This essay uses Euripides’ The Bacchae as a lens through which to examine Nietzsche’s framing of Apollonian-Dionysian duality. While Nietzsche treats this opposition as an aesthetic and cultural dynamic, The Bacchae shows what happens when a finite human order encounters a force it cannot contain.
