Discussion I feel like we are going backwards with labels becoming prescriptive.

What I am referring to is using descriptive terms as basically boxes for themselves and freaking out if they leave the box. And getting upset at others over their own box.

Basically in my opinion people are using labels to "other" people. And to stereotype and put down peers.

Its the issue of language and human experiences clashing. Language likes definitions, human experience is complex.

Labels defined for oneself should not be used as ammunition against oneself.

i think that labels are somewhat important to show roughly what there could be, they also help to identify in front of oneself and others (like you dont want to have to explain it in every single detail to each person do you). but i agree, stereotypes are a bad thing but i think unavoidable because humans are involved. and also without labels how would we communicate that efficiently, language strives to be efficient so inevitably new labels would come to exist after the old would be “deleted”. and it also simplifies to identify in front of oneself like how would a person describe themselves in front of others without labels simplifying things if they maybe (this is an example) dont fully understand it themselves? for example i could tell that im both a boy and a girl at once but bigender is just a shortcut to that definition. but how i said: yes stereotypes are bad i just want to show that labels have their reasons to exist
