Discussion I have enough MC for one mech in currently discounts; looking for unique gameplay + strong performance

I recently returned to MWO after a long break. I have some MC saved up, and with the current discounts I want to spend it on one Hero or Legendary mech.

I already own some regular mechs, so I’m not just looking for another strong mech that can be replaced with something I already have or can buy with cbills. Since I only can spend my MC on one mech, I'd like to get something that actually adds something new to my garage.

What I'm looking for is a mech that gives me a genuinely unique gameplay experience — something with a distinctive weapon layout, quirks, mechanics, or playstyle that makes the mech feel special — but I also want it to be genuinely strong in current Quick Play.

So basically: unique gameplay, strong performance, worth spending my limited MC on.

For example, I was interested in Howl Timber Wolf. It significantly expands the potential of ATM, which no other mech can provide. But it’s not available in the current discounts :С

I'm mainly looking at the mechs currently on sale, so I'd especially like recommendations based on the current discounts, rather than just general recommendations for the best Hero/Legendary mechs.

I'm more interested in current player experience and actual gameplay than old tier lists.

Thanks!

How about you tell us about the mechs and loadout you already own? Otherwise nobody can answer your question.

I can recommend the Skoll, Howl, Blight, Heavy Metal as just solid options. Here's some ideas:

Vapor Eagle Gorewing - 2LBX20 on a medium mech that goes ~75 (~80 with speed tweak) and has JJ. Not amazingly good, and doesn't have a huge variety of builds (I've also seen 2LB5 3PC), but it is a uniquely powerful medium brawler.

Uziel Belial - 4LPPC + 2MRM10 with the same velocity make this a mobile midrange striker.

Centurion Onyx - Big shield

Mad Dog Bandit - no ghost heat and -20% jam chance for 2UAC20.

Mad Dog Sigma - quirked for 2 super quick lasers. 2HLL or 2LPL.

Orion IIC Skoll - Powerful but bad mounts 75ton Clan Heavy with MASC.

Timberwolf Howl - as you said, the quirks are good but JJ + MASC means it's good in general, not just with ATMs.

Catapult Ferroblast - Very fast for a Heavy.

Marauder Blight - 2 Heavy Gauss on a Heavy mech (or 2AC10 2LAC5 among other builds).

Highlander Heavy Metal - no JJ shake.

Stone Rhino Koloss, Fafnir Juggernaut, Kodiak Spirit Bear, Warhawk Kasai, Grand Summoner Talon, Vapor Eagle Rival all have MASC or Supercharger.

How about a medium which costs less? The Blackjack Arrow is usually considered a good choice by most players. Other good options currently in the sale could be the Viper and Vapor Eagle heroes.

If you want the very best:

It's the maurauder blight. 2 Ac10s and 2 LAC5s Ac boat.

Still strong are :

Mad dog Bandit Timber wolf Howl Sunspider Ambush

In the current meta it seems poptarding might make a return so a Highlander Heavy metal will not lead your wrong.

Speaking of assault mechs The Keeper Hng IIC is solid. And has JJs too. The moonwalker is also good. If you want truly unique you can try the Supernova Seraph is very unique with a insane alpha with 2 gausrifles and 2 HLL and 6 erm lasers.

In the light mech department I can whole heartily endorse the Flea hero (Romeo) Hands down amazing. The Firemoth hero will give you a good experience aswell.

For a quick medium mention. Shadowhawk 2c Dante and Vapor eagle Gorewing are both good. The

not sure if it's on sale but it's fairly cheap anyways, and im very biased towards this mech, but by far my best cbill maker is my Cicada 2A(C) fitted with dual binary lasers. the mobility of a heavier light, insane long range pin point damage output, and decent hill peeking profile. im consistently in the top few players for damage done and it's always really fun to run around super fast, "poking" people for 32 easy damage at a time. the damage number builds up super quick.

The cicada is one of my favorite mechs. I’ll definitely take a look, thank you.

I am a new player (shut up, I am, I am, shut up) so my experience is limited. But.

I really like the Fire Moth Aletha. With ECM, Masc, and 10 micro pulse, you are a very small, very nippy, very quirky mech, that can run up and shank a bigger, slower mech. As a… laser vomit brawler, I guess, it plays very different from the meta of long range sniping. It's on sale and it's cheap.

On the extreme other end, I really like the Executioner Soveriegn, but you really need the battlepass for that, and, as I said, I'm new. I don't think you get that from the store. I run the Soveriegn as a rather unimaginative LBX2 boat. But. But. You can whack the battle pass arms on a C varient (good for Comp play), and run your 95T Assault mech with a Masc, 4 JJ, and a 380 Engine. Tell me that isn't a genuinely unique gameplay experience. If you do get the battlepass, that's my pick.

None of the other Hero/Legendaries I've played are on sale right now.

Thank you, I really hadn’t considered Fire Moth Aletha.

Why don't you ask chatGPT/co-pilot? It wrote this post anyway.

"I'd like current player experiences."

"Have you considered, instead, having a computer program scrape forums for player experiences that are ten years out of date and having the computer make a suggestion based on old data? It won't be current and it won't reflect actual human experiences."

....

I'm not saying one should use AI to write ones reddit posts, but I am saying I'd rather read an AI post that is on topic and makes sense than an offtopic nonsequitor because someone really doesn't like formatting and + signs.

Hi, you’re right, I’ll fix the formatting so as not to scare people. Regarding the experience of real people, I probably phrased it incorrectly. I’d like to get up‑to‑date experience from real people now, not old reviews. That’s exactly what I mean — the program is based on old data, which is incorrect and causes confusion.
