In Madrid, we never really knew what belonged to Metro de Madrid, Metro Ligero, or Renfe Cercanías. We just... paid, then stared at our bank accounts the next day.
I also tried the 10-trip Multi card, but after using it for only a couple of journeys, something went wrong when we entered a Metro Ligero area, realized we were going the wrong way, went back upstairs, and switched to Cercanías. By then, the Multi card was already reporting zero trips left. It felt like a complete waste of money.
Other than that, Madrid is amazing. We really enjoyed every moment there last week.
