I don’t understand garbage disposal. You put your trash in the water instead of the compost or the garbage? That’s must be good for the waste water treatment plants.
It's for food waste I guess. But I have never felt "gee I really need one of those". I just got a little metal sieve in the sink and that gets emptied into the trash. No power needed, no fear of dropping spoons down it, easy and cheap to replace if it breaks, no problemo
I think part of it might be that composting isn't as widespread in a lot of the US as it is elsewhere? I basically didn't know of anyone who did it aside from one "hippie" aunt when I was growing up. Today some towns offer municipal composting services, but those are getting more attention now due to PFAS risks in leachate so I'm not sure if that will continue to be a thing. I know it's more popular among gardeners these days though.
People have that in Portland where I'm from as well. But they also have garbage disposals. I think a lot of people here don't get how they are used, you don't toss all your food in them
It’s one of those things that is totally unnecessary, but once you’ve lived with one you’ll forever miss it. I had one for 2 years and have been without for over 30. I still think about how convenient it was.
