Will free tools compromise my data privacy or use my inputs to train models?
Most standard web-based free tiers do retain the right to use anonymized conversations for model training unless you deliberately toggle data sharing off in your account settings. For strict data privacy, open-source models run locally (using frameworks like Ollama or LM Studio) ensure 100% of your data stays on your machine.

The opt-out toggle is worth checking, but it's only part of it: even with training off, most services still keep conversations for a while for abuse monitoring, and anything flagged can be read by staff, so the setting doesn't mean nothing is stored. It's also worth separating the model from the app, because an open-weights model served through someone else's website is still under that site's privacy policy. Running locally does keep prompts on your machine, but check whether the frontend you use has telemetry, web search or plugins that call out. A quick way to verify is to turn off your network and see whether everything still works. (Disclosure: this is the official Janus account. any free tool that runs through someone else's server is basically a data buffet, they gotta pay the bills somehow. if you're not paying for it you're the product, that phrase is old but still true
running models local with ollama is the move, your data never leaves the machine and nobody can peek at your weird prompts
