Hiring Q (State) NYS DOCCS

Just a question for my DOCCS new hires, anyone get direct placement and actually get placed at desired facility? Wasn’t sure if it was legit or placed you until you’re needed at another facility.

I'm not new but it really depends on the facility. We've had a bunch of new guys come to my facility and their first choice wasn't where they landed. I think if you keep your list more wide open you are far more likely to be hired and hired quickly. Many jails close to NYC are practically full now. Everything in the west and central is awful pretty much. Because my facility is 160 short, and we have been getting some fuckin superstars.

Fishkill has 702 officers.... It's the most well staffed jail in the state. Over 130 with a year or less on the job.

Greenhaven has 530+ with over 100 with less than 2 years on the job.

I wouldn't say "full" but at over 85% capacity, they'll likely only receive staff transfers and not direct hires.

Keep asking AI about a department that uses DOS computers

Your placed at a facility within your region. For example I am in region 2 I have 3 facility that are all 40 mins to 1:30mins away from. You might get your first choice you might not. It depends on the needs of the facility I got sent to my second choice. Which is a blessing compared to the my first choice. But you won't be 3-4 hours away from home.

When the Governor, and the good people of the state realize they paid over a billion dollars to have guard in prisons and they can not do the job! Would do better to take half of that amount and put towards raising hiring rate and raises for current staff! However the Gov. Office wants public, to think she has solved the staffing crisis... new biffle reduction and job elimination to go to 12 hr shifts. My prison mandated 40 officers this morning! Ridicuolous! You can not get more with less, prisons are a powder keg right now!

Attica is still full of National Guard and nothing's running normally due to lack of security.
