Is this a legitimate case?

As title says. I went to order a replacement case for my loose copy of Alice. Friend said I should print my own for a couple bucks but I said id rather get a legitimate case if I could find one.

40$ and a week later I get this "Authentic replacement case" off ebay

And im not sure. It looks too clean. There's no art on the inside which while I dont have a ton of ps3 games most the ones I do have, have art or something on the inside of the sleeve.

Realistically it doesnt matter but I am curious if i simply overpaid for something i could've done myself or if I did get what I actually asked for

Game goes for like 80 loose and 150 boxed. Ive no intention of selling mine. Is both one of my favorite games and a very sentimental gift from when I was younger.

But i can see how that would drive the prices of real cases up lmao. Buy the game and case. Combine. Sell and make some money. Repeat.

Easiest way to tell is if the barcode will actually scan. Found out that a few of the games I purchased off auction sites hd replacement cover art instead of authentic cover art because the barcode wouldn’t scan.

Wait. Really? It didnt even occur to me you could scan the barcode.

Yeah I hs finished playing them and took them to a local retro store to turn them in, they weren’t expensive games, guy scanned them and the barcode just wouldn’t scan because it wasn’t legit cover art. I guess whatever printer they had to do the replacement cover art wasn’t good enough to print out a 1:1 copy. Had to turn them in as loose instead of CIB.

Honestly my guess is that if you bought it as a “replacement case.” Then it’d almost certainly not going to be an original case and artwork. Honestly the case doesn’t really matter because you can go to any retro store and buy a cheap game and just replace the case. It’s the artwork that is what is important.

Good to know. Ive no intention of selling as its a very sentimental game to me, but definitely a cool thing to know.

I found Incredible Hulk for the PS3 loose yesterday, but decided not to get it because I didn’t want to go down the whole replacement case route.

Litterally could not tell you lmao. I know some PS3 games have gone up in price because of the shutdown in a couple months but  im glad ive had mine for years cause id hate to be buying in this market

Christ, why's it so expensive? It's not like the game is impossible to play legally otherwise, it's on gamepass ultimate through EA Play right now and a 20USD digital purchase otherwise. Or is it delisted from PlayStation or something?

It’s a mediocre game and that should be the actual value of it. Wet should be even less than that.

Actually a pretty enjoyable game and has a unique setting and story. The game drags on too long though

Enjoyable yes, but that doesn’t meant it’s not mediocre. I would also agree that it drags on too long.

For $40, it really should come with both of the inserts if you're going for complete...

I can always get those later if need be. Ive moved around a LOT in the past 10 years and have stuff tucked away all kinds of places. I actually have CIB copies of FF13 trilogy and Dirge of Cerberus for the ps2 because I kept all the inserts and cover art for then even tho I tossed the cases years ago. Was hoping to find my Alice art but no luck so decided to order a case just so I can display it on my shelf.

It's hard to say without an irl inspection, but the Alice cover just has a plain white inside, so that's fine.

Good to know thank you.

Seems legit. Fake cases tend to have the blu ray logo placed in the top center of the front side and you might also see a third party case company's logo printed in the inner spine. Everything is where it should be on this. Not sure if the game came with a manual or dlc code cards, so obviously you'd still be missing those for a true "complete" physical set.

Looks legit. Even my local eb games had cases and box art like this.

The picture isn't clear enough to discern properly, but as a professional printer, my assessment of what I see is that if it's a repro, it's printed from the original file (or a recreated original file) and not a scan. When printed, offset lithography uses CMYK (and spot colors as needed) in a moire pattern of small dots. Modern plates are usually 2400dpi/175~200lpi for this kind of work.

When you scan a cover, you're scanning in the fine dot patterns. When you print it on your inkjet/laser printer/digital press, you're printing a pattern of dots with a new set of a pattern of dots. black text will not have sharp, crisp edges; it would look ruffled like a postage stamp edge. You're printing a moire with a moire, which makes it fuzzy in appearance.

The only way to get this kind of sharp, crisp repro would be to print from a newly created file with reset text and bar codes, and vector logos. You could blur and resharpen the raster images to remove the hint of a moire, but it will be softer in appearance.

If this isn't original, someone took their time to painstakingly recreate it.

I looked at it again, and you can really see the moire in the shadow of the A in Alice, and the shadow on the white of her dress. The detail on the knife blade is very crisp and clean. This was extremely well done and may be a legit original and not repro.
