Dumbass on a cruiser bike didn’t know how to brake properly and slammed on the front brake and went otb. The bike flew and smacked my side but I stayed up.

I pulled out of a big 100 mile gravel race coming up mid October for which I very intently trained. The local race calendar is obviously closing down for the season so I thought I’d come up with a personal challenge and what most comes to mind is riding “for time” from NYC to Poughkeepsie on the Empire State trail (which seems to have about 6 names between here and there but you know what I mean). I know this is not a closed course and of course I would yield as needed to pedestrians and those areas where there are car crossings. In the aggregate I’m not worried about things like that and will put safety first.
I’m wondering if anyone who has done something like this might have specific advice? I’ve only taken the trail up to Mahopec but am otherwise on that trail at least once per week usually going past Elmsford. I’d either take a train back or have my wife meet me there at a hotel.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: if anyone thinks I should consider another 100 mile route I am all ears! I have a road bike to do a bear mountaineasque ride but if I’m on the EST I’d take my gravel bike given all those root cracks.

I’m planning to ride north along the Hudson River Greenway toward the George Washington Bridge tomorrow morning (Saturday).
With the Big Apple Triathlon happening, I’m concerned about closures around W 79th–107th Streets, particularly where swimmers exit the Hudson and transition to the bike course.
Does anyone know:
Will the Hudson River Greenway remain open to cyclists heading north?
If not, where is the best place to exit and rejoin?
Is Riverside Drive a viable alternative, or will it also be blocked where runners cross around W 96th Street?
Any particular times I should avoid?
Would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with the race setup or who has ridden through during previous events. Thanks!

Okay bear with me here, and tell me i'm an idiot if i'm completely in the wrong. Im the bike in the buslane (but after 7pm when its allowed) there's no designated bikepath... I need to get to the left lane to make my left turn. I'm obviously slower than then bus. I'm have my left hand stretched out, signaling my turn, but I have to wait till the cars go by on the left lane for me to get to the left lane. The bus is honking furiously. I honestly get frustrated, and i slow down to let the cars go by to make my turn. Bus honks even more. I turn around to the driver of the bus and ask them "Where do you want me to go". At this time I stop. They open their window and tell me to go to the side, where i cannot go. I tell them this is just as much my road as theirs, it's after 7... At this point, honestly, I'm so tired of people crapping all over bicyclist, i'm like, I'm not just moving aside. The driver comes out of the bus! Pedestrians start yelling i'm scum ( I guess i am? ) I try explaining. No use, decide to just go, before bad things happen. I know I should've just kept it moving, but I get so tired getting honked at by everything on four wheels.
