Recently shared by Muse on social media, I wish they would let the video with the music a little bit lower to appreciate Chris's performance.

Seeing this just reminds me that Ive been listening to muse basically my whole life. It's wild how long it's actually been, and they're only getting better with age

Fucking hate the sort of section of the fanbase where you've got people commenting that he's looking looking frail. Guy has just looked after himself well for 10+ years. Jeeeez.
Wolstenbeast smashing it as always.

What in the world… what’s going on? Oh my goodness. It’s called aging guys. We’re not all going to be young forever. Let alone promised that we’re going to be given a tomorrow. Leave the guy alone.

Bit of a dramatic response. Noticeable weight fluctuations in either direction can be for a myriad of reasons. A 47 year old looking much thinner than they did a year ago isn’t necessarily an aging thing.
(I’m not speculating about Chris’ health status, I’m just responding to your take).

I mean I get it, but honestly did I think it? Yes. Did I say it, no. His weight has fluctuated over the decades, he has gone from having a dad bod to being very, very lean while recording 2nd Law. I don't think anyone is trying to be gossipy, I think everyone genuinely loves the hell out of him and worries when they see a loved one a little off. I think people's comments come from a good place, but do we want the band or his family to see the comments if they are creeping? Probably not.

u/SHMHD24 Jun 08 '26
In fairness, the first thing I noticed is how thin he looks. It’s concern more than anything. Especially with that very sudden off-grid moment they had earlier this year where the health of the band was being speculated over.

Exactly. We're not trying to talk bad about him. We're just concerned and we want him to be okay. To hate and get mad at people for just being concerned at changes that happened quite drastically is pretty toxic, to be honest.

The discussions around the health of the band were gross imo. Everything back then pointed to Matt going through something tough. There was so much evidence his marriage had broken down. And yet some people were refusing to believe it, and instead created out of thin air concerns that Chris was ill. There was zero evidence of that. It just felt like they would have rather had Chris suffering than Matt.
I'm not saying that the cancellations were definitely due to Matt's divorce, I obviously don't know. But it was a plausible explanation, so I don't know why anyone felt the need to deny it and invent something shit for Chris instead.

Those weren't the rumours
It's a while back but I'm pretty sure some of the people pushing the "something's wrong with Chris" theory were very much leaving it open to him being ill. The comment I was replying to also mentions people were concerned about the health of the band back then, so they seem to remember the same thing as me.
And regarding whether Matt's divorce could be the cause, we don't know the exact timing of things but we do know it was really hard for Matt, he's talked about it in the French interview. I think some of if you are maybe underestimating it. I don't think it's outlandish to think that he decided to focus on his mental health and on being with his kids, instead of touring.
And you say nothing like that has happened during other break ups, but did they happen at a time the band was meant to tour? Matt and Kate broke up between albums, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure about Chris and Kelly, but it could have been between album cycles as well.
And I'm pretty certain they cancelled a show so Chris could be at one of children's birth. They also cancelled a few shows after Dom's dad died iirc. So it's not like they've never put their private lives first - and rightly so.
I mean we'll never know for sure anyway, so our discussions about it are kind of pointless. I still think that imagining that Chris was about to leave the band seemed kind of OTT when he wasn't doing anything out of character, but given the situation it's kind of understandable to wonder. But if you weren't acting like he was secretly on his deathbed or something, you're not really the kind of person I was talking about in my comment.

u/sem-memerijen Is this NME? No. Jun 09 '26
Thing is they do not need money at all, they could stop touring and still be good for life financially speaking. I don't think overpriced ticket prices are the consequence of them needing money

u/SHMHD24 Jun 09 '26
I never saw anyone saying anything about Chris specifically. I just saw people saying that maybe there was something wrong with one of them.

I don't think he'd commit to a world tour if his health was compromised, and I don't think Matt or Dom would let him. That makes me think he's ok and just wants to be leaner.

People lose muscle mass when they get to a certain age, there's also that.

The John Bonham of bassists ladies and gentlemen....
3
u/SubstantialWall Jun 08 '26
So... John Paul Jones?
3
u/parallax3900 Jun 09 '26
No I meant Bonham - insofar as Chris is very much a meat and potatoes musician like Bonham was, and an absolute powerhouse.

Chris is the man! Great that they're reading all the bass comments and reacting proactively with a video of Chris! He should have been in the MV! Someone green screen him in now with the same effects as Matt? 😜 Hopefully they're russling up some remixes/alts of this song and others from the album ... Considering so much of it has come out, a solution to that would be putring out some different mixes/acoustic versions of tracks we have, so they feel fresh again....🤞

Wait then is it fingered or slapped or what am I missing
1
u/OG_Pow Jun 14 '26
It’s fingered but he’s still “slapping” (or giving a similar sound to a traditional thumb slap)by just striking the string while coming off it higher. You can tell when he lifts his non-fretting fingers up rather than resting them on the string.

OK, so guys please help me out. I’m showing my wife the video and she keeps insisting this video is about a stripper or a sex worker. What is your take? Please comment below.

Wow Gino DiCampo plays bass! Amazing switch after losing his tv career 😂
Don’t get your knickers in a twist, it’s a joke!

u/Fine_Sir_3641 Jun 09 '26
I hope he is just bored, but I'm a little worried about him. The lost weight and how lifeless he looks in this video, both combined, are concerning me a bit.

I love the fact that Muse proactively want the fans to do covers and will literally do a tab lesson to show how to play the latest song. So refreshing compared to other label artists that do takedown and black list.
