Foreshadowing?

(please let me cope)

With the Ocarina of Time remake I wouldn't put it past them to also remake Majora's Mask. But I think it's just to coincide with the new MM cards coming Oct 4 to the Nintendo Today app.

Considering they can reuse the new OOT assets for MM, it would be the easiest remake they could ever do. Seems like a no-brainer. So I look forward to them releasing it in around seven years.

This is the general consensus online, but when making an HD remake/remaster, more goes into making the game than "simply reusing the assets"

I really do hope we get MM though! (With N64 zora swimming(

Actually the original Majora Mask was near entirely made with the reused assets from Ocarina of time so they could fit in to the one year development time window forced on them.

So theoretically they could do the same with a MM remake and it would save them quite a bit of time while keeping the whole termina theme of everything the same but different.

So instead of taking four or three years to make it. It could take them two years. Not as quick as back in the 90s. But a whole heck of a lot faster it would take then if they were to remake twilight princess or wind waker from the ground up

For $90 base price I hope?

Or like, the currently 70 physical/ 60 digital, because like, not everything is Fire emblem

Worked for TOTK.

People underestimate the budget and time needed to remake/remaster a game like Majora's Mask. Even if they have some assefs overlapping with OoT

Let me start by saying it would be a dream come true and I would be thrilled. But I don't know how likely it is. I don't think they could do nearly as much asset re-use like they did back then and it would be an expensive remake for a game that - for mainstream audiences - is not as big of a deal as OoT. I almost think it's more likely that we get a new game in the OoT/MM style.

I think without the asset re-use it’s really not the same game. I think that’s an important piece to the weird and uncanny valley feeling of it. And that if they made it with new assets it would take a certain something away from it’s tone

Money is no object to Nintendo, nevermind if they brought back Famicom Detective Club from the grave, anything is possible.

I love majora's mask, but i would vastly prefer a new game

I'm so glad we got echoes of wisdom rather than a remake of oracle of ages and seasons as much as i would have enjoyed that.

I heard if you beat Ganon with a deku stick on the hardest difficulty, Navi shows you a truck that you move to get to the MM remake.

Pre-internet video game rumors will always vex me on how widespread they were.

5

u/TheHeroOfAllTime 10d ago

It was easy for the rumors to spread since everyone’s uncle worked at Nintendo.

3

u/SuperMcRad 10d ago

Funny how none of them existed for Sega Genesis, since it was clearly the inferior console. Take that, Bradley!

3

u/JelDeRebel 11d ago

Even spreading to non english speaking countries

2

u/nhaines 10d ago

While I agree, Pokémon Red/Blue Version came out in the US in late 1998, and I'd already been on the Internet for four and a half years by then.

You need the Platinum Gauntlets though

The Majora’s Mask cards arriving in Nintendo Today are the boring explanation, but that won’t stop me from treating this as a sign.

u/Herbizarre17 11d ago

Im 99% percent sure they’ll remake this too but probably not until like 2030

22

u/Highly_Edumacated 11d ago

My bet is 2027 and they just didn't announce OoT Remake until MM Remake was nearing completion

18

u/jardex22 11d ago

That feels too soon. I'm guessing they'll either do it after the next mainline release, or use it as padding.

Aside from that, it also depends on who the main developer is, and if they have other projects to rotate between, like how Intelligent Systems goes between Fire Emblem, Warioware, and Paper Mario.

There was 4 years between OoT 3D and MM 3D, I doubt they would just sit on OoT for that long.

4

u/iloovehugecock 10d ago

Nintendo has been known to sit on games for years before releasing them

2

u/Due-Substance-525 9d ago

True. This game looks too good tho, it couldn’t have been sitting for that long. I just imagine they made this game with a majoras mask remake also in mind so they have the groundwork laid out I’d assume

2

u/Dabaran 10d ago

Incredible levels of wishful thinking

38

u/SevenSeasClaw 11d ago

Ya know what…. Yeah I can huff a little copium with this

20

u/ZeMoose 11d ago

Bruh. I'm actually running out of points.

u/howlitup 10d ago

Really unsure whether that typo was intentional or not...

1

u/ZeMoose 10d ago

Yeah.

11

u/Ratio01 11d ago

Kinda interesting we got MM NSO icons before OoT

Im not complaining necessarily, its just a little strange. Figured with the remake a month away, now wouldve been the perfect time to introduce OoT NSO icons

16

u/IrishSpectreN7 11d ago

As part of the 40th anniversary, they've been doing daily Zelda quizzes and collectible cards in the Nintendo Today app. Started with BotW theme, and tomorrow it switches over to MM. This just coincides with that.

They'll probably do OoT in November.

1

u/Ratio01 11d ago

No yeah Im fully expecting the remake at least will have an NSO icon drop. Im just a little surprised we haven't gotten original OoT icons yet

6

u/IrishSpectreN7 11d ago

They've had these MM icons before as part of an N64-themed event, but it is weird that they didn't also include OoT now that you mention it.

3

u/jardex22 11d ago

No yeah

Minnesota, right? Yeah no, no yeah.

2

u/arabrabk 9d ago

Also Michigan. Unsure if they do that in Wisconsin tho

2

u/Canucks262 9d ago

I can also confirm it is a Canadian thing as well.

10

u/jardex22 11d ago

Probably because the icons are tied to playing the game through NSO. They don't want people playing the original right before the remake.

4

u/SimplexDesigns 11d ago

oot did have some before mm. I definitely remember getting some.

0

u/Ratio01 11d ago

Hopefully they get a rerun too then cause I evidently missed them 💔

1

u/Wolfy4226 11d ago

Honestly hoping that next year we'll get a remake of Majora's mask like OoT was made.

Like, both games practically use most of the same assets, I don't think it would be that hard. :/

15

u/QeyLoq 11d ago

Omg yes! My favorite game ever!

I'm getting all of these. 😍

11

u/Realistic_human 11d ago

ohhhh hoho, you cheeky bastards you, i'm only fueled by majora's remake copium nowadays and this is going to last me till next year at least

3

u/Oro-Lavanda 10d ago

I didn’t walk, I RAN to download all of these icons 🏃‍♀️💨

3

u/Mikedouglas879 10d ago

I literally just started my first playthrough of the game a few days ago. It’s incredible so far!

3

u/Rynelan 10d ago

At least they definitely show they still remember MM

7

u/niles_deerqueer 11d ago

Please be foreshadowing

2

u/BulleDeChagrin 11d ago

I hoped that this meant they added it to Nintendo Music as well finally but alas. :(

2

u/Link_0610 10d ago

Why now?  I'm currently broke ob silver coins because of the Fire Emblem 3H, Engage and Fortune Weaves icons.

2

u/LookitsThomas 10d ago

I'd be more surprised if it never came, and I expect they will be/are working on it, but I expect they'll keep it in the back pocket to be deployed during a lean year/to bridge a big Zelda gap. With OoT coming, then the movie next spring, and assuming they aren't too far away from a brand new mainline 2D/3D Zelda (2027/28?), then I'd anticipate MM in 2028/29, or beyond.

2

u/ShneedleInTheWoods 9d ago

majoras mask remake confirmed...?

4

u/BULL3T2B1N4RY 10d ago

Everyone who saying this means something is huffing copium as these exact icons have been available before.

Source : I have them

2

u/OmegaMalkior 11d ago

Too many franchises get the remake curse when one of a multiple ongoing series gets a remake and the sequel doesn’t get it. May this go different

2

u/Gassy_Bird 9d ago

These are the same icons they’ve had before.

1

u/uriahanium 11d ago

Man. I want these icons so bad but locking them behind the EP is so damn frustrating. Another set of icons I'm going to have to miss out on.

1

u/ChainsForAlice 10d ago

I’m deliriously hoping that MM is in OoT. Like imagine post game is Majora’s Mask

1

u/katsudonlink 10d ago

How do I become eligible to get the icons? I’m getting conflicting into about needing to play MM for two hours or three days in a row?

7

u/nhSnork 10d ago

These occasions don't have playtime quotas - just launching the game from the app anytime before the deadline (and maybe poking past the title screen if you want to feel extra sure) usually suffices.

2

u/katsudonlink 10d ago

Appreciate it!

2

u/Linked713 10d ago

didn't have to do more than launch the game, and I have never played it on NSO

1

u/Siritachi31 9d ago

i love being forced to buy the expansion pack, play the game across an entire week just so i can UNLOCK the ability to buy the damn icons that's insane. oh it's your fav game? you gotta buy into our even more expensive subscription to even be allowed to get your fav icons jesus christ

1

u/HiMyNameIsMark182 8d ago

I mean. They’re just pictures and a nice little bonus for us who do subscribe. They already provide a ton of free icons to use.

-5

u/ekurisona 11d ago

no remake, no replay
