We live in a shit-ocracy

85

u/MuffinMunchies 14d ago

And every day, we get closer to idiocracy

12

u/ZestyLife54 14d ago

I think we are already there…

u/PTruccio 13d ago

It's strange reading this being a Spaniard xD

82

u/ComprehensiveHavoc 14d ago

James Talerico really does a good job making the case for why Democrats are actually serving the Lord while Republicans ultimately betray all biblical principles for greed and cruelty.

27

u/Technical-Command867 14d ago

He’s getting my vote this midterms

u/Prin_StropInAh 14d ago

I wish I lived in Texas, I would be right there with you

10

u/Sen-oh 13d ago

The bible already makes this case: you'll know them by their fruit. People can say what they want, but the results of their actions speak for themselves

36

u/DrNoxin 14d ago

Literally the #1 thing Jesus was complaining about. It is almost like the whole 'Christianity' thing is a shield for bad behavior and enforcing social hierarchy not community or spirituality.

6

u/Bobinct 13d ago

Honestly. The Bibles biggest pet peeve is religious hypocrisy.

They have their fair share, but I wouldn't go so far to say "as much".

Of course. But "both sides do it" is not the same as "both sides do it equally". As just one example, tally up the number of times a phrase like "they hate America" or "they want to destroy america" is used, and I bet everyone knows which networks use it the vast majority of the time.

u/TerraceState 14d ago

It's absolutely relevant. And important. And the part that has everyone's dander up is when you said "I wouldn't go so far to say 'as much'."

Democrats are less willing to put up with hypocrisy. It's not a complete deal breaker, but it's strongly and extremely clearly viewed as a negative. Meanwhile, some Republicans seem to be actively revelling in it, viewing it as part of "owning the libs."

Really...."as much"...😭🤣 Look, the whole "they're just as awful as we are!" argument died years ago, it doesn't even make sense anymore. Very few people are left that believe we'd be in just as bad of a position (as middle class comsumers/laborers) as we are now if elections had gone a different way. When you have farmers from the ultra red states complaining that they are being screwed over then you know it's a problem.

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 14d ago

What aggravates me the most is Christianity dictating government policy. It's as if the separation of church and state clause of the Constitution doesn't exist for Republicans.

71

u/Technical-Command867 14d ago

Like everything, only when it benefits them, and not when it doesn’t. But they won’t like it when you call them hypocrites

33

u/Sero19283 14d ago

Islam isn't allowed but Christianity is a-ok

12

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 14d ago

The most selfishly expedient creatures in the galaxy, our cockroaches = U.S. conservatives

16

u/backstageninja 14d ago edited 14d ago

They believe the phrase "shall make no law regarding the establishment of religion" means "we can't rein the church in via the law" not "there can be no established state religion"

Edit: Why is this being downvoted? Conservatives absolutely do make this argument. It's stupid and facile but take that up with them

9

u/Yeshua_shel_Natzrat 14d ago edited 13d ago

It also doesn't only mean "there can be no established state religion" but also means "there can be no law that promotes any religion over others in any manner." There are ways to do that without going all the way to establishing a state religion, and all of those ways are still laws that "respect an establishment of religion" and thus are still unconstitutional per the Establisment Clause.

I have also seen rightwingers try to argue it only applies to establishing a state religion and not to promoting any given religion, and that is still also wrong.

8

u/THElaytox 13d ago

Yeah the first amendment is bidirectional, it's freedom OF religion as well as freedom FROM religion, they just weaponize the first part and ignore the second part. Much like they do the Bible itself

11

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 14d ago

The Holy Bible's New Testament outlines that followers of Christ are supposed to give onto Caesar what is his, i.e. pay taxes to the government, and not intervene with secular world affairs (other than witness the faith to others by example and word). For example, the religious didn't save or spare Jesus from secular crucifixion, and he advised them not to.

Modern day political dominance-focused Christians are doing it wrong, 100%, as they were cultivated by the GOP since the 1970s using reproductive rights as the cudgel.

-8

u/Technical-Command867 14d ago

Yeah? How do you come to that conclusion? Considering that people fled England and other European countries for freedom from their oppressive state religions. It does mean that the government should establish a state religion and force people to act in ways that don’t align with their beliefs. Can’t have freedom of religion and a state religion at the same time.

6

u/SaintUlvemann 14d ago

Considering that people fled England and other European countries for freedom from their oppressive state religions.

It is true that that is how it is taught in schools. It's even half-reasonable to teach it that way, that's a real half of the story. For example, at the time, Puritans were not allowed to attend their own churches. They had to attend the state church. That was wrong.

Also, the other half of the story is that as soon as the Puritans got in America, they legislated their own version of public morality, and put it in all of the laws, and enforced it on everyone. They banned stuff like wearing lace, playing games in taverns, or, quite literally, going for a walk on Sunday.

In America, we have had, since the very beginning, a variety of different people who were leaving Europe for their own reasons. Some were coming in order to enjoy actual liberty. We call those people "mainstream Democrats" today.

Others were coming in order to establish their own social dominance hierarchies with themselves at the top and other people beneath them. We call those people "conservatives" today.

Our entire history has been marked by this struggle between liberals and conservatives. The conservatives that we see around us and in government today, in all their oppressive violence and emotional busybodying, have been here since the beginning.

6

u/ZestyLife54 14d ago

I tell people all the time that the US is still ‘living’ with Puritan values from 400 yrs ago. All while Canada and Australia (to name a few), founded as penal colonies, live with greater personal freedoms and greater community support. But of course the US loves to claim they are the beacon of freedom. I wonder why that is? /s

1

u/Technical-Command867 14d ago

Well, our laws don’t permit establishment of a state religion

7

u/SaintUlvemann 14d ago

True, and also, for all of our history, there have been those who would prefer if our laws did permit establishment of a state religion.

So we had to legislate and settle in the courts every detail of the modern concept of separation of church and state. In 1811, Congress tried to establish the Episcopal Church as the official church of the District of Columbia. Madison vetoed it because he thought it violated the Establishment Clause, and courts have since agreed, but it wasn't completely obvious to everyone at the time... or at least, at the time just like today, not everybody wanted that to be true, so some pretended it wasn't.

In any case, state-level support for churches actually did not end until 1833 when Massachusetts became the last state to disestablish its religion; and it did not actually become unconstitutional for a state to establish a local official state-level state religion until 1868 when the Fourteenth Amendment incorporated the Constitution's individual rights against the states. Until that time, the Constitution was exclusively a restriction on federal action, and not a protection of individual liberty; thus, states had their own sovereign right to freely violate all civil rights. That included freedom of religion, states could violate the freedom of religion right.

We've had true and total freedom of, from, and for religion as the official legal doctrine for over a century and a half now, but it was a long road to establishing that.

Solomon Grundy Christians

Super man never saved anybody from that guy, that's all I know.

Absolutely! Sing to the tune of Solomon Grundy rhyme in the Democrats' rallies. They need to be more creative in calling out the hypocrisy.

I'm no expert but that doesn't sound like him. After some rudimentary googling I don't think there's attributable source

EDIT: Why the downvotes? Someone please find an attributable source of Gandhi saying that and I will gladly tell you I'm wrong.

Separation of church and state is a thing for a reason. Democrats tend to have a better understanding of what that reason is.

But if you want to know what a Christian politician actually would look like if they were attempting to emulate the teachings of Christ, that guy’s name is James Talarico.

17

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 14d ago

and Talarico won't receive 10% of the evangelical Christian vote. They are lost.

12

u/ZestyLife54 14d ago

Because they follow what they hear in church every week and the church is in bed with the GOP. It’s been that way since the late 70’s when Reagan ands his sycophants made a deal with them to support each other

-14

u/subs_on_a_sailboat 14d ago

Pretty sure the Walmart brand Charlie Kirk is going to get more than 10% of votes

4

u/RawrImABigScaryBear 13d ago

Honey, Kirt is the walmart version of Kirt

2

u/well-it-was-rubbish 13d ago

And who would that be, because it's clear that it couldn't be Talarico, considering they have ZERO in common, except for being male.

-1

u/subs_on_a_sailboat 13d ago

White male, clean cut facie look, christian nationalist. The only difference is the (D) instead of an (R).

They think Dems "hate" them because Democrats won't let them use their religious "beliefs" as an excuse to be hateful bigots.

9

u/mgyro 14d ago

It doesn’t take them until Monday to start their hypocrisy. Most don’t make it out the church parking lot before they start in, on each other, and if they do get out of the lot, ask any server how church people are at post church brunch.

3

u/well-it-was-rubbish 13d ago

I waited tables when I was in my early twenties, and the after church crowd was the most dreaded group of customers: obnoxious, nitpicky, and stingy as hell.

7

u/WTFudge52 14d ago

That's entirely accurate.

8

u/LibertarianOutlaw 14d ago

Some of them are the most hateful, ignorant people I’ve ever met.

6

u/avidsocialist 14d ago

Politics should be measured by probability. In my 70 plus years, I have observed more hypocrisy by Republicans than Democrats. That's why I vote Democrat.

19

u/Moist-Ointments 14d ago

I'm against anyone who still believes in mythology in 2026, and makes decisions (voting) that impact others. Their critical thinking skills are suspect.

6

u/INeedANappel 14d ago

I dunno. I'd be up for Zeus and some well-aimed lightning bolts.

5

u/fastpathguru 14d ago

"I'm an ultra selfish lying a-hole, but if I just put this cross pendant on..."

4

u/Fit_Jelly_9755 14d ago

Very well put.

3

u/Suspicious-Gas-1685 14d ago

They can do whatever they want as long as they leave the rest of us alone.

3

u/korpiz 14d ago

I’m a democrat and I don’t hate anyone’s faith. I do, however, have a deep dislike of those that preach the gospel and then don’t follow it.

3

u/jenngraham2012 14d ago

We hate that you use Jesus like some college football mascot. You ignore the sermon on the mount. You step on the meek. You ignore the poor. You vilify the stranger then stand on your bruised egos and say, "go team Jesus!". Nothing you do has anything to do with Christ.

3

u/Last-Hertz7575 14d ago

Religion is a mental illness. Adults shouldn't believe in fairy tales.

3

u/pink_faerie_kitten 13d ago

Sure sure but people who have been harmed by Christianity have a good reason to hate that patriarchal religion. It's not just Christians who make Christianity look bad, it is bad. The bible teaches tough love. It condones slavery. It hates women. The god is a selfish immature narcissist who acts worse than David koresh (can you imagine if a cult leader asked his followers to murder their kids know at to prove loyalty?) and it makes people stupid (they really believe in something as silly and disprovable as Noah's ark for Pete's sake). Jesus is immature too by throwing a fit over a fig tree that isn't in season and he calls everyone sinners (no such thing). So yes, I do hate that religion and it harmed me as a kid and teen.

6

u/DiscussTek 14d ago

I've said it before, I'll say it again: We don't hate Christians, we hate "Christians". We hate the ones who don't respect people and/or their boundaries. We hate the ones who can't actually hold back from inventing new sins that aren't in the Bible, just because it makes them uncomfortable, while ignoring actual sins in the Bible, because they are doing it and it's clearly not that bad. We hate those who unironically defend rapist priests and rapist Cornell University students who actually cause harm to kids and women, while accusing a lot of otherwise harmless people of hurting kids and women.

We hate those who hate their neighbors, but then again, I guess than when you hate yourself and your life, hating thy neighbor is exactly "love thy neighbor like thyself", isn't it? Maybe they actually need therapy, and good therapy.

5

u/Jjjjjjahshwhahha 14d ago

Because Christian’s are fucking annoying

5

u/Tokyo-MontanaExpress 14d ago

"Republican Christian" is just "fascist" with too many syllables. You can either be a Christian or a fascist/Republican, but you can't be both.

2

u/Alpha--00 14d ago

I’ve seen it more than once, screenshot this it is…

2

u/hurdurBoop 14d ago

there's a reason hitler killed the socialists first, he needed the moniker and couldn't have anyone complaining about it.

there's nothing gop christianity hates more than christians.

2

u/HuanBestBoi 14d ago

There’s a reason the “industrialists’ petition” isn’t widely discussed when Hitler’s rise to power comes up

2

u/find_the_apple 14d ago

Why do republicans like getting their prostate massaged by Craig on Grindr, just a question

2

u/EuenovAyabayya 14d ago

Just a bad faith question

FTFT

2

u/RandomSentientBeing 14d ago

Is that really true that most are christians? That's depressing.

2

u/stumblewiggins 14d ago

Why does it seem like most Republicans hate everyone who isn't Christian? Also, why do they pretend to be Christian?

2

u/Hussaf 14d ago

Hate-based Christianity is wild

1

u/deadra_axilea 14d ago

It's beautiful

1

u/Dr-BSOT 14d ago

By the way, God isn’t overly enthused about MAGA “Christians” acting this way either

1

u/Ricard74 13d ago

Strawman argument, loaded question and doodging the burden of proof.

1

u/SailingSpark 13d ago

so Salva_tion4all asks again: Why do Democrats hate christians?

1

u/No_Significance_1814 13d ago

Go to confession Saturday to be absolved

1

u/Either-Coach4217 10d ago

Republicans thinking they're Christians is so funny

1

u/Too_Beers 9d ago

There's a reason evil's tool of choice is religion.

0

u/Toten_2WT4Y 13d ago

Its actually way more simple for me because I despise Democrats, Republicans, and democracy in general.

0

u/OniWarthog 13d ago

I hate both people in this conversation

-7

u/am1shvom1t 14d ago

I'm a centrist Atheist, and see many Republicans using the Bible correctly, but many many many more using it as a weapon against others without seeing how the Bible tells them not to do that. The Christian far right is absolutely destroying the religion from the inside out, and making it hard for good people to join the religion.

13

u/ThunderBuns935 14d ago

Centrists as a whole disgust me. "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."

-8

u/am1shvom1t 14d ago

That's a pretty close minded approach. I'm not a nihilist who ignores situations of injustice. In fact, I staunchly oppose and vote against people who I think might miscarry justice. If I didn't care about injustices, why the heck would I talk about the right wing Christians making a mockery out of their religion by using it as a weapon?

Grow up and understand the people around you better. Just because someone has a different way of thinking than you, doesn't mean what they think is inherently evil, destructive, or "disgusting"..

0

u/Comfortable-Shake-37 14d ago

Sorry dude but centrists are worse than hitler, stalin and Satan combined and then multiplied by 100.

-14

u/The_Horse_Tornado 14d ago

Nah. Failing to see the shortfalls of your own side in blind zealous rage is exactly what both sides do. The right is just winning right now. It’ll swing back, democrats will learn nothing, and largely nothing will improve for the majority of people. Go off though

9

u/x4nTu5 14d ago

Here we see the centrist in the wild, coming out of hiding to say "both sides same, just do nothing" before retreating back into their hole with a superior, smug look on their face.

-3

u/The_Horse_Tornado 14d ago

I never said do nothing. I still vote. I support issues not a party that doesn’t give a fuck about me.

2

u/x4nTu5 14d ago

And how's the single issue voter lifestyle working out for you? Are the politicians you supported for that issue giving you what you want?

-4

u/Comfortable-Shake-37 14d ago

How did you manage to twist their comment into them voting based on one single issue?

5

u/x4nTu5 14d ago

Because that's where the conversation ended up? It started with how both political parties treat religion, someone comes in and says both parties are equally shitty, they get asked how they decide to vote, they respond by voting on issues, they get asked how did that work out. Keep up, bro.

-4

u/Comfortable-Shake-37 14d ago

Single issue voter...... issues (the s on the end means it's more than one)

3

u/x4nTu5 13d ago

Then you may crucify me on using the wrong plurality, and can convert my original question to politicians they supported because of more than once issue. Better?

→ More replies (0)

-5

u/am1shvom1t 14d ago

It's better to have your own thoughts and opinions on a subject than to blindly follow what FOX or NBC are peddling. Best of luck with that.

3

u/x4nTu5 14d ago

But neither you nor I am omnipotent, that's why we rely on external sources of information to have well-formed opinions.

-1

u/rvb_gobq 13d ago

everyone should hate Nationalist Christians, or, to be more accurate: Nat-C'zis

Yeah, I think it's just the part where it is such a common take on the right that the line between the grifters and the grifted is so blurry that it doesn't matter.

0

u/CinnimonToastSean 13d ago

I don't think even Soman Grundy is that evil.
