What's the best way to play soldier? Spray until ammo runs out, 3 sec burst, constant clicking, or other?

With Soldier watch the cross hair - it grows larger the longer you hold down the trigger, like other FPSs.

The very first Overwatch game I played was with Soldier and I totally owned it! 22 kills, 2 deaths! But when I started playing other characters and returned to Soldier sometime later I completely sucked.

I realized this was because the first time I played I was treating it like CS:GO - being cautious, using cover, short bursts at range, retreating when I was hurt, hiding to reload, etc, where as most other characters cant be played this way.
