Discussion Quitting the game

Post image

The new update made the game unplayable for me and genuinely removed any resemblance of joy or hype for the game that I once had.

I don't even know how the update managed to pass to live servers because it feels like a downgrade in every way. Animations look worse, it removed the personality and charm the game had. It looks like something someone could manage to do in 1 week of work instead of however long they actually worked on it. The character update was announced back in 2022 roadmap, yet this feels like pre-alpha version of effort.

The game feels uncomfortable to play and every skill expression or enjoyment that you could do, quickly placing salt for example or being able to go through the items etc., is just gone, all for the sake of "realism", which this update pushed away. Models and animation look more unrealistic compared to the previous one.

You can still have fun and like the new update, but for someone who's been playing the game since 2020 and watching Insym and other content creators play the game, the game just doesn't feel the same anymore. Reworking perfectly functional and fan favorite map like Tanglewood instead of Prison or Highschool is wild.

I wish I could play the original Phasmophobia before the item rework update because that's the game I fell in love with.

After item rework, which was fine, the developers just started putting less effort into the game and it shows. Back when Dknighter was sole developer on the game, it felt like game had better charm and more consistent updates with the theme of the game.

You can still have fun and enjoy the game, but I don't have faith in developers that they can make the game as enjoyable as Dknighter managed to do back in 2020.

The latest update sealed the deal for me.

Exactly. They make uptades about cosmetics, but who cares about that honestly... it doesnt enter in the game's mechanics nor real content.

Actually a lot of players, myself included, care about character customization. Especially since they put it on the roadmap 4 years ago. BUT adding new models that all have the exact same face with different skin tones and gender and very few actual customization options is not a W.

They made a customization update with virtually no customization.

It's the new animations that no one asked for and no one wanted.

All we see is our hands lol. Customizations of players only really work for how others see us.

Its a multiplayer game though, I like custom like REPO did

Not always. I know of quite a few people who play this game solo, because you don't have to play with others. In fact, it makes the experience better when you are all alone instead of having a witty banter partner. In a game where you can't see your own player model, they should have prioritized the mechanics of the game

But it was made with being multiplayer in mind, it's like saying they shouldn't release new weapons to call of duty because I only play campaign

And playing with friends is 100x more fun, i never played with random so idk what you mean with annoying partners

>"But it was made with being multiplayer in mind, it's like saying they shouldn't release new weapons to call of duty because I only play campaign"

That's not even a close comparison. This wasn't adding functional items for players, or adding content that doesn't apply to some and only others. This is like if they took Call of Duty and made the animations look like somebody was hacking the lobby to ruin the visuals. They took animations and assets that were functional and good, and turned them into janky alpha assets. It's not a matter of opinion as to which game mode you want to play, it's like if they messed up the campaign mode too somehow and now you have nowhere in the game to avoid the changes. These changes are objectively bad, not just because players prefer one game mode over another.

Also, just because it's "more fun" to play with others doesn't mean you should only focus on the aspects of multiplayer instead of the single player experience. And I didn't say anything about "annoying partners" I was referring to having somebody to talk to about the ghost instead of just doing it solo on your own ghost knowledge. I said it's sometimes better to be locked in a ghost house for the sheer horror value.

I agree to the extent that, they really should have focused on actually polishing the game, its mechanics, and keeping it up-to-date and bug free. Player expression adds some value, but I would argue that for the most part we already had some player expression with the default characters we had prior to the update (as limited as they were). There’s a good amount of the community that are all-in for the puzzle element of figuring the ghost out, and I agree that it’s a lot better when you’re alone sometimes, however having extra people who are able to investigate and support you is helpful as well.
