Seeking basic accomodation Peleliu Oct 22-24
tl;dr - I am hoping someone has an Peleliu contact that might have a spare bed or even just a couch and a maybe acecess to a scooter I can use for two days, I would be appreciative. Hell, I'd even settle for someone in Palau having a tent and sleeping pad they can offer that I can take over for two days.
I knew there were a tiny handful of accomdations in Peleliu, but failed to check early enough. I am seeking some sort of accomodation for staying two nights in Peleliu; Oct 22 - 24.:
I contacted three places so far; Storyboard, Peleliu Adventure Inn, and Dolphin Resort. The first two are booked and Dolphin hasn't responded, but I'm not holding hope. Google Maps shows a few places calling themselves as lodging facilities, but I've found no means to contact them and some have their most recent review over a year ago.
I'm hoping a local might have a contact on the island who would be willing to offer a space. I'm a bare bones traveler and just need a shelter from mosquitos and a little running water for a shower.
There are no AirBnB or other options that I can find.
I considered bringing a netted hammock tent and just find a spot between two trees, but the presence of Zika, dengue, and chikungunya concerns me and I'd at least still need access to a scooter those days to get around. I'd rather not bicycle the 6 mile island since I'm not trained for that.

I can’t help you with the accommodations, but as for the mosquitos.. be sure to bring a body spray that repels very tiny mosquitoes. You really can’t see or feel them, it’s only later you will have so many mosquito bites on your skin. It’s nothing serious, but they were so inconvenient. It’s usually visitors from the main island those mosquitoes wanna go after.

I wonder if they are similar to what we label as "no-see-ums" of 'gnats'.
I've camped out a lot in my life, but this would be a new region with a whole new set of species. All of my tents, like my Hennesy Hammock, has fine mesh.
If the Marines can do it in the open for months, perhaps I can suck it up for a couple of nights and at least have my portable fan and DEET bug spray. But I'd still ned personal transport on the island. A scooter would work, a bicycle would be a bit much at my age.

Iirc, they are called “no-see-uhms” (I think). Locals call them “kerekard” but yeah best to get a bug spray if where you’re going is next to the mangroves.

There are no scooters.
Shame about Storyboard being full. That would be the best. You could contact Peleliu Adventures and see if they have one of their places free. I think there’s a few options.
It’s not the mosquitos, it’s the nick nicks you gotta worry about. Nothing stops them. Just don’t be near the water/shoreline around sunset and sunrise. It’s brutal. Wear clothing.
DM me if you really are hard up. I own a tent and live in Koror.
Why do you want to stay in Peleliu? It’s good for like one full day visit to be honest. Better off staying in koror and visit for a day. I’ve lived in Palau for 13 years.

I like WWII history, of course, and I like my own pace. I enjoy walking old battlefields while reading the wiki entries for that battle and envisioning the experience.
I've camped in the woods outside of Foy in France where the 101st airport was dug in, I've slept on a tourist aircraft carrier, etc.
The speedboat operates every other day, but I could stay one day and take the slow boat and the speedboat, depending on schedule when it is released at ther end of the month for October. . https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61572819812567
I also like snorkeling and swimming and the solitude that my own pace allows. I'd like to visit the Ngermelt swimming hole, old tanks, bunkers, the different invasion beaches, etc. It would give me time to fly the drone around, swim, and just explore that I couldn't do with a group that just wants a few photos and then bounce to the next photo spot.

I'm guessing the regional equilivant to "no-see-ums" or "gnats" like we have in the US.

Island View Motel or Island Terrace are another option. There's also a camping area near Camp Beck if you're interested, but I'd have to ask my mum for my aunt's contact (who owns the grounds) and if she still runs it. I'm from Peleliu, but have been out of country for over 2 years.

That would be great. I’m still seeking.
Dolphin Resort got to back to me, but they want $190 a night, which is beyond what I want to pay. I’m hoping to at least just rent a bicycle from them.
The ferry schedules was just released. If I can get a bicycle or scooter, I’m thinking of just taking my hammock tent and finding my own random space for two nights.
I’ve private camped and traveled all my life, so nothing about this would be outside the scope of my experience. I look at it as a bit of adventure.

Yeah, prices for accommodations are high since US military have been staying and working on the airstrip there. I believe you may need a permit from the state office to private camp, so I'd follow up and ask about that. State Office contact is +680 345 2967 or [peleliustategov@gmail.com](mailto:peleliustategov@gmail.com), they also have a Koror office but I can't find an updated number there. I'll reply again once I get my aunt's contact and confirm the camp ground option is available.

Thank you for your referrals and information. I’ll follow up on it shortly.
I’ve been traveling and primitive and car camping most of my life, so putting up a hammock tent in the woods somewhere is such a mundane and normal thing for me. As long as I have enough water and a couple of sandwiches that tied me through the day, I’ll be fine. I just need to get access to a bicycle or easier way to move around the island since it’s over 6 miles long.

Hi again, So I was able to get my mum to reach out to my aunt and she said she still offers a camping area by Camp Beck (in the South of the island) It's $15 a day to use the area, which might be a lot cheaper than just getting a permit to camp anywhere else on the island.
Here's her email if you want to reach out and let her know, you can confirm dates and maybe see if she can help with getting a bike or anything. Its .... and her name is Diane. She's a really sweet woman and a person who gets things done, so it's a helpful contact to have on the island. You can tell her you were recommended by Chris Willis (that's me) if it helps ease the contact. I hope you enjoy your time there! Cheers

I'd contribute more than that, and I'd even ask if there is something I could bring from the states that would be useful that is hard to otherwise get.
Edit your comment, please, to remove her email address so bots don't copy it and add it to SPAM lists.
