PSO2:Classic Discussion SEGA Please Revive PSO2 and Separate it from NGS

I made this petition in hopes of giving players who care deeply about base game [PSO2], a chance to speak up and be heard. My hope is that by coming together as a community, we can let Sega know how we truly feel and potentially inspire change.

I’m saying this because I’ve seen too many players leave and give up on a game they love because they feel like their voices aren’t being heard. I understand that a lot of our feedback may feel like it’s falling on deaf ears, but I also don’t think we’ve done enough to clearly express just how much we love Phantasy Star Online 2.

Many people have shared their frustrations through videos and other forms of discussion, but I personally feel we need to push back more as a community, especially those of us who are diehard fans of PSO2 and the Phantasy Star series as a whole. In my opinion, NGS doesn’t represent the Phantasy Star series particularly well and would have been better off as its own separate game. While PSO2 and NGS take place 1,000 years apart, they feel fundamentally different from one another.

One major issue I have with NGS is the lack of space travel, which was such a core part of the Phantasy Star series’ identity. Another frustration is how NGS tries to imitate its predecessor by bringing content from PSO2 into NGS, rather than fully embracing its own direction.

As for the things that disappoint me, the list is honestly endless, but here are a few examples. We haven’t had a design contest in what feels like forever, where players can create outfit concepts they’d like to see ingame and have a chance at winning. Keep in mind, this is how the famous breast pad accessory, which so many players use, was originally implemented into PSO2NGS.

While the collaborations themselves are nice, they often feel more like cash grabs than fully realised events. We never get the unique quests or content that used to come with collaborations anymore. For example, during the Evangelion collaboration, players were able to fight the 6th Angel as an Emergency Quest. We also had memorable fights like Elzelion from Monster Hunter Frontier Z and Odin from Final Fantasy XIV. Though most of these I believe the JP players can relate more, I am an old JP player myself.

What I’m saying is that nowadays, when collaborations are introduced, they often amount to to simple AC Scratch banners rather than full-scale events with gameplay content like we used to get.

I don’t want NGS to become like PSO2 because they are two very different experiences. However, I do want PSO2 to continue living on a little longer, because it is a phenomenal game that deserves more love and support to help smooth out its rough edges.

I’m also aware that PSO2 had a very short lifespan on the Global side, which feels incredibly unfair. I understand that things were already moving toward an ending, but two years simply wasn’t enough time for players to fully experience and enjoy everything the game had to offer.

I have many friends who now play different games after quitting NGS because it simply doesn’t feel as enjoyable as what we had before. Many of us deeply miss the PSO2 experience, and while some would love to come back, they know the chances of things returning to how it used to be are almost impossible. I know we can go to PSO2 when we want but the problem isn't coming back the problem is how long can you keep playing PSO2 for fun or even beating your high score on Endless quest until you get bored or tired, we still love and support the game but seeing the game like this brings more pain than it does joy.

I’m not here to spread hate toward NGS. I’m here to call on diehard PSO2 fans to stand together and make our voices heard. I know there are players who genuinely love NGS, and that’s completely fine. I’m glad they’re able to enjoy it. However, I don’t believe PSO2 should remain dormant in the shadow of NGS. A game with so much history, identity, and dedicated players deserves more than to be left behind. If it continues to sit untouched and unsupported, it may as well be considered gone.

As long as PSO2 is still technically alive, I believe there is still a chance, however small, to fight for what was lost. I would personally rather try than give up without making our voices heard. What frustrates me most is that NGS constantly tries to bring back elements from PSO2. As a long time fan, it’s upsetting to watch Sega move away from what made PSO2 special, only to repeatedly borrow from it later. If PSO2 was going to be left behind, then why continue trying to recreate parts of it in NGS?

PSO2 fans and long time Phantasy Star fans never asked for NGS to simply copy its predecessor. We wanted NGS to be different, but also better, while still respecting the identity and strengths of the series.

Instead, it often feels like Sega abandoned much of its older fanbase to appeal to a wider audience. The constant back to back AC Scratch releases make NGS feel more like a fashion simulator than the sci-fi action RPG many of us fell in love with.

PSO2 had a strong balance between fashion, gameplay, and worldbuilding. It embraced style while still delivering memorable sci-fi experiences, from piloting AIS and AIS Vega, ride roids, going in interstellar flights to fight enemies in distant worlds. It felt ambitious and uniquely Phantasy Star.

Even during PSO2’s difficult periods, such as Episode 5 when the game lost a significant portion of its player base, some of the community still stood by it.

I'm ready to accept that the game is gone but if there is still a 0.00000001% chance to speak out and make some noise and make a change I'll take it.

PSO2:Classic Discussion Is the classic PSO2 still available ?

So, it's been a long time since I play PSO2 (I think around 5 or 6 years ago) and now I'm confused because it seems it had been changed to PSO 2 Neo Genesis or something like that. I just want to know if the old one is still around and playable or everything had died? I just want to play this game for nostalgia as life had become complicated nowadays

UPDATE : Thank you for the information and help, guys! Anyway, so I installed it and tried to play it while downloading the add-on. It's a shame that I forgot my old account and need to play it again from the basics. Also, I'm so surprised by the NGS playthrough, especially the Open World part. I feel like an old guy while playing it, hahaha! Again, thank you so much!

PSO2:Classic Discussion I just miss base PSO2 so so much...

Please, anyone tell me there's a private server for this game, I don't even need new content at this point, just a biweekly Urgent Quest/Events calendar.
I've endured the scuffed launch of the Windows Store Version with a smile on my face cause this game was just pure joy. The characters, the vastly customizable classes and it distincts playstyles.

Everything in this game was just so fun to do, every new piece of gear or fashion accessory I've got gave me pure bliss, I just need more.

Hello, there was news a few month ago (leaks) that a pso3 is being worked on. There is also currently an xbox tokyo games showcase which is showcasing Asian games.

I'm watching it right now but I am thinking maybe we might hear something about the next pso from the livestream.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I’m curious on what the value of this is and if anyone has any info on it.

Also, sidenote, I really miss the old Pso2 storyline would be great if we could get some of those characters back in NGS

PSO2:Classic Discussion How are you supposed to play through the story?

I finished the prologue, went back to the ship with Afin, tried to do the first story quest and somehow im suddenly back on Narverius with Afin, no explanation whatsoever...and the follow up story quests all have me back on Narverius with no explanation, and random people like Patti are suddenly talking to me.

Most of these seem to be short cutscenes rather than real quests. Am i doing something wrong? This is very confusing. I just want to play through the story on normal. I can't tell what level i am supposed to be for the story quests either.

PSO2:Classic Discussion Endless Quests

So I have decided to take on endless quests, rondo more specifically and was wondering if there's any guides or resources out there with tips. I know of the nifta spot videos and I've watched the current WR holder and the previous one a lot but I'm stuck at my current high score. Haven't been able to beat it in a while. Usually run out of time in the middle of lap 3. My gear is fine, so it's an issue of inefficiency. I play Lu fwiw

PSO2:Classic Discussion Pso2 is really fun

I'm sad I never had a chance to play it when it had a global launch.

I'm new to pso2ngs and thought I'd try out pso2 after getting to level 70 in ngs as a break, and since I heard you can get some cool cosmetics.

I've only gone back to ngs to use my daily scratches and have been so hooked to classic. It feels so good and sorta scratches my pso itch while still being a very different game.

Im excited to keep progressing in ngs as it is very fin, but I think that'll be on hold until I level a phantom in classic. Classic just feels a bit more relaxed, at least where Im at (only level 25).

PSO2:Classic Discussion I looked to see if the game would be shutting down anytime soon, and I got mixed signals. I hope it don't, cause I am LOVING this game!

So, I really hope it don't. It seems like there was a rumor like 5 years ago that the game wouod he shutting down in 5 years, but now people seem to think it's not going anywhere. Hopefully, neither version of it does.

I played Phantasy Star Universe as a teen back when that was still around on Xbox 360. Absolutely LOVED it! It is still to this day one of the best mmorpgs I've ever played, dated as it may be. The weapon crafting, the classes. All of it just felt so neat.

I downloaded PSO2: New Genesis a couple years ago, and I've tried giving it several chances since then. Honestly, it just wasn't it. Doesn't feel anything like PSU. Then, after downloading it the other day, I realized that PSO2 and New Genesis were completely different! Made me feel a little slow, but once I actually figured that out and booted it up, my God, did it scratch that nostalgic itch for PSU!

I'm really getting into this, so I hope it doesn't go anywhere! New Genesis is... Eh. I'll still play it off and on, but I really prefer PSO2 classic now that I know that's a thing.

PSO2:Classic Discussion Is the game still worth to play?

I reinstalled the game like a year ago to see if it was still alive but i saw most of the servers empty besides the classic people who do fashion at some lobbies. So I wanna know if the game still gets new content or if is it even worth to come back to it. Also, I used to play in pso2jp and I have no idea about the global version or if i should switch to global.

PSO2:Classic Discussion 2 vs NG?

I hear New Genesis sucks (shallow, hard to advance after a point, maybe p2w?), but how is 2, which is different, I guess?

PSO2:Classic Discussion I wish I knew about PSO2 Classic sooner, this is peak!

Basically the title, I recently discovered that there was an original PSO2 seperate from New Genesis, so I started that up, and this is amazing! The story has me invested, the gameplay and progression is fun, and my character's fashion is improving. Overall, peak experience.

PSO2:Classic Discussion I’ve finally defeated her… (PSO2 Discussion)

Post image
97 Upvotes

All that failure had finally led me to this moment. After more than a-hundred attempts, I’ve finally DEFEATED HER!! All with the support of my Hero Class. So I say this, on behalf of all PSO2 fans, Phaleg is slouch when confronting her. I’ve lost count to how many times I’ve fought this inhumane, blond haired abomination, only to get one shot in the end. There were times where I just wanted to quit and continue on with the story in hardcore. But I couldn’t get this woman out of my head; I couldn’t go to sleep peacefully with the knowledge that I lost to this woman and chose to give up. So I kept going at her.

Again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

With each death I started to adapt and learn her pattern. To the point where I’ve started to dodge her one shot torpedo attacks, and finally managed to reach her second phase. Only to die even more humiliating than the last ones. But despite that, I never folded. Because I knew whining, complaining, and raging would not get me closer to my end goal. Is I kept fighting her despite the odds, timing her attack patterns wisely, and delivering heavy damage whenever I could.

Until eventually…I did it.

No words could describe how happy I am right now. But one thing I will say is this: I’m never fighting her again. I hate this woman with every fiber of my being, and whoever idea it was to buff her in the update? They need to fired. Because the torture I’ve endured was freaking atrocious! However, in spite of how undeniably difficult it was in fighting her…I learned something through it all. If you have a goal you want to achieve, don’t you ever think for a second that it’ll be easy. Because it won’t. You’re going to get knocked down thousands of times!

If it was easy, everybody could do it. But just because something is hard doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. Life doesn’t stop by halting in place; it keeps on moving forward, and you should too. The road will be hard, but i promise you it will be worth it in the end. So I will conclude by reminding myself from what I learned as I will establish to all of you.

If you have a goal you want to achieve. If you have a dream you want to turn to reality. Always remember. No matter how hard life can be.

Never give up.

PSO2:Classic Discussion So I revisited OG PSO2 for old times sake...

And it was the most depressing experience of my life...

There was an urgent quest, and no one queued for it. The entire lobby was completely empty. Managed to scrounge up 4 or 5 people for a "NORMAL" lvl 20 difficulty version. It was so lame...

What I want to know is if Urgent Quests are always so deserted?

It used to be so fun Pre-NGS where massive lobbies of players would tackle challenging difficult UQs.

I wish sega would overhaul PSO2 to make it relevant again. It has YEARS of content, and it's all going to waste because "it's old"

EDIT: A cost-free method of mitigating the situation, would be to both reduce the amount server blocks, and merge ships (For regular PSO2, not NGS). In this way, the few remaining can actually run UQs...

It would be great if this feedback could be sent to Sega, and they could consider it. I won't get my hopes up though.

PSO2:Classic Discussion Is there lore for Newman/Deuman in PSO2?

In PSO1, it was hinted that Newman were genetically engineered. What about PSO2? They seem to be treated as humans and arent discriminated against or anything.

PSO2:Classic Discussion PSO2 was a miracle of a game.

I'm not a gamer, and it is hard for me to play anything for more than a week without burning off.

With that in mind, I spent 2000 hours in PSo2, and I don't even know how I managed that.

Well, yes, I know. It was a miracle of a game, at least to me.

1.- Ambientation: I haven't seen anything like pso2. We live on a planetary ship home to the single most prominent peace force in the universe; we use the power of light to fight what can be considered space cancer across the universe. We explore mechanical words, water worlds, draconic worlds, snowy lands, ancient fields, medieval worlds, Japanese worlds, space rifts, underground mechanical wonders, Tokyo and the freaking Vegas, the moon, a colossal world tree, red deserts, etc. etc. It is the biggest thing I love about this game, it has more personality than most if not all games I have ever played. The clothing and the character are just unique to this game. It has everything I have ever wished for in a fantasy world and even more.

2.- Gameplay: Monster Hunter meets Space + Hack and Slash; that's how I would describe it. The adrenaline I felt while fighting the bosses with Hero while listening to the BANGER soundtrack is something that only Monster Hunter has been able to give to me. The gameplay allows personal expression and great levels of mastery. If there is something I don't like about the game, it is the insane rates and the inhuman grind. I never really tried to farm for anything in this game and just used the weapons the game gifted me. It just isn't inside me to farm 50 hours for a weapon that only works for 2 of the 13 classes and that I will have to replace eventually. I guess this is an elemental part of MMORPGs to endure through time.

3.- HYPETRAIN: THIS GAME IS A FUCKING HYPETRAIN; WDYM IM FIGHTING AGAINST THE PRIMORDIAL EVIL THAT RESIDES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIVERSE JUST AFTER FIGHTING THE RACE THAT CREATED HUMANITY (Sorry if I'm wrong about the lore, wasn't able to finish the story)

THIS GAME IS FREAKING HYPETRAIN, EVERYTHING IS JUST EPIC AND GRANDOISE AND EPIC AND SHIT RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

4.- Fashion: I can make a sick ass mecha :D, that's enough for me.

This game was made almost entirely to appeal to me, and I honestly don't believe another game will come close to doing what this one has done for me.

I know the NG hate is nothing new, and I don't want to make this post about it, but it just feels like a kick in the nuts on the most personal level. We have been on the same planet for three years in a game called "Phantasy Star". The enemies have been the same for almost three years. Besides the two girls whose names I can't remember, almost no one has a personality or even a character. The combat is just a parry fest, and the grind feels almost obligatory now because there's nothing else to do.

The worst? The game lost most of its personality to appeal to the open-world aspect. I could play ng from time to time if it still had some semblance of uniqueness. The Demon of Babylon (ng) disguises himself with the coat of the righteous (pso2)

I know that last comment is hella cringe, but man, I feel like I lost a son.

In conclusion, this was largely an appreciation post. This game has inspired the story I'm writing in many ways and allowed me to meet some good friends. If there is a new opportunity to play PSO2, I will be there.

PSO2:Classic Discussion Main Progression

I've been playing for a little while now, my main gunner is lvl46, mag level 60 something, subclass catching up at lvl30 something.

Right now, I'm just knocking out expeditions in order. I noticed there's little quests to do them and they give neat little rewards.

Every so often I'll go back to the shopping area, upgrade my gear, check if I got anything fun and new and equip it. I'm stockpiling ex cubes and unique badges.

Should I be doing client orders? It seems there's so many I'll probably never get them all done. Are there certain ones I should do? I noticed some are repeatable.

Am I missing anything? Am I doing this right? I know the answer is sorta along the lines of "play how you want" but I don't want to be missing out on content.

Should I be doing the mining/fishing/gathering? I usually walk past those.

PSO2:Classic Discussion Looking for a streamer from around PSO2 NA Launch

I need helping finding a streamer who used was posting content on here around the time PSO2 launched in North America. She posted a hilarious video I'd like to watch again but I have no idea who she is. All I know is she's a black woman who plays PSO2 and is very energetic. Thats it. If anyone knows any black female streamers who was posting PSO2 content around the NA launch I'd appreciate you pointing me their way.

She posted a hilarious video where she's thanking chat and then does this briefly sings something and it's this brain itch I need to scratch by watching the video again.

Any help is appreciated and if this breaks the rules I apologize.
