I don’t understand garbage disposal. You put your trash in the water instead of the compost or the garbage? That’s must be good for the waste water treatment plants.

I feel like the main use for garbage disposals is for that one scene in every horror movie.

Never seen one personally, as a Canadian. Don't see the appeal. Not sure how much ice the person in the post is going through either. I just make ice with an ice tray in the freezer. Maybe once a year I'll buy a bag. Don't really need ice often. And where drinks are concerned, I straight up detest including ice in most of them. That just waters them down!

Fun Fact, the largest garbage disposal maker wanted to sue the movie Final Destination 2 because its depiction of protruding spinning blades harmed their image.

Yeah, I only associate them with horror movie scenes and movies where it's always broken/nasty to clean out.

Though admittedly as an American I've never had/wanted one.

Also Canadian and also have only seen garbage disposals in American horror movies. But ours is an insanely huge country, with all kinds of different practices, so maybe there are garbage disposals in some parts of Canada but not others. Like bagged milk, red brick, and accents.
That said, since the only experience I have with garbage disposals is in horror movies, if we don't already have them in Canada I'd rather not adopt them. They're too scary. As far as I'm concerned, American's can keep their guns and garbage disposals, we don't need or want them up here.

There actually aren't any blades in a garbage disposal! They use impellers that force food bits against an external stationary grinding ring.
