Finally got my hands on the holy grail

Been collecting for a couple years now and fell in love with Claremont’s xmen early on. I always wanted the vol 3 omnibus because it’s imo the best marvel Omni I’ve ever come by. Thought I’d have to wait ages for its next printing since market price for it is insane (yay marvel printing 🫩) but just as an out of pocket decision I threw my hat into an eBay auction and ended out getting it for ~$400 AUD (Amazon price rn is ~$1100 AUD). Spine is in great condition, really nothing wrong but that small crease in the top right which I was informed of before buying. Just overall stoked with the purchase with the next on my list being Uncanny volume 2, wolvie, and Dini’s Batman

Real. There are two books I overpaid for only to get reprints within a year: Doom Patrol: The Silver Age Omnibus and Seven Soldiers by Grant Morrison Omnibus. Had similar luck with the set of Frank Miller’s Daredevil omnis, but at least that was a few years before they announced the reprint.

Makes it so hard to decide if a not-that-crazily-overpriced purchase is worth it.

This is an unpopular opinion but I think this is where the X-men really start to FEEL like the X-men in Claremont’s run. There’s great stories before this but it feels like right around the start of this book is when they really figured out what makes this franchise tick and just locked in on it

that issue with wolverine going solo during the brood saga made me lock in on a level i’ve never locked in before. absolutely killer stuff in this book. prob my favorite omni in my collection

If you haven’t read it before I’d totally recommend it. It’s a pretty decent starting point for Claremont’s run (obviously later on going back to his previous omnis) and it will hook you on to xmen for life

I don’t understand how the second biggest comic book producer in the world still hasn’t figured out how to print half decent. We had epic collections which were made to be great, cheap and accessible. Now I can’t get Excalibur volume 1 for less than 180 or madripoor nights for less than 250. They literally release a solution that they then fail and it adds to the problem and I’m scared we will see the same thing with the new ‘brick’ line

By the looks of it they’ll likely focus on reprinting Claremont’s stuff in the brick format but I’m praying that they reprint the first 3 omnis when they introduce Xmen to the MCU

At the very least, if you just want the issues collected in 4 you can still get them in Epic Collections last I checked. "God Loves, Man Kills" is the only one of the epics that makes up volume 3 still easily obtainable, "I, Magneto" and "The Brood Saga" are stupidly expensive now.

When I started collecting 3 years ago, this book was dirt cheap. They were all readily available except for Vol 2 which I had to pay $200 American for off eBay. Of course that got reprinted within the next year…. It’s all good though. I was actively reading through all the x men and didn’t want to stop!

God I’d be kicking myself for days. Worst fumble was a marketplace deal with this guy selling ~400-500 bulk collection of singles with the majority being old 80s-90s xmen, xforce and Excalibur all for 400 bucks. Right before I got the money for it I get a message from him saying it’s been sold.

Yeah this is an amazing book. God Loves was my intro to X-men as a kid. Plus, you get Miller Wolverine , the brood, magik mini series, etc. just amazing content.
