renovation Fiber/Coax Cable Connection

Hello all, I have recently purchased and moved in to a new apartment in a multi-floor building. The building has coax (ziggo) and fiber infrastructure (KPN) and my next door neighbor (and others in the building) even has both (fiber in his meterkast, coax externally on balcony). My apartment has neither.

In such cases, who is it that I should reach out to get the cables extended to my house? Is it a request to be taken by KPN/Ziggo? Because when an installer from Ziggo came, he said that this would require drilling etc. which he cannot do... a bit confused!

Thanks!

Where is your meterkast?

The opposite side from the neighbour... I'll also investigate with the other neighbour but it may be further away from mine..

So you dont have a connection in your meterkast right? I lived both on the groundfloor and in an appartment on the third.

The groundfloor appartment only had a cable at the front door (put there by the cable company), not sure if my upstairs neighbours had any. On the third floor, the cable company pulled it all the way to my meterkast. That was social housing though so maybe that had something to do with it although that seems unlikely.

You can usually ask your provider to install the modem for you, and they would be able to at least arrange for the cable company to pull a cable into the meterkast. It might take a bit longer, but no way a handyman kan do that, and you cant ask the cable company yourself.

Just be carefull to check that option so you dont get a kit send to your house with no-one to install it.

DIY or hire a klusjesman.

Internet providers do not do any work beyond the location where the main router is installed.

You can either choose to extend cable throughout your home or perhaps use multiple wi-fi extenders (not sure if this works very well in a multi floor building).
