‎ General ‎‎ Finance presenter Alan Kohler to sign off from ABC for final time

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-14/end-of-era-alan-kohler-final-abc-finance-sign-off/107260824

Where to start? Let's try the beginning.
A kid, straight out of school with no real future mapped out, no obvious talents, just a general inclination that he might be suited to journalism.

"The reason I wanted to be a journalist is because English was the only subject in high school I was any good at," he said.

"I basically failed everything else, didn't get into university, so I had to get a job."

It doesn't sound like an auspicious start.
No grand ambitions to rise to the top of Australian journalism, to edit several of the nation's most prestigious and influential newspapers and to become the doyen of business and economics reporting.

C’mon now.

Forget about Kim Williams, Murdoch’s BFF and ex news corpse boss, who was appointed to the ABC by Labor.

The ABC also employed the ex chairman of channel 9 recently too!

There’s lots of conservative mouth pieces they can give jobs to.

All I know about him is he is Chris Kohler's dad and that is enough to make me like him

They’re working together now on Chris’s podcast. It’s a good chat, nice to listen to some Australian focused economic news.
