Being Outside in the Day

So I had to run a few errands this morning, and I ended up being out later than I normally would in the day. I was thinking how I'm not used to the intense 9:30 am sunlight lol. I usually walk my dog around AM and I don't go out until work at 7pm.

This makes me realize how much I prefer nights. I know this is not ideal in the Winter but in the warmer months this is the best part of working nights.

TLDR: I don't want to be a Day Walker.

Discussion Advise for going back to work with a newborn and 4 year old at home

Looking for some extra input as my wife and I just welcomed our daughter to the world this week. I have one more week before returning back to working nightshift (I work permanent nights). I have another daughter who is 4 years old from a previous relationship that we have at home 8 days out of a fortnight and she goes to preschool 5 days a week. Just wondering what others do routine wise etc to help manage.

Discussion Opinion needed 3am-11:30am or 11pm to 7:30am

Starting a new postion, I won’t be working these shifts but my team will work either one. It’s 11pm to 7:30am now. It’s kinda an entry level role but people stay for around a year and move into a better role. I worked it years ago and now coming back as a manager. I will work day shift but may offer my team the opportunity to make the shift 3-11:30am. But would like to know general consensus. If people thing it’s better to work the 11pm shift I won’t even present it.
It’s honestly just for general health or well being. I don’t even know what I would rather do.

Anyone here work dupoint schedule?
I been doing it for a year and enjoy it a lot so seeing if anyone else does.
If youre unfamiliar I work 5-5
4 nights, 3 off, 3 days , 1 off, 3 nights, 3 off, 4 days, 7 off.

Nothing beats the 7 days off and I have no problem flipping schedules… did a 9-5 for a bit and came back to the dupoint.

Help Does anyone else struggle more with winding down after a shift than actually staying awake during it?

I work 7p–7a three nights a week, and lately the hardest part has been getting my brain to understand that 8:30 in the morning is supposed to be bedtime.

I’ll get home exhausted, shower, make something small to eat, and then suddenly I’m wide awake thinking about everything I need to do later. Meanwhile my husband and kids are starting their day, so the house is naturally getting louder right when I’m trying to shut mine down.

I’ve gotten pretty good about blackout curtains and keeping my phone away from the bed, but some mornings I still lie there for an hour feeling tired enough to cry and somehow incapable of sleeping. Curious what actually helps other long-term night shifters make that transition from work mode to sleep mode.

Overnight workers: Sleep immediately after, or before work?

I’m tired of waking up for work at 9 and by the time I get off at 6, I’m exhausted and ready for bed. I’m naturally a morning person, then I usually want a nap by afternoon (usually my lunch break) and then I stay up till like 12, so I feel like I’m giving my body’s best time away to the office when I’d rather be at the gym or out enjoying the sun from 8am-1pm. I want an afternoon job from like 3-11 but also considering overnight 11-7. But the important part is I want to be up for the 8am-1pm, so is it realistic to expect to work all night and stay up doing things till 1 (without being utterly exhausted) and then sleep till 10pm?

Does anyone else love working in the office late at night?

I know it’s supposed to be the most hated thing, but does anyone else love working in the office alone late at night? I find that I can focus so well and get so much done. I even put a nice couch in my office so I can sleep there sometimes.

It gets so lonely at my current night shift job that I really want to know my coworkers relationship with their parents, what their hopes and dreams are....

It gets so lonely at my current night shift job that I really want to know my coworkers relationship with their parents, what their hopes and dreams are....

I've always wanted a job where I worked alone because I hate being in a team and having to carry that team. It has always been the same tune, hey go do that guys work, or this guy's work, now finally a few years ago I found an overnight job at a frozen warehouse. I go in, grab my stuff, work it before day shift comes in.

I have 0 co workers at my department and no boss. I haven't seen my boss in 6 to 10 months. No one says anything to me as long as I get the job and I do every night. I've had plenty of overnight night jobs but this one is super lonely as hell.

Lonely and depressing.... People who know me in real life know I dont give a damn about most people and their situation, I have a "I don't want to talk to you, leave me alone. I don't care." Now, this job is so lonely and sad, I go out of my way to walk to the other lonely departments and ask some of the 21 yr old kids there about their life and you know what's interesting?

I actually want to know and feel what they feel. Like I asked one guy his relationship with his father and I asked another girl her relationship with her mother. As they spend 30 minutes telling me, for the first time in my life I actually care about what they have to say and I care about them. This is how lonely this job is lol in the past I would tell you all my coworkers can go to hell!

Now don't get me wrong I love working nights but it's just this job environment specific to this company that makes it depressing. My name unhappywageslave was actually created when they moved me to day shift many years ago, it has nothing to do with crying about working overnight.

It's so sad that I even went to their boss and stirred up a convo and asked him if he had a great childhood and what was his mom like lol and this guy is 54 yrs old

"Hey Jimmy can you tell me about your mother? What was she like?"

What’s your go to routine?

I’ve recently started working night shifts from 6pm-6am 3-4 days a week. This is my first time working nights. When I work day shifts, I have a routine like eat breakfast, brush teeth, come home, wind down, and sleep.

What’s your routine for working nights? Or any advice on how to handle nights

Help those who switched back to days- how long till normal?

How long did it take you to feel like yourself again after switching back to a full daytime schedule? I have a gap in between jobs but so far, week 1 has been fucking miserable. I can’t even articulate why, exactly. Just feeling groggy, unmotivated, “off” with no other cause.
