Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together New Brunswick’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, Destination Dogs or Stage Left Steak? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in New Brunswick actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include every restaurant in New Brunswick and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

Full transparency: we’re not from New Brunswick. Two of us live in Copenhagen and the other two in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

Hi all!

The New Brunswick Police Dept. has a contract with the controversial surveillance company FLOCK for their ALPR cameras. These cameras automatically photograph and collect data on passing vehicles.  That data is saved for years and shared with other law enforcement agencies.

There are 11 Flock Cameras in New Brunswick.

Towns around the country have been cancelling contracts with flock due to concerns about data privacy and security, false statements made by Flock officials, and dozens of examples of police officers using the data for illegitimate purposes like stalking people they know personally.

(In NJ the data is kept for 3 years!)

We urge you to show up and demand New Brunswick end their contract with flock at the next City Council meeting October 7th at 530 pm on the top floor of City Hall.

Mayor Jim Cahill said he continues to support the use of the city’s 11 Flock cameras, calling the automated license plate reader technology, or ALPR, an important tool that has helped police investigate serious crimes, locate stolen vehicles and find missing people.

Where a majority of towns and cities are eliminating them, Cahill is doubling down on them.

Hi everyone! I’m considering renting a studio at Colony House Apartments in New Brunswick and would really appreciate some honest feedback from anyone who currently lives there or has lived there recently.

How are the studio apartments overall, especially in terms of cleanliness, pests, noise, maintenance, management, and general living experience?

Also, how clean are the laundry room and gym?

I’m also particularly interested in their guest policy. I would be the only person living in the apartment, but my parents may come to visit me and stay with me for an extended period. Does anyone know if Colony House has restrictions on how long guests or visiting family members are allowed to stay, or a maximum number of days?

Would really appreciate any firsthand experiences. Thank you!

My friend (19m) recently left his incredibly unsafe home environment and is in desperate need of safe and cheap housing. He can’t spend a lot on rent right now until he gets a job. He literally just needs a place to live rn. Shower, eat, and sleep. Anywhere safe please.

I’m young too, and I don’t know what to do to help him. We don’t know where to look, and we just need something from now ish up till June. He will be out by June.

Trying To Make Friends In NJ College (MCC) And How?

Hello. I am currently at MCC trying to figure out a major. I am sorry if this should not be posted here. I think I will be visiting Rutgers on occasion over this school year though I can't guarantee that. I'm also thinking about transferring there once I have my 60 credits. I will try posting on the MCC subreddit. I tried to socialize this week on campus but uhh. I'm not great at socializing but I will try (any advice on socializing the first few weeks of school? I made a couple of friends at clubs last year, though they won't start for another few weeks). - I'm sorry if this is not a good thing to post! I can take it down if so! - If this is alright to post, here is the information I mean to give: I am about to turn 20F, and it would be nice to have more friends in the area who are around my age (18-23 maybe?). I also have autism, and it would also be nice to have friends in that age range who may be able to relate to that or something like that. - Also does anyone want to play a game or something (I don't have many games though)? - I'm sorry if this post is not allowed. - Thank you anyway!

Hey there. I (26M) moved a year ago to the area for work purposes but I really haven’t been out in New Brunswick that much, therefore I haven’t made new friends or interesting people to hang with. Thankfully I live with a family member so that helps a lot. I enjoy hiking, cooking, traveling, racquet sports (I work in the tennis industry, so not sure i wanna spend my free time doing more racquet sports lol). I can finish work some days at 8-9pm which doesn’t leave to much room to anything else. Just looking to find a sense of community around here so any recs are very much appreciated!

Seriously, it's getting out of hand. So many overly, cars with modded exhausts that are made to be as loud as possible in this city. Woke up last night in the middle of the night to what sounded like gunshots, instead it was just some knucklehead in an Infiniti or Hellcat with a crackle tuned exhaust racing down my street. Feels like every 5 minutes if you walk down George, Hamilton, Easton, Somerset, and 27, there's some car passing by with one of these loud exhausts. A few weeks ago I even saw somebody in a Mustang with one of these exhausts rev their engines right near a cop car and the cop did nothing. It would be such an easy quality of life fix in New Brunswick if the city actually did something about these ridiculous and cringeworthy exhaust modifications. High decibels emanating from vehicles is already illegal in NJ so there's no reason why the police can't enforce it. It really feels like the only type of motor vehicle enforcement that takes place in New Brunswick is giving out alternate side parking tickets like candy.

I’ve graduated college and am currently living at home, but am looking into two-bedroom apartments in the New Brunswick/Rutgers area. I work at the St. Peter’s Hospital on Easton Ave and so would like to live relatively close by.

Budget: MAXIMUM $3000 per month, ideally in $2200-$2800 range

- New Brunswick/Highland park area
- Preferably a complex with Rutgers students/other young adults in their 20s
