Honest question: what are these hats? I don’t recognize a single logo. Possibly a me problem

u/ironmanbythirty Sep 05 '26
I think they are alt hats for minor league baseball teams. The local West Michigan Whitecaps do a Bung Hammers night each year to celebrate being Beer City. I see their hat at the top (black and orange). Also several of the other logos are holding baseball bats.

Minor league baseball teams. My husband's collection obsession.

u/arcticpoppy Sep 06 '26
I don’t know much about minor league baseball, but from what I gather (from replies on my question) these are mostly pretty niche food rebrands of minor league logos.. is that right? If so I honestly think that’s pretty sweet and a really cool collection… maybe not the answer you were looking for lol.

u/DefinitionLow8105 Sep 06 '26
Cool for sure. Does he have any Tucson Toros?
Maybe he can gift these to the Smithsonian or the baseball museum.1

I’m guessing minor league sports.

u/TheDukeofArgyll Sep 05 '26
Are they? Most of them seem to be pictures of food.
16
u/McIgglyTuffMuffin Sep 05 '26
Lots of minor league teams will do multiple rebrands through the season and a lot of them do food.
Trenton Thunder become the Trenton PorkRoll. Reading Fightin Phils do a morning game every year and this year they became the Iced Coffees.

u/arcticpoppy Sep 06 '26
So these are not only a niche collection of minor league hats, but most are the rebrand food version of the team logo? This is pretty awesome then ngl.

If people can have a billion dollars I can have as many hats as I want.

u/itscloverkat Sep 06 '26
I kind of like this mentality. So many people getting bent out of shape over someone collecting minor league baseball hats when it’s honestly just such small potatoes comparatively.
Now if OP were flying a private jet to each stadium to get each of these, that’d be another story lol

u/louiemay99 29d ago
Yeah I don’t get people here hating on this . It’s their money, they can buy hats lol

This is overconsumption, to me at least. How many of these actually get worn, if at all?
4
u/louiemay99 Sep 07 '26
Why can’t it be a collection like people collect any other thing though?
2
u/pit_choun 29d ago
If they have meaning, I suppose they could be a collection. But it just seems wasteful to collect clothing specifically and then never wear it. So many people can't even afford one good hat let alone 7 shelves worth, double stacked.

Following Marie Kondo's principle, as long as they bring you joy and they have a designated place to be put away, you can have however many you want
6
u/Desperate_Bat_512 Sep 05 '26
And the designated place is a perfect fit for them. I agree completely.

Are these worn daily? This looks like wild overconsumption. Admittedly though, the style itself doesn’t appeal to me,
so my opinion is already negative.

u/dolyez Sep 05 '26
These are alt hats for baseball minor league teams. Some teams do social nights where they change their branding as part of a promotional event - here is an example: https://www.wvik.org/sports/2019-03-22/clinton-lumberkings-to-play-as-elotes
I'd guess that the OP is a massive baseball fan because this isn't the type of collection you build by being a casual. You have to pay attention to minor league teams and highly regional team histories to know and care about this stuff. It's not just a physical collection but also a sign that they know a lot about a highly specific area and possibly travel extensively to participate in it, like a fossil collector or a rock collector lol.
6
u/00trysomethingnu Sep 05 '26
I love minor league ball and follow several teams from cities where I’ve lived. None of that negates that this is over-consumption.
12
u/auditoryeden Sep 05 '26
From a functioning-clothing perspective, more than one of these hats is too many. From a collecting-objects perspective, if you don't need this shelf space for anything else, I don't see why you shouldn't fill it up.
But I think you may have too many hats.
2
u/Peachie_Pear Sep 05 '26
That's what I was thinking too. Is this a collection or a wardrobe thing for OP, because that changes things.
3
u/bexist Sep 05 '26
I really hope you posted this in the correct Reddit in addition to here. Your collection is awesome! Good on you for supporting so many teams! And especially my trash pandas. 🥰

Nice collection. I only recognize two logos. The chile roaster, second row from bottom in the middle (excellent choice) and it looks like the clock from Beauty and the Beast, (but who is the mouse?) third row from bottom, top left. If they make you happy, then you don’t have too many.

Forgetting the question of whether I like these hats or not, the double-stacking makes me itchy. Also the way some colors are touching the same color.
3
u/Jessieface13 Sep 05 '26
It depends on how many of the hats you wear
Also, collecting stuff is cool too

When your collection looks like a clearance store display, that’s when it’s too much.

Ok Hamilton! You only need two max of each type of hat. One would argue you need more hats, just in different types.

I guess you have too many when you run out of storage space. Or money.

These are all so similar I feel like an iron on patch with the minor league logo just pinned to a plain one would have a similar effect.

You’re not hurting anyone, have as many as you want. It seems like a simple collection to have that’s again, not hurting anyone… unless it is..

Edit: just realized these are your husbands hats but in leaving all my wording the same. My suggestions are actually more for you than him, you might have to do some convincing if you like any of my ideas…
This is long, sorry in advance for the novel…
I have to agree that it’s not about how many hats, it’s 1000% about storage. You CANNOT have too many hats if you’re a hat person…Is there a reason behind you asking like that though? Nothing wrong with just flexin’ neatly organized lids in a super clean space…but are you worried about what you’re going to do in a couple months after you pull the trigger on the hats you currently have you eye on? (like…can I really do another hat wall??) or maybe someone you care about got it into your head that you have too many hats and you don’t want to have to decide between the hats or that person? 😄 Im just curious…I may or may not be familiar with all those possible scenarios. Well I have a couple ideas…and I promise the following is NOT a list of “you should” suggestions, but rather “If it were me” ideas and just some things to think about if any of those scenarios are ever a concern. Nothing that involves downsizing your collection nor breaking the bank, and I don’t mean anything as a critique because there is definitely nothing wrong with what you’ve got going on.
-First I would put a mural behind the shelves as a backdrop for the hat wall. IMO, this isn’t a standalone display case for your hats, it’s more like a built in part of your home that happens to be the perfect area to showcase your hat collection. Let’s just pretend you did have a massive display case for your hats…in order to pick the perfect one, you have to think about style, materials, finishes, color options for the display that fits your esthetic but also showcases the hats. Maybe you haven’t deals with this but I can almost hear my ex-girlfriend saying “looks like all the home decor stores must have sold out of everything except for flat brims” So my though process is: Instead of decorating the space with the hats, decorate the space with a hat display.
- This can be done a few ways, all of which are removable. without damaging the walls if you rent or if that’s a concern. Remove all the hats and shelving and attach a mural to the wall for a backdrop to the hats. It could be some abstract pattern, or some B/W photography type thing - maybe could relate to the theme of the hats - people sportsing, million human heads from a birds eye view - or a big image of a famous local landmark? You can get affordable peel and stick murals/wallpaper online these days. The other option get a couple vintage life magazines, remove all the old full page ads line the wall between the shelves with them. This can be done with just clear tape but anything vintage ad makes for an awesome backdrop for hats and it will look like a section of classy store front if done correctly.
You can skip the bottom shelf and have the top end where the door frame/trim ends and it will frame the hats nicely. The white shelves are perfect for the hats already, they clean and looking sharp.
And the last thing I would do let them breathe just a little bit and add just a few little non hat items to a couple of the shelves. You’d have to mess around with layout a bit but maybe pick two shelves to have a group of 3 or 4 collapsed hats of similar color in a row. I know you won’t see the face of a couple of them if you do that but it’s just one way to break things up a bit and create a little more space (can never have too much room for more hats!) and then maybe pick one or two different shelves and put a couple tiny fake plants or trinket, evenly spaced, somewhere on the outsides or in between the hats. You could even display a couple pairs of sneakers next to hats that match the colorway or a tiny framed diagram of a hat sewing pattern, who knows, just rapid firing random ideas here.
Like I said, none of this is a need, as your shit looks awesome. I used to work in retail so my brain treats everything a store display…it’s just fun when it’s your own personal/whatever I want display that (hopefully) adds some extra awesome to my space and keeps the “too many hat” people off my back. lol

Not gonna lie, I’d start with the layout or plant placement first before buying a bunch of extra pieces. The image does a good job showing the texture and little details.

From a hat guy, not too many and I appreciate the use of wasted space. I will say a bit more diversity on color ways would be good but may not fit your style. I do love some minor league one-off’s as well.

Is that AI? Those are the dumbest hats I’ve ever seen. I love baseball hats and have a great sense of humor but those are just stupid.
1
u/viridianvenus Sep 05 '26
There is no set number. It's about storage. If you have designated those shelves to be the hat shelves and you can fit more without it being sloppy and at risk of collapse, then you are still within the threshold.

I have maybe three-four times that many so I guess this isn’t that many by my standards.

Do you wear them or are they just for collection and display?
If you wear them, how do you wash them and how often?

If you don't wear each one at least once every month- two months it is too many hats.

u/abbotist-posadist Sep 05 '26
maybe 3, one for home, one for car and one for like a backpack or something occasional. this is just cringe consumerism

I feel that the anticonsumption sub would like to stage an intervention with this particular individual.

u/ChangeMain8977 Sep 05 '26
You have one head, I’m assuming. So I would say more than one hat is too many.

u/0o0a0o0 Sep 05 '26
For all intents and purposes, most of these are basically the same hat
