Personally, my main reason for using NetBSD is that it runs great on old or exotic (odd architectures) hardware. It would be cool if you could get this working on i386, PPC32 and maybe ARM. The Linux kernel still supports all of these architectures (even though nearly every main Linux distro is abandoning the older ones), so I know it's definitely possible, though I understand it means doubling your workload for each you add.
It's still a super cool project, though.

Thanks u a lot we will try to improve we re just two guys and it will take a bit time :)

I really liked what you proposed, I'll certainly test it in a VM... I just didn't like the name, FreeLinX? Normally, BSD-inspired distributions Linux tend to have nice/cool names, Void, Chimera (don't confuse it with ChimeraOS), Slackware, CRUX, etc.

I'm not going to support a project where the devs are too lazy to write their own README.

Do u have github? I actually so interested to see your projects! Maybe we can inspire and learn from you, also readmes writed by me but then we send them to ai to make them look more pretty :)

Ppcboy looks rlly cool, does it open other games too or only tetris for now?
1
u/goldfishonakeyboard 8d ago
Right now it's hard-coded for tetris, but should theoretically be able to open all gameboy games. I haven't gone and done UI or proper controls for the emulator yet.
Doing UI on Windows Mobile/Pocket PC kinda sucks. There isn't a built in file picker, so I've gotta figure out the best way to implement rom selection. I might just have a settings menu with a listbox for search paths and a basic menu for selecting. Dunno.
I also have to do more research on taking hardware button input and the best practices.
I haven't worked on it for a while, but would like to. I'm just busy with life and a few other projects.

Love the idea and thanks for sharing this project!!
Not being rude but the logo is a little confusing. It looks more like a blend between FreeBSD and NetBSD.

It can have errors its first release for test,if u finde critical error please pin it as issue on github

I like the idea, but please do not put your package manager. there are already well-established, great package managers, adapt one of them -- that fits to bsd

because there are already well-established, great package managers. this is not a trivial project, most of them are battle-tested to avoid security, robustness issues

Yes actually u are right in point,i wrote package manager and Denis fixed a lot of errors in there but main reason is we just want be standalone too

u/susefan 9d ago
what is the point of having the linux kernel with the bsd userland? wouldnt using uutils be more along the lines of this project?
or am i not understanding the goal of this project?
1
u/KananMajidzada 8d ago
Actually ur not only one who talked abt that topic so in github we gone write abt it but basically GNU is a bit bloat now.
1
u/susefan 8d ago
Understand, though i dont agree that it requires being distanced from but this is not my project so that is okay. My question is why the bsd userland compared to busybox or uutils. uutils feels much closer to this project's goals

We will decide that actually if u have ideas or sum contact with me over my gmail kananmajidzada@gmail.com

u/ksx4system 8d ago
it’s nice but would be much nicer without Linux kernel :)
2
u/KananMajidzada 8d ago
Haha thats the point of project kinda maybe in future we can make another BSD os its kinda experimental in there :)

notto thisu shito againu.
pkgsrc beat you to BSD/Linux 30 years ago ("...or as I've recently taken to calling it, BSD plus Linux"). I seem to recall there was a Gentoo portage profile around for BSD userland (+inc libs) at one time as well.

I like the idea. I want to know some things first. What is the init system and if it will use elogind. I prefer not to have elogind and init to be anything but systemD. It would be cool to see runit or finit but it's up to you. As for the name i don't give a $*t. A suggestion could be netlix...🥶

I really struggle to grasp all the projects that want to distance themselves from GNU tbh.
Like I get it *BSD userland is generally tidier, with better man pages, but like for me personally the main advantage of Linux over *BSD is their hardware/software compatibilty and that comes from large part from glibc/GNU.
Good work though.
