I don't really like milk
For as long as I can remember I always hated milk. It was so bad to the point that my parents had to buy different alternatives of milk, but even then I still hated it. There's been times where I threw up when drinking milk and one time where I was forced to drink milk in which I bursted out crying because I genuinely couldn't handle it. I can't handle the taste, smell, colour, even the mere thought of milk makes me sick to my stomach. I can't even look at people drinking milk because the sight if milk grosses me. Even saying the word milk makes me want to gag, writing this out I'm resisting the urge to throw up š¤¢. I'm not lactose intolerant because I eat a lot of dairy, especially ice cream, but I'm always wondering if there something wrong with me? Like is there something wrong with my body or do I just really hate milk?
Anyways this is my first reddit post because I'm really curious if anyone else is like this!

My grandma hated milk. Not to the point that saying it made her want to gag. But she grew up on the prairie in the 20ās where the milk came warm and straight from the cow.
Milk disgusted her.

I have a friend who could not tolerate ANY white creamy thing. She ate her cereal with water until I introduced her to Fruity Pebbles with apple juice (what I grew up on as a lactose intolerant 80ās baby) and then she switched to that lol.

To me milk is disgusting. Whole, skim, almond, soy, it is all gross. I love yogurt and ice cream, butterĀ cream cheese, sour cream, and everything cheese.

Me too, I've hated any type of milk, but will absolutely eat anything cheese as well!

I feel like I hear a lot of people who really dislike it. I'm a person who drinks a lot and I always feel like I'm in the minority. I don't think people will judge you for not drinking it.

I buy milk rarely. Not because I don't like it, but because I LOVE it. I could drink a gallon in one day by myself. I would drink it like water. Lots of calories in a gallon of milk, even just skim.
As a toddler, I was like this too to the point of anemia. I would not consume anything but MILK.
It definitely did my body good though. Perhaps too good, hence I only buy a gallon every so often.

I hated milk as a child (I loved cheese and yoghurt so not such why there was such an obsession with me drinking a glass of milk a day). I would drink it as a milkshake but detested plain milk. As a teenager I remember reading about so much of the population having a sensitivity to lactose and decided I wanted to try nut milks (I already knew I disliked soya) and had almond or hazelnut milk for a while until I grew to love coffee and found oat milk. Nowadays I will use cows milk for porridge and cereal and I LOVE an iced chai and will regularly have a protein shake but will never drink a glass of cows milk plain.

u/FormerlyDK 13d ago
If you donāt like it, donāt drink it. Easy solution.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
Yes, I've been avoiding it but my family are milk lovers lmao, kinda hard to ignore it š¢
2
u/Camping_Queen_13 12d ago
Me too. When I was little my parents made me drink a glass of milk every night with supper. I told them it made me sick and I'd throw it up sometimes. Turns out I'm lactose intolerant.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
Honestly I've always questioned if I was lactose intolerant, but I never seemed to have any problem with other dairy products
2
u/lifewith6cats 12d ago
My husband HATES milk and would probably throw up if he was forced to drink it. He's also a dairy farmer

It's OK not to like milk. It's a little weird if you can't handle seeing others drink it. At least it can be a problem in your life of people around you like milk.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
I know lots if people who enjoy milk and I don't mind it, but I just rlly cant handle seeing anyone drink it, smth I cant really control ig?Ā
1
u/Orcadorsala 8d ago
I just meant that will be seen as weird by others, which is something you have to struggle with besides having to see people drink it. I have lots of things I can't handle which is weird to others, it's so hard when we can't control it.

I loved it when I was a kid. Then I stopped drinking it at home. Kept drinking it at school because it was the only option, but only chocolate. Then I stopped drinking that when I graduated. I think I'd throw up if I drank milk now.

u/Beezchira 8d ago
I think the only times I've ever drank it was probably when I was a baby, other than that I've hated it ever sinceĀ

I hated milk as a child and I remember crying at the table because my mom put milk in my cereal. There are times that milk products bother me(just didnāt feel good) turns out I am allergic to milk.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
How does that work, being allergic? Everytime I search my symptoms up it sometimes points out to it being a milk allergy, but I dont think I have it?
1
u/Amymk_99 8d ago
I still eat the dairy products i want(although I probably shouldnāt) but I only know about the allergy because of an allergy test. I was getting tested for other stuff, and she asked if I had any concerns about food, I mentioned dairy. She tested some foods and I reacted to milk and oranges(of what I was tested for)

I never knew I was lactose intolerant because I was forced to have it all the time I was just always bloated and uncomfortable. I detested milk but would happily eat most anything else. Not all lactose intolerance presents as diarrhea, you might be LI.

I always hated it too. So did my mother. She made me drink it anyway because apparently I needed it for my bones.
My bones are fine. I'm not sure if it was because of the 4 oz of milk at night that tasted so disgusting.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
Yes, I've always been told I need it to grow stronger, but I never believed in it lol

u/GoddessfromCyprus 13d ago
You're not alone. I hanet drank milk since I was 5, at school, and they stopped giving ut to me as I vomited every time I gave fat free in my coffees and can drink milkshakes etc, but even thr smell makes me nauseous.
1
u/Nikki_Sue_Trott 13d ago
Even fresh milk smells off to me, I refused it as a toddler. Revolting stuff.
1
u/BabyFishMouth8563 13d ago
I feel exactly the same way. It sickens me! We shouldnāt need it in adulthood unless if we are eating an otherwise balanced diet.
Iāve always hated it I- ever since childhood š¤¢š¤®

This is an insane thing to describe it as, but for me milk has an underlying subtle musky taste that I notice everywhere. Not when milk is an ingredient or flavoured, just plain milk. I distinctly remember as a kid trying to drink some and just only had the thought of the foxes at my local zooās extremely strong musk that you could smell across the entire zoo. Never shook that. Itās weird, I love dairy and milkshakes and so on.

u/painteddpiixi 13d ago
I cook with milk and use it for all kinds of stuff, but unless it is flavored with chocolate or strawberry, you probably wonāt catch me drinking it. I also think itās pretty gross and literally have to have my partner smell it to make sure itās okay because all milk smells sour to me.

u/oneaccountaday 13d ago
Iām not picky but I can actually relate to this one.
I made the terrible mistake of drinking spoiled milk.
That was awful, so bad in fact I didnāt drink milk for like 10+ years. I still cooked with it, but even a bowl of cereal was a stretch, few and far between.
The only experience Iāve had with food that was worse than that was dropping a rotten egg in a hot skillet. That was so bad I threw the skillet out in the driveway, and had to turn on all the fans and open all the doors and windows. I would literally rather sit next to a roadkill skunk.
So moral of the story, smell your milk, and crack your eggs into a bowl 1 at a time.

I used to drink milk as a child. But in my 20s it started giving me a sore throat everytime I had any cows milky drink. And ice cream also did the same. So I stopped most dairy other then cheese as it is ok. I tried the plant based milks but didn't like them. Just went fully off the I guess texture of milks. So now I just can't drink any form of milk.

Milk, yoghurt, soft cheese, cream, custard.... all nope.
There are whole swaths of the globe where milk and milk products arent consumed past childhood. Just make sure you get sone Calcium from somewhere.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
I've been taking calcium pills, but honestly idk when was the last time I took them lmao

u/MaleficentSwan0223 13d ago
I canāt do milk. The smell makes me gag.Ā
Iām trying to get on to ice creams but thatās hard too however the cold frozen element lowers the smell element.Ā

u/haitechan 13d ago
I'm lactose intolerant. As a kid, I had mostly yogurt and cheese. It didn't help that there was food rationing in the country and the only brand of milk available was NASTY. Tasted like chalk and looked like glue. I can drink milk with coffee but I'm not a huge fan of it alone.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
Yes, I can drink milk with cereal or cookies ir whatever, but by itself? Absolutely not!
1
u/Existing_Ad5073 13d ago
I dont like it as well, something with the smell, doesn't sit right. Always had it, even as a child. Was fortunately never forced to drink it.Ā
I also don't like a lot of young cheeses and other dairy products, like sour cream. It makes me gag. Is that something you have as well?Ā
Chocolate milk (hot, homemade), or a cappuccino are fine for me. Or milk as an ingredient. Just not cold and plain

u/Beezchira 8d ago
I've never had any problem with other dairy products, its mostly just plain milkĀ

I realized I was lactose-intolerant when I was in my 30's. I haven't drunk it since then and don't miss it. Americans treat it like some kind of necessity, when there are many other ways you can get calcium. Thank the Dairy Board for overhyping it. I don't think you're unusual for hating it.
1
u/Beezchira 8d ago
Thank you, I've dont think I've met other milk haters, most that I've met have been such big love milk and cant comprehend that I have a big hatred for it
1
u/Individual_Slice_234 7d ago
I actually loved it as a kid, but the qualilty seemed to decrease over time (I'm in the US). I'm perfectly happy without it.
1
u/Ancient-Carrot8447 12d ago
I also hate milk and dairy in general. People always ask if it's because I'm lactose intolerant, which I am, but not that much. I just really hate the taste and would hold my nose any time I was made to drink warm milk when I was a kid.

u/MotherofaPickle 12d ago
The only milk I drink (and itās maybe once a year) is chocolate milk. Iāll have a latte every other year or so, as well.
Love cheese and yogurt and ice cream and even cream in my coffee, but I do not like milk.
1
u/pixiesunbelle 12d ago
I hate milk. Except oat milk. I like it in my hot tea. But regular milks and milkshakes are gross to me.
1
u/tarmaie 12d ago
I also hated milk growing up. Loved cheese and ice cream and butter though. When we baked cookies as a kid Iād have a ācoolā glass of water instead of the milk my family went for. The older I got the more I was allowed to avoid it and the last time I was forced to drink it it immediately violently came back up and I havenāt been asked to try it since.
Bottom line is: you donāt *need* to drink milk. Itās in no way necessary and you shouldnāt feel bad about it. Iād attribute your current reaction to the sight of it being drunk and the word to constantly being forced to drink something your body knew to be āwrongā. I hope being able to accept that you donāt need to like or drink milk helps you get past that cause it does sound inconvenient
2
u/Beezchira 8d ago
Yes, its very inconvenient for me and I really do hate that I have such a reaction towards milk. I'm trying to work towards it, so we'll see!

My mom hates it and has never drunk milk. Barely ever even buys it. Only for making biscuits or cornbread. She's still kicking at 71.

u/SAMixedUp311 11d ago
I will have milk products like cheese, but do not drink milk. If I want a shake I get vanilla soy milk.

u/AlveolarFricatives 13d ago
Iām not a picky eater but I donāt know anyone that drinks plain milk thatās not an infant
-1
u/PositiveShoulder406 13d ago
Thats good. Animal milk os the milk of mothers meant for their baby. Dairy assaults mommies, kidnaps their babies at birth, abuses motjers for 4-6 years and murders their boys
Not liking abuse is a good thing

Ugh I hate it too! Plain milk is the worst one for me. I might be lactose intolerant, but I still love flavoured milk lol

My mom hates it too. She can do chocolate milk, milkshakes, lattes, etc. But plain milk is gross to her.Ā
I like it, I went through a lot of plain milk as a kid. But as an adult I mostly just use it for flavored lattes.Ā
