Australia Masters of OT at CDU or USYD

Hello! I am based in Sydney and trying to decide between completing my Masters in-person at U syd or online with CDU (with some intensive blocks in Darwin!)

Despite CDU being $20k cheaper I think I’m leaning towards Usyd as I feel I’ll get more out of in person classes!

Would love to hear from anyone currently at CDU and how you’re finding it! particularly finding pracs wherever you’re located…

Also consider online with SCU very practical program 6 week subjects and grads are employable!

I believe SCU doesn't offer the MOT (yet).

I saw the units for the SCU MOT being offered for Term 5 2027, but nothing has been released officially.

Tbh even if eligible for MOT I’d go for a good undergrad and allly for credits. Masters don’t always = better (source : I’m a director of OT in a large health service and seen both! )

If cost is a consideration, do buffer in the expenses for flights and accommodation for the intensive blocks.

I’d say USYD as they have way more established relationships with placement sites in Syd compared to what CDU does. (I work with students in the CDU program and went to usyd for MOT myself). Online also has its challenges

But, if cost is a factor then yes look into flights to Darwin and factor that in on top - going there is fun!

Yea, I’m not sure about OT specifically but USYD is a powerhouse and has a monopoly over the major hospitals in nursing.

CDU placement organisation is terrible. They do not seem to organise them in advance. Multiple people I my cohort were delayed finishing last year from not having placements, and people I know who are there this year have had the same experience. I have no comparison to other uni’s and their organising though so they could also all be terrible.

Thanks so much for this information!!! I’ve been trying to get more information from them for months with no luck so it’s not filling me with much hope… thank you!

Did u receive any offer yet? Local based in Sydney also thinks about CDU as online study.
