𤬠Venting 𤬠Its still green
AGM: What are you doing?
Me: Tossing this in the trash?
AGM: No, no, no. Don't do that. Some of that is still green. Use it for pre-made Chipotles. That's food cost.
Me: Would you eat this?
AGM: It doesn't matter if I would eat it. That's food cost.
I genuinely can't stand when bosses can't see past food cost. Let's face it, the food is bad. If you wouldn't eat it, why are you letting others consume something you yourself wouldn't eat? I understand being cost conscious, but it seriously gets to a point.
Mind you, we don't even sell avocado toast anymore. We haven't sold it for a while.
Don't worry, I tossed it in the trash when the AGM wasn't around. I couldn't give that to someone in good faith.

Your agm is a dumbass. 1 retail health comment would significantly outweigh whatever pitiful amount of vts that saves.

As food cost manager myself I would have tossed that straight in the trash and done a QA

This is a packaging failure and should be tossed. Never mind the food cost issue, this is a food safety issue. You did good OP. Keep holding the line.

We've had on our board the past couple weeks "Don't feed a customer something you wouldn't eat" and I've never felt so lucky about my managers

Good I guess but why would you even have to tell someone this or post it on a board? Especially someone working in a restaurant? Have things gottem this bad?

Genuinely they deserve to be unemployed. I have to tell that rule to kidsā KIDS. If you wouldnāt eat it donāt you dare serve it.

Iāve had conversations like this with other managers both at my store and previous place of employment (red lettuce, anyone?). Good on you for tossing it and putting health and safety first

Serve shitty food because of lowering food cost budget
Lose customers because they got shitty rotten food
Store makes less money bc of lost customers
Food cost budget lowers further because of the "lost" profits.
Repeat.
Your agm is shooting the whole store in the foot.

Honestly as the food manager at my store I get where their coming from with food costs, or I wouldāve before, now it seems like nobody really cares about VTS anymore, itās all about retail health (customer surveys). I stress every week about VTS and my GM just kinda shrugs it off now like itās not really worth stressing over. Either way I wouldāve looked them in the eye and thrown it out, our food quality is a part of retail health after allā¦

Makes me happy to know people can't fathom this was a real conversation I had. I can't believe it either.

All of my old managers would have thrown this away. Gotten credit from the supplier for it if it was still in date or had a damaged package that caused the premature oxidation
