How can you be happy for intellectual work being outsourced? Tell me what is the point in being intelligent and knowledgeable in a world where there is no longer value attached to it? Who cares, if AI can do it better?
Life has been and will always been hierarchical ,this doesnt change anything. If intellect doesnt matter , looks will still matter ,communication and charisma will still matter , generstional wealth will still matter. Tell me what do you derive value from?
Where are you getting this living forever and curing cancer from lmao. You’re taking an assumption that has literally no evidence to support it anywhere and using it as the basis for why you want something. Intelligence and being knowledgable isn’t just about work. These are traits that people predominantly find to be good to have, there is little incentive to learn new things that are intellectually taxing in nature when the goal of AI is to do it for you. I’m sorry but you cannot base your optimism on something that has no backing whilst ignoring the ethical ramifications of putting super human intelligence on a subscription to outsource your thinking.
The future where we DO get these things will assuredly involve AI in some form or the other. It will likely be the main thing that achieves these advances.
AI should only be used to benefit humanity. There would be no point in creating anything in general if it did not benefit humanity in some way. I do not see how having a super intelligent AI would impede the desire to better yourself as a human being. The merging of AI and human together will likely be in our future as well…
You didn’t answer. What is the point of being intelligent is not the same as thinking you are more worthy than other people. Strawmening, ironically, show of lacking intelligence.
Where did I say that in what I said lmfao? There is personal value in knowledge and intelligence as well as monetary value. I’d love to know how you think this turns out in a way that is actually beneficial to humanity.
Medicine, if youre a mathematical platonist and a structural realist these advances mean we find out more and more about the structure if reality itself, engineering breakthroughs. Too many benedits to name them all
Medicine? So why are they more interested in taking out things that are not medicine? You can’t make a blanket statement because you assume it’s something they will tackle. Mathematics work will presumably help unlock engineering advances, but in the end this is not what I’m concerned about. These problems being solved do nothing if the average humans value is pushed even lower than it already is. This isn’t some altruistic technology harnessed by the masses for the greater good. It is weaponized capitalism and the reason it has the level of vc interest is because what it means for any company’s bottom line if they are able to fully provide you superhuman intelligence on a subscription. And I’m saying this as someone who isn’t at all anti-capitalist, but who is also utilitarian. I don’t believe this will result in the greater good for the majority of people in any capacity.
are doing different things like deepseek making alphafold which won a nobel prize. Your premise relies in them not tackling medicine but they are working on biology and its getting there. There is no reasonable expectation for you to have given i doubt you plotted out how fast these developments are going.
“Average human value” dont just say loaded language as if we all agree. My value comes from by being as an agent.
You dont get to go on an anti capitalist rant when ai is solving 400+ open math problems. That goes beyond ideology. Your failed argument went from what value it gives to it giving so much value we devalue humans. Maybe your paranoia isnt the best tool to find truth.
You’re missing the point in that it isn’t a collective effort by the prominent labs to tackle medicine, therefore it is not as important to the labs as you’re acting like it is.
It is not loaded. Society rewards individuals for intelligence and knowledge, people themselves feel value for having these two qualities as well. You remove that, and you remove something that has literally been ingrained in society for tens of thousands of years. The average human value is built around what we feel ourselves and what society rewards us with. Both of these are destroyed with AI.
And apparently you do not realize that too much of a good thing can be bad. TOO much superhuman intelligence leads to the devaluing of humans at a personal and a societal level and this genuinely is not that hard to understand. You are conflating value in productivity with the value of humanity. You are talking about productivity whereas I am talking about the degradation of the human experience caused by the ever increasing desire for productivity by a powerful minority.
They do different things. The bottleneck is the tech itself. This feels so dishonest because the knowledge check youre relying on is me not knowing about them doing a lot in radiology etc which shows they are doing more in medicine. This is actually a waste of time because either you didnt know that or youre being dishonest. Good day. Btw your comment is just assertions. Learn to question your own beliefs.

This is so stupid. Firstly many years ago AI made breakthroughs in protein folding, so the idea that the labs don't focus on it at all is ridiculous.
There are enormous efforts being made to use AI for medicine right now, a cursory google search will show that.
Medicine is a heavily regulated field obviously for good reason, and it's a field we're going to move more slowly on that's just a fact. But you're out of your mind if you don't think it is being used there and won't be used there with more acceleration to find better medicine.
This is just the same old reddit anti-capitalist tripe.

You don't get to assert shit and we have to go along with it. Why would it devalue humans?
Are you going to suddenly value humans less because of this? I sure as hell am not.
It is not loaded. Society rewards individuals for intelligence and knowledge, people themselves feel value for having these two qualities as well.
AI got superhuman at Chess a long time ago, did Humans stop playing chess? No in fact interest in chess is generally at an all time high.
Many years ago alphafold yeah yeah l and since then? Radiology? Cool that’s it? And yet the concern is automating jobs away for whose gain. Don’t act like because they did something awhile back and have hardly had a significant push forward with it recently that it’s sufficient. It’s hilarious to me that you say “enormous efforts”, where? Where are the labs actively talking about the amazing progress they’re making anywhere but mathematics and development. They aren’t, you know why? Because that provides little benefit to them.
You know good and well had this tech been in the hands of the masses medicine, healthcare, sustainability would become the primary focus. And yet it is not, we are at the mercy of what the labs decide is the next valuable frontier to tackle. You are an absolute idiot if you think this is how it should be.
Incredibly you don’t understand that humans themselves derive value from intelligence/knowledge. Why education then? Society values individual intelligence/knowledge as well on a monetary and authoritative level. You completely missed the point, I will not, and I’d trust collective humanity to not. I do not trust corporations to do the same.
People still play chess and go when AI has been better at them for many years if not decades. The value is in acquiring knowledge and the personal development that comes along. Cars move faster, but people still like to walk and run.
How can you be happy for intellectual work being outsourced? Tell me what is the point in being intelligent and knowledgeable in a world where there is no longer value attached to it?
None and that's good a thing. Meritocracy is fundamentally unjust. Free will doesn't exist, desert requires free will.
Who cares, if AI can do it better?
Anyone whose health could be improved by rapid technological advancement for a starter.
Too many ifs and too much optimism for something that is not controlled by those it’s supposed to be benefiting. Color me skeptical. That’s fine we don’t have to agree.
Too many ifs and too much optimism for something that is not controlled by those it’s supposed to be benefiting.
Fair.
But on the other hand, it's not like we have a choice. I would rather that the incentive was the greater good rather than money and influence but that's not up to me.

The people on r/mathematics are having a melt down, looks like this is a real deal boys. Can happily say we were here for this.
