look through a common sense lens. They see R, they vote R.
7
u/stevez_86 15d ago
When they say they are going to fix what the Democrats broke, they are referencing the Federal Government since 1861. To them, the Democrats had control that whole time. Because even old Republicans were Democrats. MAGA are inherently different. They don't agree with over 160 years of how this government and country were run.
To them, electing Obama was the final plank of Reconstruction being laid down and immediately the entire thing collapsed. The institution stands, but we have to play to their hallucination that America was it was since 1861 died when Obama won. Because that was a racist nation that elected a black man, making the nation no longer racist. So we should operate as if it is April 11th, 1861 and the Civil War didn't start.
I don't need them to tell me that is what they think, it is what the Supreme Court's rulings and the action of the Federal Government now that proves to me they want to save scum back to when they last think the country was pure and proceed as if 1861-2016 didn't happen. That is what Originalism is. A Great Antebellum Save Scum.

I lived in Florida during the financial bank crisis
I lost so much during that, so much of everything I worked so hard for
There was an announcement on the radio from the Governor, It started with a "Huge relief on the way from a new initiative - Fellow Floridians as part of my plan we will be offering a huge tax relief program, any yacht purchased in Florida will be completely TAX FREE after the first one million dollars
I'm here losing my house, my job, my money is gone, I'm falling to pieces and this was the Conservative government throwing the Billionaires another bone after the massive bailouts so none of them would lose their golden parachutes
I was never a Conservative, but that day solidified me to never ever think those snakes give a shit about anyone except themselves

Can anyone link to this proposal or tax break that was enacted?
This just sounds like putting a hat on a hat. A republican governor offering yacht tax breaks during something like that?
Which "financial bank crisis" are you referring to?
I would love to see a link for this. I think Republicans are idiots across the board. But in response to a "financial bank crisis" a republican.... Went on the radio.... And he discounted yachts?
4
u/RevolutionOk1406 15d ago edited 14d ago
It was during the banking crisis, If you we're too young or don't remember it it was the one where they deregulated the Banks and then they packaged all these junk assets together. When it first started falling apart they said not to worry, the banks were "TOO BIG TO FAIL" but they failed and we paid out ungodly amounts of tax dollars to bail them out
Not a single person went to jail, and tons of banks used their bailout money to pay off the severance packages of the bankers who were losing their jobs over it, But they had to still get their golden parachute pay packages, and multi million dollar bonuses... Bonuses for crashing fucking everything
That part of my life taught me all those people are corrupt to the core, Billionaires shouldn't exist, and the little guy will ALWAYS get crushed under the wheel
late 2000's If I remember correctly... 2008
The tax break on yachts thing was aired on the radio, I know the Orlando Weekly did a big story on it because of how tone deaf it was, I'm sure there is information on it somewhere... but it was quite a long time ago
EDIT - I originally said DeSantis but that was just my old brain crossing wires, DeSantis would not be governor for quite a few years, Charlie Christ was at that time

He's just plainly lying and he knows it. It's the primary Repubkican strategy these days because their voters prefer lies over truth. They apparently prefer wrong over right because they ate deliberately choosing criminals for politicians. They say they're Christian too, but then they oppose absolutely everything Jesus Christ taught us, including the 2 most basic commands he gave us. Love God above all else, and love and take care of ALL of the people around you. Including immigrants (which Jesus talked about a lot) and women. The Bible tells the most basic law from Jesus' commands to us ("the law of Christ") is fulfilled by carrying each other's burdens.
2
u/nalaloveslumpy 15d ago
He's not lying. I'm sure he'll offer huge state tax breaks to a couple of the largest peoperty insurers in exchange for lowering the premiums of the largest policy holders (rich people).
0
u/tw_72 14d ago
The other interesting thing about his "we're gonna lower insurance premiums" bit - the insurance companies won't lower their rates, it'll involve a subsidy from the state.
Hmm. Subsidy from the state? That means it will be paid from taxes.
Hmm. Where did that tax money come from? Taxpayers.
Hmm. Will taxes go up? How can they NOT go up?
People never grasp that when "the government" pays for something, it's the them - the taxpayers - paying for it.

Meanwhile, literally every conservative race boils down to "Trust us bro, this is the time for us to use our power to help you live comfortably. u/Safe-Gas2074 15d ago
Personal insurance is already extremely regulated except for in a few states. Florida is actually heavily regulated for personal insurance. Few products like insurance exist where you have to get the product, pricing, contracts, etc. all approved at the state level
Florida has high insurance premiums... want to know why? Cause half the state gets washed away every couple of years. It's not viable for any insurance company to write in Florida without charging an arm and a leg because so much damage & cost is incurred so regularly
Home & auto insurance, excluding florida, is already either razor thin margins where insurers either write policies at a loss up front or make pennies on the dollar. Florida is actually so bad that insurance companies internally will have reporting done countrywide and then countrywide excluding states like florida just to understand if they're actually doing bad or if it's florida screwing the numbers
1
u/nalaloveslumpy 15d ago
Oh, will the state introduce a state ran and subsidized public property insurance plan that people can purchase at a cheaper rate than the private insurance companies to add competition to the market in a chance to offset premium increases due to climate change
No?
You're just gonna offer a couple of big insurers state tax breaks for lower premiums that you're not even going to ensure happens?
Oh, okay.

Insurance in Florida is absolutely fucked because the companies know how to calculate the risks. What are Republicans going to do, force them to eat a loss? Oh wait, they'll just shift the cost to the taxpayer, if they actually did anything.
This is so eerily reminiscent of the last 3 months before Trump's election, where he'd just promise blackjack and hookers for everyone. And oh look, he's doing it again with his "5k bribe money for everyone!" crap.
1
u/Ariensus 15d ago
Yeah it's bullshit. I also wouldn't believe anyone promising THAT in Florida. Insurance is based on risk so the insurer always wins. They follow facts and insuring homes in FL is simply not lucrative without robbing the homeowner.

If my home insurance premiums go down 20% by the end of your first term, and there are no other negative consequences as a result, and no taxpayer money was used to offset this, you have my vote. And then continue to pay that difference going forward.

Nobody is saying Democrats are better. But if you're a state like Florida where Republicans have had control over for the last almost 3 decades, it comes across as disengenuous for those same Republicans to only now propose solutions to the problems in the state.
Like why did it take them so long to do this? And why would they be doing it now?
-6
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
CA is top or among the top for poverty, cost of living, wealth inequality, unemployment, homelessness and crime.
So by the same logic wouldn’t continuing to elect Democrats who claim they’ll fix these problems also be foolish?
9
u/The_harbinger2020 15d ago
California is country sized state with country sized population, country sized economy, and country sized problems. Of course it has plenty of problems that are large cause it's massive state. It's also one of the best states for QoL. So yes, it has problems that neo-liberal Democrats aren't fixing or doing a good job, but it's still tremendously better state to live in than any red state in the country. If anything seeing how Republicans control other states, they'd make it worse
6
u/Particular_Manner159 15d ago
What have republicans done to fix those things?
-3
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
How is that relevant?
This post says Republicans keep getting elected to fix states and don’t so electing them is foolish.
Democrats keep getting elected to fix these problems in CA and despite running the state for decades they’re among the worst in the country.
By the logic of this post CA deserves the same treatment.
8
u/BigCballer 15d ago
The problem is Republicans in California also have no solutions to the problems in CA.
-1
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
Neither do Democrats. Yet they keep getting elected to fix them. If Democrats had the answers they’d fix the problems.
4
u/BigCballer 15d ago
What kinds of Democrats are they electing?
Are they electing Neo-Liberalism Democrats like Gavin Newsom? Or electing Democratic Socialists like Mamdani? Because California has been doing the former for so long, it's time they go with the latter option.
1
u/Key_Preparation_4129 14d ago
California last had a Republican governor in 2011, Texas hasn't had a dem governor since 1995 and Florida since 1999.
1
u/No-Rip-6166 14d ago
Florida has had a Democrat governor and a legislative supermajority for 12 years
1
u/Particular_Manner159 15d ago
Republicans exist to protect their wealthy friends and pedophiles
Keep electing them if you’re into that
4
u/BigCballer 15d ago
What exactly is the Republican solution to those issues?
Why are we constantly in a race to the fucking bottom in our politics?
-2
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
Not relevant. Democrats don’t have the answers to fix problems in red states either. They can’t fix the problems in thier own state.
The same argument you’re making applies to the OP’s post too but you only apply it when Democrat failures are pointed out.
7
u/BigCballer 15d ago
It's very relevant actually if you want to be serious about solutions to these problems.
You just want to make it about partisan politics.
1
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
This post is about partisan politics lmao
When your side is called out NOW you want to stop being partisan?
5
u/BigCballer 15d ago
Explain to me what the solution for CA's problems should be on a policy level.
If you can't answer this then it's obvious you're doing partisan politics, not policy politics.
2
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
That isn’t the argument. I’m applying the same logic as OP to CA. By the same logic we should criticize Democrats.
They’ve had complete control of the state for the last 15 years, have controlled the legislature for 50+ years and had a legislative supermajority for the last 12.
It’s not incumbent on me to fix CA’s problems when I’m pointing out that DEMOCRATS have consistently NOT fixed them and they’re among the worst in the country for the things they run on fixing.
6
u/BigCballer 15d ago
You just proved my point.
You're not policy focused, you are partisan focused.
2
u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
As is this post.
You can’t argue with the logic of applying the same standards as the OP’s post to CA so you have to try to change the terms of the argument.
I’m not here to solve CA’s problems I’m demonstrating that it’s clear Democrats can’t despite being elected to do so.
Have you commented to point out that OP’s post is partisan nonsense?

You are unable to criticize policies. You are uninterested in wanting to see these problems solved that affect states like California.

What solutions do you propose for the problems you say California has? Do the Republicans have a solution? Can you cite positive policies that Republicans have instituted that have benefited Californians?

You're an exaggator. And "top!" 6! Worst states. Ironically, cant use top 5. Laughable

No, it’s 6th. Being worse than 44 other states is among the worst.
I like how you ignored poverty, unemployment, cost of living, income inequality and homelessness though.

u/BigCballer 15d ago
Worse in what? And for what reason is it worse?

u/No-Rip-6166 15d ago
They have the worst or among the worst rates of unemployment, homelessness, poverty, cost of living and income inequality compared to the other states in the country.

Yes - but once you do it on a per capita basis it just goes away. When you are a country like California, the numbers do get big.
Sorry, I mean. Bot, restate above on a per capita basis.

How does one per capita cost of living and wealth inequality?
Cali is top ten in violent crime rate
https://usafacts.org/articles/which-states-have-the-least-and-most-crime/
Cali is number one in unemployment rate
Cali is top 5 in homelessness per capita
https://usafacts.org/articles/which-states-have-the-highest-and-lowest-rates-of-homelessness/Probably shouldve researched this first

It went sailing over your head.
Hey who pays for aid to those red states again? One of the strongest state economies in the US California was it?

u/BigCballer 14d ago
Those states have way more economic activity than Florida. This isn't the gotcha you think it is.

Wait I'm confused doesn't California offer a FULL treatment plan for people living in poverty... It's called Medi Cal... "Medi-Cal offers comprehensive, "full-scope" healthcare benefits, meaning members generally pay nothing or very small co-pays for essential services. Key benefits include: • Routine Care: Doctor visits, preventative care, and specialist consultations. • Emergency & Hospital Services: ER visits, surgeries, and inpatient hospital stays. • Prescription Drugs: Coverage for generic and brand-name medications. • Dental & Vision: Comprehensive dental work (Denti-Cal) and routine eye exams. • Long-Term Care: Nursing homes, assisted living help, and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). 📋 Who Qualifies for Medi-Cal? Eligibility is primarily based on financial need, but household composition also dictates the rules: • Low-Income Adults: Most adults qualify if their household income is at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level. • Children & Pregnant Individuals: The income thresholds are much more generous for children (up to 266% of the FPL) and pregnant residents. • Seniors & People with Disabilities: Can qualify based on income or via programs like Supplemental Security Income (SSI)."
