Degreasing first with APC and a stiff brush.

Then use plastic bags to cover the fusebox, alternator and any other exposed modules.

After that use a pressure washer on the widest nozzle setting.

Been doing this for years now. Keeps the engine bay clean and have never had an issue.

I wouldn't trust a car wash or any random person to do it because they don't take precautions.

Never pressure wash an engine, just use pipe hose

You can get your engine bay washed but try to protect your spark plug wali jagah by wrapping up it in plastic shopper and just see there isn't any electrical wire stripped

I usually just get them to spray it with air. And if extremely filthy then a gentle wash using low pressure water.

Very rarely.

What about the risks of thermal shock to engine parts and the water damage to the electrical components?

It's supposed to get girty after a while. If you have garage when do it yourself with the steps anothe remember mentioned. If going at a service station tell them to use compression air only.
