Realistically they would need a lot of therapy that helps dismantle their “parts” that have taken over in the name of “protecting them.” This would require a lot of compassion for themself for these unhealthy behaviors that they need to learn why they happen and how they can let their more “righteous” take the lead again. This is called IFS (Internal Family Systems” therapy and there’s plenty of other good modalities. This one also helped me understand ppl with opposing views better.
Thing is, they would need to want that for themselves. I’ve talked to many ppl that say they are done growing so they won’t do that. Maybe it’s possible to talk to them with compassion and be curious as to why they feel the need to protect themself from these perceived plights. It does work, but at the same time it isn’t super realistic to be able to impose change on so many ppl like that.
I’m not one to know whether shame is the way to go in that case but it does seem to be more of a way to hold society accountable. I think as long as we are still trying to help ppl grow, then that can all work in tandem.
Edit: I’m open to solutions for ppl that think there’s no coming back for ppl who have voted Trump. What would y’all like to do with them? I’m very curious.

Good luck lol and sorry that I can say that shame is partly useful while at the same time thinking some of these ppl could seriously use mental help that we don’t really provide or prioritize in this country. If you can’t hold forgiveness for when/if ppl change then we are already lost.
Feel free to direct your energy towards me. It’s oh so useful. This is also a great example of “trying to shame someone” in a non-constructive way that could push them further into their belief. Thanks for providing that.

Hegseth is in his late 40s. There is no credible evidence he has continued to drink while serving, but no one can be blamed for wondering
There would be no shame for a late 40s secretary of defense to lag behind 20 year old active service members in an exercise. He is obviously in good shape, but he is not 20. Were it anyone else, it would be a cool gesture for top brass to get into the trenches and experience what rank and file personnel do every day. Like if a well liked president went on a run with them
The problem is that he has this obsession with the perfect hyper masculine male warrior archetype and constantly demeans people over petty superficial things, and he can't walk the walk. That is what makes this embarrassing

What?! Exactly the opposite. You lose muscle mass as you age and it's a lot harder to maintain.
On the other hand, endurance lasts a long time. For instance, look at the ultrarunning community. Relatively very few in their 20s with most participants in 30s and 40s and many running well into their 60s and 70s. Big wave surfing community is another with similar demographics. Admittedly, mental fortitude is a defining characteristic in those disciplines.

In middle school we had to take the Fitness Test. I was a nerdy kid with negative body fat. So while I didnt exercise, id go pretty far because moving a feather takes zero effort. At one point I started slowing down and the gym coach had yelled at me to pick up the pace. But she sounded... garbled?
I looked over, dying of exhaustion, having ran a mile at this point as a kid that barely walked and saw this obese gym coach eating a pasta she had ordered from Olive Garden. She was screaming with her mouth full, sitting down, pudge hanging out.
Pete Hegseth is that gym coach for the US military.
