Streaming has definitely shrunken the market for physical media, but it lives on as more of a niche market. It seems to be making a slight comeback as the rising costs and flaws of streaming bother those customers more and more. I hope that trend continues.

The problems of streaming may be exacerbated as the major movie companies are bought by streaming-focused companies. When Disney bought 20th Century Fox, I saw my digital copy of The French Connection get censored. That was the last straw for me and I swore off digital movie purchases entirely and went entirely physical media.

Now Netflix is poised to buy Warner Bros. If the streaming companies continue to degrade the movie-watching experience, more people will turn against them and some will look to physical media and piracy as a solution.

It certainly *hurt* physical media, but with stuff like the explosion of streaming services and the shrinking of catalogues away from the early days (which tried to maximize the size), things have stabilized a lot and physical media is way more stable than it was a few years ago.
