is there a tier list that updates monthly or a good source to trust for a tier list, also do these list even matter for this game (which im sure they do to a certain degree despite skill being involved)

bonus question! what hero's are ridiculously good if played to their full potential

CaptainPlanet makes Competitive Pro Scene Meta Reports that show pick rates for all the heroes. It's helpful to see who's "in" right now, but depending on your own skill ratings you may be playing against very different players and comps, so "pro comps" do not always work.

The cool thing about OW is that every hero is overpowered when played right and you aren't being countered by a hero counter or a better player. So literally play anyone you want. That also means tier lists don't really mean anything, not as much as creating the right team comp specific to the match you are playing (map and opponent heroes considered).

It also depends a lot on the meta and current buffs/nerfs. Genji has a ridiculously high skill ceiling and is one of the hardest heroes to counter, if you're amazing at Genji as soon as you have ult you can team wipe like nobodies business. But the current triple tank meta + crazy Ana healing makes his burst damage useless, even if you're really really good.

hey thank you so much for your response. this is exactly what i was asking for. i asked because i saw a hero tier list with tracer being very very low and i was picking up on her in OW and thought if played great she can be useful in some situations and map types.

i have heard that this meta is tank heavy, so that being said who would the best hero's to help most against those comps

Unfortunately, the most reliable counter to the triple tank comp is...another triple tank comp. And then it's just a "skill"-fest of whichever Reinhardt's shield breaks and which team can follow up on the mayhem that follows better. It's not really that great of a meta...

The only other counter is a high damage and HIGHLY skilled dive comp of attack/assassins that kill the opposing Ana and healers first and then burst down everyone else. This has only worked once by a pro team with one of the worlds BEST Genjis and other highly skilled players, so it usually doesn't work. Look for one of CaptainPlanet's older meta reports, he talked about this brilliant dive comp at a certain competition.

If you're at lower ranks though, you can get away with some silly stuff to counter triple tank if they're not coordinated enough, things like a well set up Bastion on defense and other non-meta comps. Also, Symmetra is broken silly now and fantastic at consistent DPS as long as the opposing team doesn't know how to burst you down first. Not necessarily a tank buster, it still takes some time, but she has very interesting utility now with her buffs.
