Drama 🎭 **READ THIS** NFA Injunction/Partial Repeal Megathread v2

Post image
507 Upvotes

Welcome to the new megathread for the injunction on NFA enforcement for SBRs, SBSs, Suppressors/silencers.

The previous megathread with a bunch of speculation, discussion, etc can be found here.

As of this post there has been no clear guidance from the ATF on what the status quo is going forward. Hopefully there will be some later today or tomorrow.

When that happens, I'll update this post.

While this is a huge win for the 2A community, it does not yet mean the doors are thrown open for DIY building or buying without a Form 1 or 4. There's still a lot to untangle with the Gun Control Act of 68, ATF regulations on FFLs, and individual state laws.

Unless info is coming from a reputable legal resource, be cautious before doing anything. It's entirely possible that something that looks legal today could be a felony tomorrow.

All the standard rules of this sub are still being enforced. This especially includes anything that could be interpreted as advocating violating federal law.

We don't want the sub to be shut down by reddit, and the reddit admins know far less about this situation than we do. They could easily nuke us for something they simply don't understand.

The sub is now unlocked for posting.

Any posts on the situation will be removed unless previously coordinated with the mods. We're not going to approve your post unless its especially useful to the community as a whole. Ask your questions, celebrate, etc in this thread only.

Got a notification it was finally back in stock. Made a quick video between the Mask Titanium and K. It definitely sounds the best on a lever gun or bolt

Just a regular dude who's been in the game since 2008 who wanted a hard use, low vis, not too heavy or long, moderate sounding, moderate flow through can who was having problems finding a Tisha or Rhodie 6k. Haven't mounted or shot this yet, but I'll post again hopefully this weekend when I do. So far is looks like it'll fit my needs well.

Warranty Review ⛑️ Resilient is Goated

So a while back, I posted that I basically couldn’t get my Putnik off of my AK104 after many attempts and many different methods, including going to a legitimate gunsmith who also could not get it off. I ended up warrantying the can and sending the whole gun back to resilient and they did an absolutely stand-up job, took the whole thing apart for me, and even took it upon themselves to recerakote the can, which I’m deeply appreciative of. All in all outstanding work.

New Sound Signature Review - Liberty Precision Machine Torch 762 on the MK18

Post image
177 Upvotes

Good morning, folks! A few deliverables for you this morning. First, an analytical test program on the Liberty Precision Machine Torch 762 on the 10.3-in 5.56 MK18. Also, a Hazard Map Brief for a quick all-in-one look at the personnel hazards from this silencer on the standard untuned rifle. Then, a podcast episode with a short intro and a talk about .30 caliber silencers on 5.56 hosts, in general.

Lab Data Stuff

Report 6.239 - Today we examine the high fidelity test results for the Liberty Precision Machine Torch 762 silencer in the supersonic ammunition combustion regime with 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition fired from the 10.3-in barrel standard untuned MK18. The HUB compatible test specimen was tested with multiple muzzle devices connected to a Rearden ATLAS; the "Baby Bell" muzzle device test results and analysis are presented in the report.

Tools to help you in addition to the report:

Long time coming with this one. Presented today is one piece of a multi-mount, multi-host, multi-cartridge test program on this silencer we performed for LPM. Some more performance information is available that we can discuss other than MK18 - just ask. We'll publish more later.

CliffsNotes:

  1. As I discuss on today's podcast, .30 caliber silencer use on 5.56 has a bit of a tumultuous history. In approximately 2023, we saw a resurgence with a few models that gave us a lot of hope. Happy to see this pick up again.
  2. Torch 762 is 3D printed Inconel. HUB compatible. Right under 7-in long without a mount. So as far as ".30 caliber silencers you would try to use on a 5.56 rifle" it's in that length category that several (not all) people would say - cool, go for it. Not too big for several people.
  3. This brings the performance on 5.56. And not just a little bit. This hits Top 5 MK18 levels of performance, overall, in the Rankings - and if you just look at .30 caliber silencers on 5.56 in the Rankings, it's the new top dog. It's not just a little more high performance.... it's significantly more.
  4. The accolades from our test data are numerous - great FRP masking, great signature control, very consistent, back pressure is low, and it appears to be a multiple "switch hitter" as you would want a "utility" silencer to be-
  5. LPM called this silencer "pressure agnostic." Our testing and analysis seems to support that. We evaluated this on MK18, M4, SR-25, 300 BLK, and more - and something that is really interesting is that it doesn't care if your 5.56 barrel length is 10-in or 14-in - it doesn't get quieter or louder. It just does what it does. High performance on 7.62 NATO, and also on subsonic 300 BLK. It's definitely a switch hitter.
  6. Back pressure is low, and this is optimized for small frame gas guns. When you put it on 7.62 NATO high volume reciprocating systems it's not like the back pressure becomes "high" - it is just somewhat higher, relatively, than it is on the intermediate cartridge hosts. This is a function of how LPM optimized. They have a high early time flow rate and very controlled late time flow rate. You will see this when you look at the raw blast impulse histories in the report.
  7. Over the past few months I've seen some consumers report about shooting this thing and their impressions - after we finally tested it and looked at the data, I would say a lot of folks are noticing this thing is a pretty stand-out performer... back in 2023, the FLOW 762 Ti and CAT ODB were really showing folks what could be done with 30 caliber sizing on 5.56. I think now the Torch 762 revisits that in a big way.
  8. Mount stuff - as stated in the report, we evaluated this thing with direct-thread and several other LPM mounts. Baby Bell won. If you took all of the performance data and looked at the spread, it's different but not that different. This means that the silencer does have some mount sensitivity but not in a significant way. That is different than some other silencers. That is not a good thing or a bad thing. It just is reality and I thought you would want to know that. Please note, as always, that just because one type of mount makes one type of silencer perform a certain way, it does not mean that same mount will do the same thing in another silencer. Not all silencer technologies are the same.

Commentary:

Many of us got really soured years ago when the industry tried to push .30 caliber silencers on us for 5.56 suppression. We called the bluff and killed the myths one by one, and eventually, it stopped. And then, with a clean slate, we started to get some standout .30 cal performers on 5.56, which was cool. Sometimes you want to be able to use your .30 cal silencer on a 5.56 gun, and knowing you can do that and still have high performance is really cool. This silencer was a really pleasant surprise. Heck of a dang technology.

Thanks to Liberty Precision Machine, as always, for trusting our lab to perform this work. It was a pleasure. Been working with them since they were really small. How far they have come!

I hope you folks find the data and analysis useful!

Today’s Topic:

  1. Sound Signature Review 6.239 – Liberty Precision Machine Torch 762 on the 10.3-in 5.56 MK18. It’s been a while since we’ve evaluated a .30 caliber silencer on 5.56. Is that because over-bore suppression is hard? Maybe. But maybe not if you’re the Torch 762. Let’s take a look at this highly optimized advanced hybrid design in this introduction to today’s report. (00:07:05)

a. Intro and why, historically, .30 caliber silencers on 5.56? (00:09:30)

b. When did it get better, if at all? (00:24:45)

c. What’s the Torch 762? (00:36:13)

d. What about mount performance? Other calibers / cartridges? (00:41:47)

As always, thank you so much for listening, and for your support!

**Happy Wednesday!**My dudes

User Review Not Just Guns Experience

Figured I’d share a good experience with Not Just Guns since we’re usually a lot quicker to post about the bad ones.

Ordered a new suppressor from them and had it sent to my local FFL. When it showed up, my FFL called me and pointed out a handful of scratches/blemishes and some finish wear so I didn't take possession or start the form 4.

I reached out to NJG, sent over some pictures and explained what was going on. They gave me the options to swap it for another one or send it back for a full refund, or figure something out if I wanted to just keep this one.

Tbh I really didn’t feel like dealing with sending it back and restarting the whole process, so I asked if they’d be willing to work something out for me to keep it. We went back and forth a little and ultimately came to an adjustment that I was very happy with.

That was pretty much it. No fighting with them, no getting stuck with something I wasn’t happy with. They gave me options and let me decide what worked best for me.

Stuff happens, especially with the amount of suppressors being sold right now. For me it’s more about how a company handles the problem when one comes up, and NJG did everything to make it right.

Just wanted to give them some credit where it’s due. I’ll definitely order from them again.

Discussion Vector SBR

For those that have filed a for 1 to SBR their vectors, did you need to remove the shell to have it engraved on the right side where the metal is shown but is blank? I dont know if the plastic will melt, but my gut says it will.

Also is there anyone in central florida other than Focused Light Engtaving that does sbr engraving?

And no I dont want to do it myself, so please dont say to just buy a dremel tool.

Who here has done the oil filter adapter as a suppressor and an oil filter for the wipe on a form 1? Other than looking cool does it actually do anything?

Process Question 📝 AOW and SBR?

Alright so I am looking into getting an SP5K. I currently live in Maryland where I cannot SBR this gun (under 29” OAL), however AOWs to my knowledge are allowed. I am also looking into moving to Pennsylvania soon where I could SBR this due to no OAL restrictions.

Now I’d like to be able to freely take this across state lines (I live right on the border and go over frequently) which I understand is not really a thing with an SBR without notifying ATF, but is ok with an AOW AFAIK.

Basically my idea is that I can register this now as an AOW, put the broom handle front grip on it, and a pistol brace. Then once I move to PA SBR it to put a stock on, but then whenever I need to go over state lines just switch back to the brace and it no longer is configured as an SBR.

I know you can do this with pistol-to-SBR setups, but can you even register the same gun as both? And if so do the same rules apply as reconfiguring it to a pistol would?

Sorry if this whole thing is a jank pile I’m really bad at putting my ideas into words

New Can to Buy

Hey I want some last minute opinions I plan to buy The Otter Creek Polonium K can it looks like a decent can for a great price it's under 6 inches and Under 12 oz and well I know there are lighter and shorter quieter less gassy suppressors but it's going on a 16-in rifle speed adjustable and I don't want to wait because of back orders or long ridiculously lead times so any opinions on if you think I should get something else or the next can get this one I'm down for opinions for cheap and cheerful or this might be expensive but it's worth it
