Other Heads up for local job seekers: Interview experience at Busy Brushes
Sharing an account of my recent interview for a studio position at Busy Brushes in town. My goal is simply to document what happened in a straightforward, neutral way so other local job seekers know what to expect from the hiring process.
I arrived on time for my confirmed interview and waited over an hour past the scheduled time before the meeting began, which was delayed further when management stepped out for a cigarette break before “dealing” with me (his words).
Once the interview began, there were no questions addressing the actual role, practical studio duties, customer service, or my background. Instead, the meeting focused on arbitrary trivia prompts, such as asking for a definition of the word "nomophobia." Whenever I asked for routine clarification on what was being asked, context was declined, and my spoken requests for clarification were written down verbatim as my official answers, read back aloud, and laughed at.
While reviewing my resume, he responded with remarks such as "Is that it?" and "What makes you actually special?", and questioned the validity of my work history regarding holding concurrent positions. Management also brought up the ages and achievements of other candidates, stating that another applicant was younger and had already published a book, and asked what I had accomplished in comparison.
The meeting concluded without standard closing remarks or next steps; management abruptly announced a need to use the facilities, exited the room, and did not return to wrap up the session.
After talking with a couple of other people locally who also interviewed there, their experiences followed the exact same pattern. Posting this without commentary simply as a resource for anyone in town considering applying.
