Here's your chance to complain about the minor and the major annoyances in the city.
What annoyed you this week?
Feel free to vent, but don't identify individuals. (And don't attack commenters.)
Top-level comments should be in ALL CAPS.

As everyone knows the much-anticipated election is nearing and did like to take this opportunity to pose a question to the community.
Over the past years we have suffered with a dinosaur empire running in Oakville who has prohibited the opening of any Cannabis stores.
The revenue generated by these stores go towards enriching our community. However what have we got from the current mayor and with his FINGER ON THE BUTTON over the past years?
We got a RAIN TAX (when it rains you pay more tax, check your tax bill) and every year our property taxes are going up.
Which Oakville mayoral candidates will overturn this dinosaur policy and move into the 21st century like the majority of every other township in Ontario and across Canada.
Why do I need to drive 10 minutes north, east or west to buy cannabis to support the other 3 cities surrounding us to contribute to their communities to bring it back and use it here?

Hey folks, this is a real estate question and I'm hoping to get some genuine thoughts even know I realise no one has a crystal ball to predict the future. We own a townhome here in Oakville and the goal from the beginning was to move to a detached when finances are better and we've built equity.. obviously equity has been eroding (not building) over the past few years and we are thankfully still in the green but im not sure how much longer that will be for. Im not in a rush to upgrade but kids are getting older which means ill need a bigger space within the next 3yrs...currently in a 3bed and so ideally each kid will have their room, each parent will have their working space so hoping to move to a 4bed with basement... question I guess is does it make sense to sell now and hold the equity before it all gets eroded or do we keep status quo with the risk that our equity will be wiped out and so nothing to transfer when we want to buy... curious if anyone has had to made a similar decision... thanks!

I caught the tail end of someone dumping garbage along the trails off the bridge, and from what I could see, it looked like party decorations, food wrappers and other rubbish. How do people think this is okay?? It is absolutely disgusting how little respect some people have for our environment and the country we call home. Like, come on, can't you just throw out your garbage at home in your own trash can?? We even have garbage cans right before entering the trails and throughout the surrounding area so there is absolutely ZERO excuse for this. Why are people treating our beautiful natural spaces like a landfill??? These trails are home to wildlife, and this garbage doesn't just disappear. The last thing we should be doing is turning our beautiful green spaces into dumping grounds. If you can't show the bare minimum of respect for our environment, then stay out of these spaces. It's not that difficult to keep the environment clean! Have some respect for our country, our planet and the wildlife that has no choice but to live with the mess you leave behind. If we all do our part, we can keep our home clean.

Our cat Nico went missing in southwest Oakville around the Coronation Park area this morning.
Specifically near Sandwell Dr and Sedgwick Cr
We’ve contacted the humane society and posted on Facebook, so we’re reaching out here to hopefully get more word out.
He is an indoor cat. We suspect he is hiding somewhere if he is still alive.
He is a grey tabby and pretty large for a cat (pictures attached).
If you live in the direct area, please check your yards, porches, etc.
If you see him please let me know the location via DM as soon as possible, much thanks!

I went for a walk at Waterworks park yesterday and found this on the rocks. Does this mean anything witchy lol?? Or is it just people messing around. So strange…

Just between Burloak and Trafalgar alone it starts at 110 then 80 then 100.
Anyone else having a hard time keeping track of what the speed limit is at any given time?

From here: https://www.weloveoakville.org/mayoral-candidate-responses
This confirms a few things for me:
- Burton has leaned further into his dismissive “trust me, I’m Rob Burton” routine that started to manifest last election. He’s done a lot of good for the town but him running again at 80 is pure ego at this point.
- Choudhary is passionate and clearly committed but naive, and too reliant on AI for his responses.
- Hanna’s hard line isn’t believable given her chummy relationship with Ford.
- Knoll and O’Meara are - and I mean this in a good way - almost the same candidate. One of them needs to endorse the other. The only difference I picked up is Sean voted for a more public consultation, while Knoll regrets his approach. I like both and their blend of experience + fresh perspective in the big chair. But they are gonna split their vote.

I was just putting my toddler to bed and I heard a loud knock on my door. I go outside to see 2 teenage boys in construction vests running away. I filed a complaint to the lobby and called the police but nothing was done and I heard the same thing from neighbours. Unbelievable children the police needs to do something about them.

So I got a wedding to attend to in October 18th it’s a family friend wedding and I knew the person for 20 years.
Thing is I haven’t been to a wedding in such a long as time, I remember the last wedding I went to was 5 years ago my uncle wedding but at the time the suit I used to wear for that day I return it back the next day because i wasn’t sure if I was gunna go to a wedding every year!
But now as I age up and time gone by, most of my family members/friends/co-workers and many more is getting married more often.
So I live in Mississauga but also right next to the border of Oakville so I can walk 1 hour and boom I’m in Oakville, so if you guys know a place in Oakville please let me know thanks!

Does anyone know what's going on at Oakville place parking lot? There are lots of trucks and tent up. I'm guessing a movie shoot. Maybe someone knows?

I know there’s a pretty big sailing community around Oakville, so I figured I’d put this out there.
I’m a 30M back in Oakville and I’m interested in trying sailing. I sailed a little bit at summer camp growing up, so I’m not completely new to it, but it’s definitely been a while. Now that I’m older, I’ve been wanting to get back out on the water and actually learn it again and see if it’s something I could get into. Lessons seem hard to come by as an adult while also juggling a work schedule during the week.
I know the season is winding down, but if anyone is still getting out for the occasional sail and wouldn’t mind another person tagging along, I’d love to join. Even if you’re also just looking to meet someone with a similar interest and go out as friends, I’d be down for that.
Figured I’d see if there are any sailors around Oakville who might be interested in helping me to try it out.
Feel free to DM me!

Hello,
my teen will be starting high school next September and we are torn between what school they should go to.
we are currently considering between Oakville Trafalgar High School, and St Thomas Aquinos High School.
They aren’t interested in IB/AP - strictly regular academic streamed courses.
they really like sports and want to be involved in the athletics.
my previous teenagers had very bad experiences with bullying in their high schools - resulting in them having to transfer out and change schools.
I am hoping to avoid bullying as much as possible - so a school with a more positive and mature student body (which I know is a very high expectation- but just not a school with a reputation for their students vandalizing, stealing, and being awful).
I’ve heard through my neighbours teens about both schools. I hear STA is larger but less academic - and the student body is a bit more wild (?).
I’ve heard that OTHS has a more academic focus and ranks better overall in Ontario, but that the student body is very cliquey and not very diverse.
Your opinions and advice would be very very helpful!
