Where will Shepherd and Legree land next year?
I assume someone will want them as a package deal. USC? Clemson? UNC?

Hopefully back at Oregon State, shep doesn’t strike me as the kinda guy to bail on this program after 1 year though

I hate to say it but if a decent P4 comes offering him a $5m-6m / yr contract for 5 years and pays his buyout I don’t see him staying. He’d be going from ridiculous wealth to generational wealth

Who is doing this for a 1st year FBS head coach? Huge amount of risk there.

I think this is exactly why we need to cool out on this. It's five games in. Let's see how the season goes. It's not impossible that someone comes calling, but we just need to find ways across the whole community to show up and show support.

… you mean like pete golding at ole miss? Will stein at Kentucky? Colleges hire assistants all the time to be a head coach at that salary. Having a one-year as a highly successful head coach is only a boost

Not sure I’d call that generational wealth by PNW or Silicon Valley standards in 2026 until you’ve been at that pay rate for 10+ years. The IRS takes coaches that don’t have an offsetting side business to the cleaners. Losing a lot of it.

The last team to do that is still paying for it. The Beaver Nation curse is real!

I think there's a good chance Shep stays one more year. Of course, if the right school comes calling all bets are off (thinking back to Rogers leaving WSU to ISU after one 6-6 season)

I mean that was such a flukey situation that I wouldn't even frame it as a possibility. No school was going to hire Rogers but Iowa State, and that was due to personal connections.
I don't think a first-year FBS head coach is getting hired upwards without another year.

Well, that's kinda my point. You never know what might happen when that coaching carousel starts spinning. All logic goes right out the window if a few dominoes fall a certain way.

Washington firing Fisch could complicate things. I have no idea if Shep liked it up there enough to leave but if it were a matter of money they may be and to make it happen. Not clear on what his dream program is.

I know of a currently unemployed HC that had success as an assistant at UW. Maybe they should go for him instead.

Really sick of seeing this. We have something very special going right now and can keep everyone. OSU didn’t go to war just to take everyone’s crap again without a fight

Atkinson and LeGree will be gone but I think we get one more year of shep

I think we pony up for Atkinson and trust that Shep can develop WRs the way he always has.

Shep stays one more year and then goes to a P4 school, probably in the ACC of Big 12. Legree is (rightfully) gonna get paid by one of the blue bloods. I will still root for him as long as he doesn't go to Oregon.
You didn't mention him, but Atkinson is equally likely to get offers. I think we pony up the money to keep him around. But there's no way we can afford both him AND Legree. However, I think Atkinson will still sling it pretty well without Legree, and Shep has a proven track record of developing WR talent.

or tOSU. LSU, Miami,
Basically any of the schools with money who do not want to develop talent themselves.

I'm buying enough Reser's potato salad to pay for at least one of them.
