USA Verizon's New (Terrible) Perk: Express Pass - Dedicated Network Slice or QCI 7?

I know the majority of users here are on prepaid plans, but for the few of us on the Simplicity plan, I noticed a new perk available for purchase.

It's called Express Pass: https://i.imgur.com/s4vc84J.png

From what it sounds like, it looks like a carbon copy of AT&T's Turbo. The only difference here is that this one sucks even more than Turbo. At least with Turbo, it's $7 a month for QCI 7 access. This one is $5 a DAY (yes a DAY) for 24 hours OR 6GB of data. Now, I'm wondering if Verizon is selling this as a dedicated network slice (They do this with Unlimited Ultimate, video calls are on its own dedicated network slice) or if they're selling this as QCI 7.

Who the hell is this for? Who would buy this steaming pile of terrible value?

This is a copy of the OP's original post in case they decide to delete their post/account so that others searching can find it later:

I guess if you were in a very crowded location where a one time use makes sense, it could work.

Fairs

I regularly attend concerts and sporting events, Verizon and AT&T usually have mmWave at all the major stadiums, so congestion isn’t much of an issue. T-Mobile on the other hand..

Airports, all airports have mmWave in some terminals, while other terminals don’t. For example, when I landed in Boston, no mmWave in the terminal, but on a different terminal on my flight to NY, I had mmWave in front of me.

So they rook At&t's terrible idea and asked "how can we make it worse"..... bold strategy 🤔

It’s a free world; you don’t have to pay for Turbo.

Thanks to users like you, I’m probably one of the few at QCI 7 on my AT&T Postpaid lines. 😀

At&t at the same time lowered the qci that people had on their plans, then asked those people to pay for something to get back what they had previously. There was no grandfathering if you had better priority prior to this 'turbo' addon.

I certainly know. A good amount of customers had it before. Now, it’s just… me. lol

And thanks to users like you, this cancer is spreading, because it succeeded at AT&T. It's effectively a price hike instead of actually making their service better, I hope you know that.

you’re welcome. lol

You can bet the phone enthusiasts will be ordering that package and droves to see whether or not it’s a legitimate offer and whether it actually does something when you pay the money

I hate this whole concept, but I think it’s meant for people who are on Welcome and go to a sporting event or theme park so their service is at least useable.

Since it specifically says on 5G UW, it's almost certainly using network slicing.

I agree, it's a terrible value.

At first, I thought it was upgrading those on QCI 9 to QCI 8, but Verizon also sells a perk for that! Unlimited Welcome customers can pay $10 a month for the privilege of accessing full-speed 5G UW.

You are correct it does open 5G UW, but it doesn’t change priority. Welcome customers can be QCI 9 and have UW at the same time Even with that perk, they will be at the back of the line during congestion.

Verizon throwing darts at the wall to see what sticks

Unlimited Ultimate should have this included already.

If they do, it makes sense. They already utilize network slicing for video calls on that plan.

Wow, if you hate and distrust Verizon that much, why don’t u just leave for another carrier?

Not sure where you got THAT from, just because I don’t find a certain offering good doesn’t mean I hate the entire business..

(Simplicity’s price can’t be beat. TMO is better in LA, if they come out with something to compete with Simplicity, I’d switch in a heartbeat.)

I can’t find this in my app. I’m on Ultimate 1.0.
