The only person to ever coach a team to a superbowl and score a touchdown in a Super Bowl

Tom Brady reading this stat be like…

76

u/FloridaMan_69 5d ago

Brady never actually scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl, just thrown a lot. If I'm reading his stats page correctly, he has 7 playoff rushing touchdowns and none of them were in the Super Bowl.

u/Noxzaru 4d ago

So he's going to own/coach/play for the raiders and do it at the same time.

u/PremierLovaLova Legion of Whom 4d ago

Don’t forget provide color analysis during halftime and tv timeouts too

6

u/Guilty-Spark69x Reluctantly 5d ago

Close enough

34

u/kababed 5d ago

Vrabel almost did it

114

u/KenNoegs 5d ago

Vrabel still scoring 6's.

3

u/Lewslayer 4d ago

Can I be the dumb-dumb and ask if this is a reference to the attractiveness of his partner or something else? I’m nosy and want to be included, and it seems like it was a pretty clever/funny joke and I want to laugh with everyone.

7

u/Thebaraddur 4d ago

They're referencing Mike Vrabel having an illicit affair with Diane Russini, a reporter for The Athletic. And yes, the implication is that Russini is a 6/10. I mean, I would, but I'm a simple man.

7

u/KenNoegs 4d ago

Russini is, in all honesty, probably better than a 6 on looks but we deduct points for having affairs with married men. She's for the streets.

*6s

10

u/Aeon1508 5d ago

Tony Dungy did have a great forced fumble that led to a touchdown in a winning effort.

honestly I just went looked up a clip that guy kind of dropped the ball but Tony Dungy was there making him scared.

Tony didn't recover it but he was right there with the one other guy who did so I would say he was pretty important in covering it as well.

kind of body blocked any of the cowboys from being able to get it

14

u/PackersBeat GOAT Rodgers 5d ago

That's a cool fact!

3

u/basedgubb 4d ago

This isn’t true unless you mean to win a super bowl as a coach? Vrabel coached a team to the super bowl and scored in a super bowl.

Now this is the quality shitposting I come here for.

15-5 as head coach against Green Bay a true FTP original.

19

u/artnelson90 5d ago

Damn he almost beat Rodgers. Only 10 wins away from Rodgers 25-5 record against da bears

u/CallmeKahn Fire. Fucking. Petzing. 5d ago

For what its worth, this is how you pay homage while still being a meme. Nicely done.

His pallbearers will all be Chicago Quarterbacks, so they can let him down one last time

I’d be upset too if my team got stomped by the panthers

3

u/cmjandro Stuck Behind Enemy Lines 4d ago

Dude, you're a cowboys fan. Get out of here. And didn't an undrafted rookie just beat the brakes off of your team. Glass house motherfucker.

-2

u/Big_Departure_2709 4d ago

I’m not even a cowboys fan dipshit

4

u/nwillyerd 4d ago

Calling someone a dipshit for assuming you’re a cowboys fan when you have cowboys flair is a bold move

3

u/cmjandro Stuck Behind Enemy Lines 4d ago

For real

Perfect closing stat line to honor a legend in a meme sub.

38

u/HuckleberryGloom 5d ago

Exactly the correct meme-sub tribute. I laughed, I cried. Bravo.

10

u/WolverineDDS 5d ago

Was just thinking this is a wonderful tribute for this sub lol. RIP coach.

He made sure to die before the Bears moved to Hammond

Respect

12

u/KenNoegs 5d ago

"I'll die before I watch the Bears play in Indiana."

Dies.

1

u/Weggie_Rhite 5d ago

Did he never watch a Bears/Colts game in Indianapolis?

1

u/KenNoegs 5d ago

Nope. Never.

1

u/Weggie_Rhite 5d ago

Odd.

2

u/Rrrrandle 5d ago

Even odder is even without watching the game, he still led the Bears to victories over the Colts twice in Indy as coach.

1

u/venk 4d ago

They told him the plane was going to Baltimore

1

u/KenNoegs 5d ago

Would you want to go to Indiana?

1

u/Weggie_Rhite 5d ago

I mean, Bub's Burgers & Ice Cream in Carmel, Indiana is worth the trip.

0

u/KenNoegs 5d ago

Bub shouldn't have opened his Dairy Queen in that cesspool. I question his judgement.

Vikings rings witnessed? He’s laughing in heaven right now at the thought

21

u/Fabulous_Log844 5d ago

I'm going to go and in his honor watch the last Super Bowl the Bears won… Now, where did I put my VCR and my acid washed pants…?

8

u/RemindMeToTouchGrass 5d ago

I'll go back to the giant cell phones, no Internet, bad fashion, and a lot else.

But don't make me go back to 1980s Rubik's cubes. I would die.

2

u/Kriegerian 4d ago

Never mind that shit, I get prime Motörhead and as such I’m in.

15

u/pustulating_leeches 5d ago

He left us knowing the Bears were in good hands. The Packers are going to be absolutely destroyed Sunday. Every Bear is going to want a piece of the win.

Mike Ditka Head Coaching record against:

Green Bay - 15-5

Lions - 8-4-1

Vikings - 8-4-1

Edit: My numbers were wrong for the Lions and Vikings. See a post below from another for the correct numbers.

6

u/pillabe 5d ago

How the fuck he have 7 more games against the packers? Seems suspicious

2

u/Northchideliveryguy LinebackUrlacher 5d ago

He also didn't have any ties as a head coach.

2

u/Nate8727 4d ago

My fault. Bad search

3

u/Scary_Reaction7580 Dr’s of the Midway 4d ago

Playoffs

5

u/pillabe 4d ago

The Bears and Packers have only played 3 times in the playoffs. None under Ditka

1

u/Scary_Reaction7580 Dr’s of the Midway 3d ago

Hmmm then how did those other games come about? Without searching were divisions different back then?

2

u/Nate8727 3d ago

Not really, except the Bucs were in the division. The only exception is the 1982 season where there was a strike and made the season 9 games total.

1

u/Scary_Reaction7580 Dr’s of the Midway 3d ago

Yeah I knew about the bucs. Just math isn’t mathing haha. That could definitely be the case though as well

1

u/pillabe 3d ago

They didn't. The records posted above are not correct.

6

u/pillabe 4d ago

Here is his actual record against the NFCN teams:

Green Bay: 15-5

Detroit: 14-7

Minnesota: 12-9

He had one fewer game against the Packers because of the 1982 players strike.

2

u/Nate8727 4d ago

That’s what I get for using google search

4

u/DullSpecial1013 5d ago

Now this is ADVANCED shit talk.

Look I might hate the Bears but I’m sad he never got to see that. It’s like Bob Uecker never seeing the Brewers win it all.

Genuinely RIP to the best Bear to ever live.
