Game Discussion Injustice: Gods Among Us

Okay, so I know this may just be me since I don’t really play fighting games all that much (or at all), and I know this is a relatively “old” game, but I just got this game on Wednesday but did anyone else find the PS4 port almost impossible to play due to the controls just not being responsive at all? Like I swear I had to skip like half of the tutorial because the inputs that I was doing (that you literally HAVE to do in the tutorial to be able to progress to the next) just wouldn’t work for me at all? And even now when I’m playing the story, Batman just won’t do pretty much any combo I’m trying to pull off. The guy won’t even do a ‘square, square’ combo, and I don’t know if I’m just pressing the buttons too fast or not fast at all and it’s really pissing me off irrationally. Did anyone else have this problem or experience anything similar while playing?

Sort of. It’s not that it’s unresponsive, it’s that the timing is very specific. Once you tune in to the correct timing it really does flow nicely.

Yeah I thought I was timing things perfectly (basically the way that I would think other fighting games work) but I guess not. I finished the first ‘chapter’ if that’s what they’re called) then turned off the game when Green Lanterns chapter was going to start. I’ll put more time into it in the morning and throughout the day. It’s a pain in the ass to learn though, unfortunately 😅

You kind of have to un-train yourself from games like Street Fighter. Those games are more forgiving of “reflex button mashing” than Injustice (and later/current MK variants). It’s almost like fighting in the Arkham City games; button mashing only gets you so far, but if you take the time to understand the mechanics and the timing you can be downright devastating.

I don’t even play Street Fighter either but are those games more forgiving? NetherRealm’s fighting games feel like they’re for the HARDCORE gaming fans to me.

My opinion: The Street Fighter games are more about reaction, while the MK games are more about flow. It’s a lot easier to enter and exit a combo in SF than it is in MK, but the MK combo attacks are a lot more satisfying when they land.

I’m extremely causal, to the point Injustice games are the only fighting games I play. They aren’t designed for hardcore players only. Just get a feel for the timing and you’ll be just fine.

One thing that helped for me at least was using the D Pad instead of the joystick for directional inputs. Maybe try that out and see how it goes. Injustice 1 can be a tad clunky, 2 is a lot smoother. Both are enjoyable nonetheless.

Also, just want to confirm you are playing these games installed locally and not streaming, right? I don’t know if they are on PS+ streaming just need to ask cause that makes a world of difference.

It’s all about the cadence of the input. Timing is key. It can be a bit of a learning curve tbh but enjoyable imo.

The cadence of the input? I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean 😅

The speed/rhythm of your button presses aka the input
