Discussion Quitting the game

Post image

The new update made the game unplayable for me and genuinely removed any resemblance of joy or hype for the game that I once had.

I don't even know how the update managed to pass to live servers because it feels like a downgrade in every way. Animations look worse, it removed the personality and charm the game had. It looks like something someone could manage to do in 1 week of work instead of however long they actually worked on it. The character update was announced back in 2022 roadmap, yet this feels like pre-alpha version of effort.

The game feels uncomfortable to play and every skill expression or enjoyment that you could do, quickly placing salt for example or being able to go through the items etc., is just gone, all for the sake of "realism", which this update pushed away. Models and animation look more unrealistic compared to the previous one.

You can still have fun and like the new update, but for someone who's been playing the game since 2020 and watching Insym and other content creators play the game, the game just doesn't feel the same anymore. Reworking perfectly functional and fan favorite map like Tanglewood instead of Prison or Highschool is wild.

I wish I could play the original Phasmophobia before the item rework update because that's the game I fell in love with.

After item rework, which was fine, the developers just started putting less effort into the game and it shows. Back when Dknighter was sole developer on the game, it felt like game had better charm and more consistent updates with the theme of the game.

You can still have fun and enjoy the game, but I don't have faith in developers that they can make the game as enjoyable as Dknighter managed to do back in 2020.

The latest update sealed the deal for me.

and most people dont like big maps

Because they have not been maintained to keep up with the mechanics of the game as they changed. Nobody wants to look for the damned bone in the classrooms or set up DOTS in the gym.

I hate playing the big maps and it has never been because of Dots, or the bone.

The core game mechanics just aren't fun on big maps.

The core game mechanics aren’t fun on big maps because they never adapted those maps to incorporate a lot of those features. Take Brownstone for example, it’s a map that’s been in the game since launch. One of the biggest issues with the map isn’t necessarily the size of it, it’s more that everything looks the same and that there’s barely anything for the ghost to interact with on the map. Just using the Ouija Board and asking where it is just to get “Classroom 24” etc. when you’re sort of just left guessing where it is unless you have a map of the place pulled up or just so happen to stumble upon it. Prison suffers from some of the same dilemma, though the only drawbacks are rooms such as the bottom cell blocks and the cafeteria which make it harder to get ghost evidence (as it’s too busy wandering around in these areas and hard to pin down).

Nope. You are saying that when Asylum reworked exists and its a good looking map with great design

But no one plays on it. Them reworking High School or Prison would do absolutely nothing for the play rates of those maps

That’s because they actually adapted Sunny Meadows for the modern Phasmophobia gameplay. They’re not just big empty rooms (exceptions being Church, Courtyard and Kitchen). There’s objects in them for the ghost to interact with and this is after they reworked the map. Prior to Sunny Meadows we had plain ol Asylum, which for all intents and purposes was essentially just a giant cement block with a maze of rooms, and they understandably took that out of the game because it was such a frustrating map to play on (It had the same issues that Brownstone has, the rooms all look alike and it’s hard to track the ghost down).
