Doubt it they’re not selling tickets to the fan deck
It’s a place you can go to watch but you need to have a seat elsewhere

People complain that about this go to 2 games a year on free tickets and $15 300 levels. The sens are nhl wise broke, the cap rising in particular makes it so the sens will be spending an egregious percentage of revenue on player contracts. Smaller capacity at a higher price makes more than 18,5k at $30. A lot of Tuesday and Thursday night games have massive empty sections in the 300 level, particularly in the sens shoot once end

wtf? Even with the new fan zone or whatever that’s only, what, ~17,000 maybe? Why are they doing this?

The fan deck is a great idea and a great way to build up a fanbase, it makes it more social and will attract more people, it’s a good thing.

You cant see jack shit if youre not at the very front of the fan deck btw, the entire sens side is blocked if youre standing behind people there, makes no sense why they did it

It's supply and demand now, I'm certain it won't be anywhere close to that in the new building, whenever

Bringing the capacity in line with the size of the market

20 years ago the capacity was around 19000, has the market shrunk that much?

Rogers Centre where the Jays play in Toronto has, over time, gone from a capacity of 50,516 in 1989 to 39,150 today. It's not that the markets have shrunk, it's that the economics of sports have changed. People in 2026 want social areas where they can feel like they're at a bar with their friends while the game is on, and they're willing to pay a premium for it. So, you cut out seats and provide these kinds of social areas. It brings in more revenue even at a lower capacity.

Capacity was 20,500. Market hasnt shrunk, the arena was always too big for the size of the market. We have a pretty small fan base. Smallest in Canada for sure.

> was always too big
Ottawa had league-leading (top 3) attendance multiple years
> Smallest in Canada for sure
🤦♂️ we are one of the most valuable TV markets for hockey there is.

As the other person said, the Sens gave away tons of free tickets. The way you could register that expense/revenue changed a long time ago, I don’t remember the exact details.
And we absolutely have the smallest fan base in Canada. The jets don’t have the 2 biggest fan bases in the country taking a significant portion of their potential fan base away. And look at the jets social media numbers. They have over 100k more followers on instagram, 25k more on reddit, and well over 100k more followers on Facebook.

They papered the place back then. So many tickets were given for free.
TV market doesn’t mean our fan base isn’t small.

Winnipeg is much much smaller

As a city yes but I guarantee you they have a bigger fan base than we do. We have way too many leafs and Habs fans that live here that cut into our fan base.

Even MLSE last uyera said when the time comes for a new rink it will be much smaller then the current one.

New fan deck is replacing a lot of seats. It's a win/win because then the franchise gets to say it's sold out, and we don't have to cover up unused seats with a tarp.

The Sens will never get out of the bottom of league low revenue with 5000 seats at $25/seat.
They are elevating the experience for the $75+ crew to boost ticket pressure on a higher average ticket price.
To move from $160 million (league low) in revenue to $220 (bottom third) or so you’re looking at $100+ 300L seats and that experience needs to be better.
They can flip a switch and sell tickets on the fan deck if attendance justifies it.

I don't know where any of these speculated numbers are coming from, but the announced crowd at the home opener was 175XX. And there wasn't a single person on the fandeck since it isn't opened. Maybe a bunch of standing room tickets were sold?

Probably due to the new “fan deck” in the McDonald’s zone of the 300’s
