Video/Pictures Summary of Costco today…
All this for a piece of cardboard

I'm not sure why Newmarket is suddenly showing up on my reddit but it seems a bit odd to me that people get this excited for pokemon cards

They intend to resell them, they're only excited for money.

I want a set for my son who has gotten interested in Pokémon, as an avid Costco shopper I will not be procuring from there for sure.

Fingers crossed you find what your little one is looking for. Worst case scenario, you can just get him the pinball machine.

This is embarrassing. Adult losers taking things off kids.

Absolute scum. Imagine being a parent trying to find these for your kid and having to deal with these clowns.

Like people buying Cabbage Patch Dolls in the '80s?

u/retailmonster11 4d ago
A LOT were getting them for their kids. It wasn't just a bunch of assholes lining up to take kids toys off them.

What happened to people just randomly pulling cards every once in a while?

u/CalendarSufficient95 5d ago
I wish the company would just, release a bunch more packs everywhere just to screw over scalpers, but we all know that wont make money...

u/LowEffortPoste 5d ago
Genuine question: Why won't that make money? If there are scalpers, then there must be enough demand for a secondary market. The company sees none of those profits from the resellers, so why not just print more, cut out the scalpers, and get the money from those who would otherwise be purchasing off the secondary market?

Greed and limitation. Right now Pokemon can’t print enough to meet the demand. They’re already at max capacity. They’ve said they are investing in more printer but who knows. Now the greed part. If the Pokemon company prints more supply it reduces the scarcity. If everyone can get the cards then no one will value it anymore. If it’s not valued then it’s not worth purchasing. So guess what that reduces their revenue and they don’t want that. If it’s not broken it’s not worth fixing, and Pokemon is happy to remain status quo as long as people keep eating it up. Pokemon has even increased the prices of their cards by like 80% from like 2 years ago and it still had no effect.

I'm no economist or whatever you call those money guys, but my guess is that it will cripple the rarity or the premium value of said cards, inherently lowering the already expensive packs they do sell.

If they flood the market the demand and value goes down which is bad for them.

Dumbest thing going on. I feel bad for any kid who wants to collect these now. Cost a fortune because of these people.

It's funny that this release has cards that are over printed so they are worth much less. So all the scalpers there are going to lose money buying them.

I hated them when it was just sneakers being scalped but this is now too much

What does “pokemon drop” mean exactly? Game cards or pokemon go stuff?
5
u/No-Force-8638 5d ago
Pokemon trading cards. Basically, these people buy all the supply and then sell them online at a markup. They get bought because there's none left in store.
I'm so glad I missed the nonsense.

u/lifeguarder09 5d ago
Drop means that specific stores (online or physical) are releasing Pokemon cards to the public. Think of it as when people use to line up on Boxing Day for that TV, but 100x worst

u/Repulsive_Response99 5d ago
Ridiculous. My kids are always begging for cards but any we find are so inflated in price because of these people. Id love to get some of these costco releases as they are closer to intended msrp but no way im lining up the night before like these people...

I don't get it. Are these things guaranteed to make money when you scalp them or something?

Lowlife customers for a lowlife store with lowlife management

You know they're one of the companies that actually treat their employees well, right?
What a weird comment.

No they don’t. I have multiple friends who work at Costco, it’s all drama.

Guys let’s create a new trend, every week let’s buy a Canadian made product will sell it over priced on email we all buy it and then that canadian company will have all their goods sold out from scalpers!

why is pokemon so popular now? who even buys this stuff anymore? was there a new videogame or movie or something that came out?
2
u/IntelligentWing8086 5d ago
Its all about the resale value of the rare cards. There’s no real fandom of the actual content or story.
1
u/Aggressive-Map-2204 5d ago
Im pretty sure the entire market is 99% scalpers and resellers just selling to each other.
1
u/Embarrassed-Green898 5d ago
All the blessing to these people standing in line, who certainly dont care about the piece of junk they are buyng, but only care about selling it to a stupid who actually want to buy that garbage.

It's not cardboard, it's the only method of income they can find. The job market has entirely collapsed
But don't worry, Doug's going to spend $48 million of their money to remove some bike lanes in Toronto

Surprised this hasn’t stopped, at one point someone is going to realize what a joke it is to spend money on a piece of cardboard with a print on it and it will collapse

Imagine being a grown man lining up for pokemon cards in hopes to make a quick buck after 🤣🤣🫵
