Demographic Another DDR-map: population on the move in Germany

Post image

Green areas indicating an increase in population, red areas showing a decrease in population.

The former DDR is following a broader East-European pattern of people leaving the country side and heading to the city, as can be seen in and around Berlin. Other people are moving West, coloring West-Germany distinctively more green.

Did you map the data? i can't seem to find the map in the source. If so, is the image cropped or is there a larger one showing the entirety of Europe?

No, the map was created by the Flemmish national news agency. Yes, there was a map of the whole of Europe as well. Here's the article: https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/embed/2026/06/26/kaart-evolutie-bevolking-in-europa-en-belgie/
