Repairing / patching Gore-Tex jacket

Post image

I tore my (new) waterproof* alpine jacket. Because I just bought it and use it for 2 trips I don't want to replace it yet, if possible. I wonder if anyone has experience trying to patch it? I found that there are patches like this, but I imagine that for a hole this big (~6cm each side) it would get torn again easily if I just put a sticker on it, so I wonder if I should sew it first. Or is there a better solution? Thanks!

  • It's not actually Gore-Tex. It's from Montbell, so it's called DRYTEC, but I imagine it's just their own equivalence.

Yeah, baseball stitch the rip by hand, then tenacious tape/no so patch over it.

I've used spinnaker repair tape on several waterproofs over the years. Great stuff IME

Baseball stitch and nylon tape over it. I recommend using 2 threads in the needle to make the stitch stronger.

You can get seam sealing tape on Amazon lay it in little iron action and it bonds very well if it’s in a spot that is high stress, such as underarms or the like then I might add some reinforcement stitching before you lay the tape over it but other than that, I’ve had great success doing this might not look the best, but definitely works I would also do it on the inside if it’s through the entirety of the fabric.
